Firstly I see this was back in November so I apologise if there has been a post already, did have a quick look and couldn't see anything!

This picture appeared on my Facebook timeline. Is it an actual thing? I feel like there's so much wrong with these statistics, like they're only telling half the story.

International Men's Day?

That's not quite the same is it? Seems to me he didn't want fem soc to help him at all

I think that is a little unfair- if he had, he would no doubt be accused of diverting resources.

I wonder if the problem was the society's proposed name? Durham University Male Human Rights Society.

If he had called it something like "Men's Wellbeing" "Men's Support " or something similar more obviously connected to emotional well-being rather than "rights". It needs a masculine version of "Well Woman"

A lot of people on this thread don't seem to understand what the term victim blaming means.

Yup. Saying it is men who commit violence against other men is not victim blaming. Victim blaming is saying the men on the recieving end of that violence are to blame in some way. Acknowledging that the issue here is male violence is not victim blaming.

“I wonder if the problem was the society's proposed name? Durham University Male Human Rights Society.”

Grin. Yep. That sounds exactly the perfect name for a society devoted to supporting men with emotional and mental health issues............

Yes- the name made me think he wasn't entirely in good faith.

If I were deciding on this I would have rejected it on that basis. If it had been presented with the sort of names I suggested I'd have allowed it.
