Don't worry this kind of thing never happens!

would all be safer if the real predators were dealt with and trans women have to deal with hostility in both bathrooms, using the one that matches their presentation is the least likely to get them assaulted and if they are assaulted in the ladies by another woman the likely injury's (in the UK at least) are going to be less severe.

Except they're male. So they should respect women's boundaries and ask for third spaces. Why don't they? Why don't you care?

Debbie6666 · 15/12/2017 14:53

In fact self ID would make any offence planned and easier proven if the rest of a persons life did not support that ID

Debbie6666 · 15/12/2017 14:55

Third spaces, separate but equal! worked so well in the USA

Ereshkigal · 15/12/2017 14:56

The proposed changes to the GRA, are a weakening of the protection the law currently has for women.

Yes, they are. And I don't think that answering "well you've already lost your rights so ner, there's nothing you can do" is particularly reassuring or helpful or likely to reduce tensions.

Ereshkigal · 15/12/2017 14:58

If you're alluding to racial segregation that's a dishonest comparison. Women are the oppressed class here, not men.

Typical TA, aren't you?

QuentinSummers · 15/12/2017 14:58

debbie what do you think about the end check? Why is it necessary to do background checks on people working with children if application of the law is a sufficient deterrent to sex offenders?

QuentinSummers · 15/12/2017 14:58

*dbs check

BatShite · 15/12/2017 15:09

Third spaces, separate but equal!
I don't understand the objection to this at all. Can you explain a little more? As male people are not female, and vice versa, so surely separate spaces are best all around? Transwomen get to feel safe, whilst women also remain safe.

Yes there is an element of 'othering' there. But males and females ARE different (hence segregation in the first place)

Unless you would wish to get rid of sex segregation altogether?

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 15/12/2017 15:09

What if it's not assault in the sense of grabbing a woman from behind and raping her?

What if it's wandering out of a stall with your cock out, making eye contact with women and smirking a bit 'Oops! Did I forget to zip up? Sorry!' Squeezing past you at the sink. Wanking noises from inside the stall - 'I was just having a shit officer!'

It's going to be all these things because predatory men find ways to stay on the right side of the law and harass women.

We know this. We just had a massive campaign in which women queued up to tell us about these sorts of behaviours. That's why we don't let people with dicks into the toilets.

Ereshkigal · 15/12/2017 15:14

"Accidentally" forgetting to lock the cubicle door properly.

SparklyUnicornTractors · 15/12/2017 15:15

Self ID is not a defence against criminal behaviour.

If you are seriously trying to say that no one could exploit this, and that the law already does all it needs to to protect women against criminal behaviour then either you're arguing for women to shut up and deal with being collateral damage or you're really scarily naiive.

Ereshkigal · 15/12/2017 15:15

YYYY. Join the fucking dots.

Ereshkigal · 15/12/2017 15:16

then either you're arguing for women to shut up and deal with being collateral damage or you're really scarily naiive.

I'd vote for the first. these people don't give a fuck about women.

Debbie6666 · 15/12/2017 15:21

Separate but equal was the claim, the third spaces were never equal though were they, false comparison to racial segregation or sounds exactly the same.

Anyway why only a third space, what about trans men or do all trans people have to share?

BatShite · 15/12/2017 15:23

Male, female and gender neutral. Makes sense to me. Can you explain what the issue would be with this?

Or, as I asked earlier, are you against sex segregation alltogether? Should we get rid of male/female and have unisex everything?

Debbie6666 · 15/12/2017 15:25

so the third space is already not equal, its a shared space.

Thought the claims were trans people were not the treat, so why segregate them.

BatShite · 15/12/2017 15:27

Are you against sex segregation fullstop?

SparklyUnicornTractors · 15/12/2017 15:27

Anyway why only a third space, what about trans men or do all trans people have to share?

Obviously that's up to different trans groups to decide and specify what to campaign for. The same way women identified their needs and then fought for women's spaces. I'll gladly help campaign.

BatShite · 15/12/2017 15:29

Thought the claims were trans people were not the treat, so why segregate them.

Also not suggesting segregating trans people. Suggesting segregating male and female. Makes no sense at all to want sex segregation, but say it is not segregated by sex. So therefor, the only position that makes sense (besides agreeing with sex segregation) is that you do not think sex segregation is needed and everything should be unisex.

Debbie6666 · 15/12/2017 15:33

how about the women forced out of their woman's spaces because other woman don't feel they meet the standard. Then there are the "passing" trans people who waltz in unchallenged.

Not against segregation as it is, but when you start singling out a minority and forcing them into other likely lesser facilities that's a different matter.

Feel free to challenge any non presenting as female male looking person in the ladies, its NOT a crime to.

Popchyk · 15/12/2017 15:33

If someone commits a crime they will be dealt with.

Well, yes, this man was dealt with by giving him a 12-month community order, 80 hours community service and a £170 costs.

So, still walking around. Still with the same medical condition that compels him to scratch his penis in a toddler play area.

So yes, 'dealt with'.

BatShite · 15/12/2017 15:34

Noone is singling out a minority. Male people are not a minority.

Debbie6666 · 15/12/2017 15:35

trans people are, they are being singled out into third spaces

BatShite · 15/12/2017 15:36

If they do not wish to use the areas for their sex, then a third space is the only solution that makes any sense. Besides doing away with sex segregation.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/12/2017 15:37

trans people are, they are being singled out into third spaces

No-one has said they can't use the spaces for their sex...
