She's taking a Twitter break for her mental health because of the level of abuse she's receiving. She's a teenage girl, FFS - and even if you think she's a teenage boy, in what world does a 19 year old deserve this amount of bullying?

I'm sick of all the "plopping" on trans threads, i.e. The posters like the op who come and call us all nasty bullies, but then do not actually stay and debate!

@dinosaursandtea why does Lily's alleged mental distress matter, but ours doesn't? Why are women told to suck it up and deal, but we all have to tiptoe around someone who has stood for public office?

I dare you, watch this video of Helen Steel talking about how male violence has affected her life, and then come back and tell me why Lily's feelings matter but women's don't. I dare you.

Yes, this. The tweets I've seen have been robustly critical rather than hateful or threatening.

You can't do shit-stirring of this magnitude and not expect a little criticism, IMO.

But the last I saw of it, Madigan was feeling "fabulous" again, so no harm done.

This tweet did make me laugh though (re Madigan comparing himself to Rosa Parks):

Ironically we'd all be willing to listen if there were actual answers and facts...

There's a bit of me thinking 'Oh, poor little sod' - but that's partly because I think Madigan is being used, quite ruthlessly; probably does have a few MH issues, and really isn't clever enough to cope with public office. Not many teenagers are (Mhairi Black is a wonderful exception, but people like her are really rare.)

But I also think, well, I've met a lot of student politicos who behave like this, over the years. Noisy, attention-seeking, self-righteous and very keen to go after anyone who puts even a slightly different point of view - but collapses into wailing if an opponent dares to push back. Lessons all student politicos need to learn include: don't dish it out and not expect to get some back.

Lily’s friends are saying to women, respectively, women you lose, and calling then bitches and cows, and all manner of disgusting things.

A rape survivor urged Lily to stop leaving kisses of the end of all his tweets as, women don’t do that in a professional capacity, lest they be accused of inciting harassment.

The poster was denied a voice due to being a bigoted terf. Lily said they don’t listen to bigots.

He went on to say he can’t wait to get hold of all that ‘pretty contact data’ of women’s emails and names and addresses, tomorrow, that he officially has access to as women’s officer. Because he now has ‘all the power’.

Lily said he was taking a break from Twitter because ‘I’m fabulous and need to continue being so’.

Lily is ill equipped and foolish. But a fool who has been sanctioned and promoted by adult men to represent women.

Lily is wholly accountable for his own actions, whilst he remains in his position.

If Lily can’t cope because he has occupied a position for which he is entirely unsuited, he needs to step down.

Do not give a misogynistic twit of a man power over women and then have the bloody nerve to complain when they object.

What can we realistically do about this twat? He isn't open to discussion at all and is just blocking and/or branding anyone who asks questions or states facts as a TERF or transphobe!

I do actually think Lily is a vulnerable teenager. I don't want her to be bullied despite her appalling behaviour simply because she is 19. (I'm also fine with using her preferred name and pro nouns just because I'm polite. I'd like to see that respect returned and not be called a TERF or CIS, but hey ho...teenagers)

However I don't accept that Lily is a biological woman.

I don't accept that Lily has lived experience of being a woman.

I don't accept that Lily has women's best interests at heart.

I don't accept that Lily is suitable to represent women in the Labour Party. Not by sex, not by age and not be experience.

I don't accept the Labour Party refusing to hear the concerns of women

I don't accept the shutting down of debate and the silencing of women

I don't accept that appeals to biology are anti-feminist

I don't accept that we should be re-enforcing gender roles (we should be erasing them)

I don't accept that the current extreme trans agenda is not mysogynistic

I don't accept that it isn't homophobic either

I don't accept that lesbians are bigots if they won't date people with penises.

I don't accept that sex segregation is not right and necessary in some situations

I don't accept that TRAs want access to women spaces on grounds of safety (largely because opening them up to identity rather than biological sex renders them unsafe so this makes no sense at all)

I don't accept the extreme transagenda is progressive - it is fundamentally regressive.

I don't accept irreversible medical procedures being carried out on young children

I don't accept "woman" being reduced to offensive stereotypes around wearing dresses and make up

That sounds very dodgy - mis-use of data is serious, someone needs to have a word with that boy and tell him that the information commissioner doesn't take kindly to that sort of thing.

I get the impression Lily is a fairly vulnerable teenager who is way way out of his depth here. I don’t think anyone should be bullying him. But definitely Lily should not be enabled to bully and threaten others either, and Labour needs to ask itself some serious questions on why it feels like using a 19-year-old as some pioneering test case here is in any way appropriate too.

Why is Lily's mental health precious but the mental health of the women Lily attacks isn't?

I don't want Lily - or anyone else - to feel bad about themselves. But when you have a grown adult in a position of power, lawyered up and with the support of other people in positions of power (because this is what Lily is, not a "poor girl") attacking women on social media, then criticising her actions is a perfectly legitimate thing to do.

Please stop. I can’t handle it anymore. I’m so mentally distressed that I can’t sleep or eat or go to school. No one deserves this. There’s only so many times I can read lies or my deadname or misgendering. I’m just a teenager. Please just stop. I don’t want to do this anymore.

No, that's incorrect. This is an assumption people reached and it gets repeatedly endlessly. The position made vacant was not the one Lily Madigan was elected to. They're not suited to the one they got but that's a separate matter.
