She's taking a Twitter break for her mental health because of the level of abuse she's receiving. She's a teenage girl, FFS - and even if you think she's a teenage boy, in what world does a 19 year old deserve this amount of bullying?

I hope you're all fucking happy now.

Those screen shots upthread sneering at places where women congregate in numbers eg mumsnet and talk about things that matter to them is bog standard misogyny. There are enormous numbers of women on here discussing things like DV, employment, problems with children, and talking about pregnancy, childbirth, and lots of happy stuff too. Of course when women talk it's all trivial/ stupid chit chat. Before this site woman didn't have a forum for a lot of this stuff, it's important. Where else can I talk to a broad group of women about peri menopause? Disliking mn is a very basic display of dislike and disdain for women.

MrGHardy · 21/12/2017 11:38

What are universities turning into? Terrible.

facelessvongorgeous · 21/12/2017 11:38

The Bristol one is awful. Truly horrifying. I can't get my head round the tunnel vision of (mostly) TIMs - they cannot, or choose not to, possibly comprehend why women could possibly not welcome them with open arms. Why aren't they asking men to share spaces? Oh yeah...

facelessvongorgeous · 21/12/2017 11:39

VerticalBlinds that was an excellent post.

MiMi78 · 21/12/2017 11:39

That Momentum tweet 🙄
I can't see that getting a good reaction from Black and Asian communities.
Are they trying to piss everyone off?

VerticalBlinds · 21/12/2017 11:43

faceles Smile thanks Grin

So much of what comes from the more extreme TAs is so blatantly misogynistic it's impressive that so many people are happy to pretend they don't notice.

Which in itself reveals how deeply misogyny still cuts through our society .

Thermostatpolice · 21/12/2017 11:59

The Bristol one appears to be three years old. Is that correct? If so, I'd be interested to know whether the stickers are still there or whether they've been protested and removed.

WTAFisthisshit · 21/12/2017 12:02

thermostatpolice I have no idea, someone mentioned it on another thread as being at their uni, but couldn't link an image. I googled and found that.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/12/2017 12:04

'Don't worry, they know better than you'

What misogynistic rubbish.

Smacks of the old 'calm down dear' that did Cameron a world of good.

VerticalBlinds · 21/12/2017 12:05

The Bristol one is definitely old, I have no idea if they still have these up.

9toenails · 21/12/2017 12:07

irretating

Does anyone know how to raise an objection when somebody proposes a motion that defies reason and logic?

-- "The motion as proposed defies reason and logic in that [insert brief reasons why - relatively simple in this context I'd guess]. I therefore propose the motion be not put."

You'll need a seconder, of course. This proposal then counts as an amendment to the substantive motion, which will need debating and voting on in the usual way before the substantive motion is itself debated. If this amendment passes, the motion falls and will be neither debated nor voted on.

Thermostatpolice · 21/12/2017 12:08

Thanks WTAF.

VerticalBlinds · 21/12/2017 12:09

Telling women and girls not to trust their instincts especially when they are vulnerable is a massive pushback against so much work to try and encourage women and girls to overcome their "don't make a fuss" socialisation and act even if it's just to get away.

I remember being frozen in place with creepy men on public transport when I was young, thinking if I get up and move people will wonder why and it'll be embarrassing and etc. This reinforcement that women and girls should not trust their instincts is appalling and shows a total lack of interest in or concern for the daily realities of women and girls (let's face it, it's mostly girls).

WTAFisthisshit · 21/12/2017 12:10

The good thing about all this is that woman subject to this sort of shite while they're at university will possibly be able to sue them for their tuition fees in years to come Smile

VerticalBlinds · 21/12/2017 12:11

This is further compounded by this idea that when they attack you, then you can report them.

No consideration at all of the wide range of behaviours that lots of men indulge in that cause fear, intimidation, a sense of violation etc in women and girls that are not illegal.

Ereshkigal · 21/12/2017 12:17

Yes it's quite revealing.

bambambini · 21/12/2017 12:31

I imagine that most students just want to learn, work, make friends and have fun. Makes me wonder what those running student unionists/ running for positions are actually like and what they stand for. You could have a tiny group of folk running the whole of student politics.

WTAFisthisshit · 21/12/2017 12:33

bambambini that's my take on it. Doesn't Lily hold more than one position at uni? IS Lily in fact their student union Confused

bambambini · 21/12/2017 17:29

Well it possibly only takes a few gobby kids to set the whole tone, get some mates involved and they rule the roost. I wonder how much notice the majority of students actually take if the SU and Student politics.

MentholBreeze · 21/12/2017 17:47

Back when I was at Uni there was a definite divide - those of us doing technical/hardcore science didn't go anywhere near it all because we were snowed under with lectures and labs, it was the preserve of social sciences and other degrees who got things like reading weeks (we had it, but still had lectures and labs!) or those small classes where you sit and discuss things (I can't even remember what they're called - we didn't have them).

Mind you, I suppose I was involved in the role-playing and science fiction clubs, so perhaps we all just gravitate to different things.

OnLiamsList · 08/02/2018 12:44

Lily Madigan needs help! She's Tweeted asking for donations of women's clothes. Not for the struggling, impoverished single mums of Medway, but for herself.
.
The thing is, if Lily goes into meetings dressed as a man, demanding the expulsion of women would provoke outrage at the misogyny. But if she says the exact same thing in 'womanface' she'll be hailed as a brave heroine.
.
So please, if you are a size 6 to 8, donate what you can to this worthy cause.

Don't forget clothes have to be 'cute' .... and women's ( cos lily might be sent clothes for men... 😳)

NotAgainYoda · 08/02/2018 18:18

Cisters

Oh I would love to do that. Send her the jeans, boots and and grey tops that form the backbone of my lady-wardrobe.
