I'd already dumped the Guardian and have now pretty much dumped the Beeb over this tbh - I got sick of the constant proselytising. I welcome different points of view but they are like fundamentalists, they just bang this one drum on and on. I get the fucking message, sheesh.

We don't watch loads of telly anyway and have pretty much completely switched to Netflix. I might just cancel the TV license and pick up the LRB again. In fact yes I will, fuck it. I have subbed to the Times as well, and ordered the Morning Star and the New Statesman at the newsagents.

theaveragewife · 18/09/2017 12:39

I would go to that as it's not far from me Gingernaut but I can't work out exactly what the discussion is about.......

Datun · 18/09/2017 12:44

Gingernaut

Thanks for that. Too far from me. If anyone goes, firstly be careful, and secondly report back.

Ot seems anything with the word gender in the title, could be tricky.

I asked Google the question and it appears it still does.

What this discussion is about, I have no idea. Confused

So I posted the sky clip on fb... deafening silence. Well one person did a shocked face! I think this is partly as people don't want to watch clips - often browsing the net whilst watching tv etc. But I wanted to use that clip as it was such a good summary & also sky is a source people have heard of & don't have loyalty to it or otherwise like they do with papers so much.

So my problem is not so much I'll be branded transphobic. It's that people think what is going on is trendy nonsense that isn't worth acknowledging & will think I'm alarmist for caring. I might think the same if it wasn't for the transing of children & the self id law.

Chats in person bit by bit instead I think...

So I've just gone for a run and during my run I started thinking about dicks (as you do).
Well not dicks themselves but more the phallus and its role in modern power structures and gender. There cannot ever be such thing as a female penis, a penis HAS to be male. The image of the penis is so intrinsically linked with male power it would be impossible to remove it.
The penis is often used as something to control women, think of rapes. I'm not saying everyone who has a penis is a rapist but men's power doesn't just come from their gender it comes from their biology too, and by that I mean their wee wee's.

I can't imagine men who do not want to transition ever accepting that penises can be anything other than male whether you're wearing a dress or not.

I dreamt last night that I was explaining why gender is a social construct and is used to oppress women to someone and just as they were starting to understand I woke up - frustrating!

SentimentalLentil · 18/09/2017 13:25

@Natsku you literally woke. Deep.

User I got (apart from the usual radfem friends) one new like on the video, and another comment on a news link! It's getting out there gradually...

Just testing a name change given earlier chat...

BeyondNoone · 18/09/2017 14:24

Good name!

SentimentalLentil · 18/09/2017 14:26

I've name changed too but mines not as good as yours @FactsAreNotMean

FactsAreNotMean · 18/09/2017 14:31

I did consider GenocidalManiac but figured some folk might not get the joke :D

Most amusing thing so far today is the person who identifies as a lesbian TW claiming they will get sent to conversion therapy for their sexual attraction and that their gender is butch, but they're not a man.

Confused, you will be!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/09/2017 14:43

I've started a thread on FWR re what we might be able to do activism wise regarding recent events and the fact that the TRA's are now showing their true colours. This isn't just about the gender recognition act but about a range of issues re trans

Beingrippedoff · 18/09/2017 14:44

So has anyone been brave enough to link any of this stuff on fb? If so any backlash to date? I really want to do this but am a HCP and worry a little about big brother watching...

FactsAreNotMean · 18/09/2017 14:46

I'm not very active on FB so I haven't so far. Although I did like "nerds with vaginas" the other day since they're getting agro for being haters.

delftblue · 18/09/2017 15:11

I'd love to post on fb. Trouble is I have several friends who post regularly about transphobia and I think they'd just assume I was backwards and ignorant. Then there are my friends who are probably completely unaware of all of the debate surrounding this issue. They'd most likely shrug their shoulders and think 'why is she posting? Why does it matter that some men wear dresses?'

It feels depressingly hard to voice an opinion about this but if we don't....

Sunkisses · 18/09/2017 15:27

I've 'come out' on facebook about my feelings about all this, as last week's violence was a line in the sand for me. Silent no more! There were over 200 comments on one post alone. Loads of people also 'coming out' as privately and deeply uneasy about all this trans stuff, but worried they will be called transphobe etc. It felt really liberating!

SentimentalLentil · 18/09/2017 15:30

Did you get a backlash as well @Sunkisses?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/09/2017 15:32

Loads of people also 'coming out' as privately and deeply uneasy about all this trans stuff, but worried they will be called transphobe etc

I keep coming across this in real life - especially with women of a 'certain age'...

BeyondNoone · 18/09/2017 15:43

No backlash for me, and I have some extremely choosey-choice feminists and a few transpeople on my friends list. They just ignore certain posts of mine, like I ignore certain ones of theirs Grin

OP posts:
Natsku · 18/09/2017 15:47

I have a transfriend on Facebook which is the main reason I worry about posting there, plus I think my brother has been a bit brainwashed by TRAs (not entirely sure but have a feeling he has, it's the kind of cause he is easily led into)

BeyondNoone · 18/09/2017 15:49

I was already out of the terfy closet when I got back in touch with the one person, couldn't really go back in there! Grin
