The link is a big collection of how many trans activists responded to the women's March.

I must admit, I've had a good chuckle at some of these!

Star for Tartle.

LauraMipsum · 28/01/2017 23:35

The word cunny gives me the absolute shudders Tartle following an incident in my local newsagents where I had an absolutely epic rant at the owner about a porn mag he was selling, which had a title on the front cover "Pink little cunnies" advertising a feature on teenage girls inside. His view that teenage meant at least 18 so that was okay did not accord with mine.

Patriciathestripper1 · 28/01/2017 23:39

What does cissexist mean?? Sorry to be fun but what is it!

Patriciathestripper1 · 28/01/2017 23:41

That should have said dim not fun!

AskBasil · 28/01/2017 23:42

cissexist means anything that talks about any aspect of biological sex that doesn't pretend there's no such thing as biological sex.

It's a bit difficult not to be cissexist if you live above the ground and not down the fucking rabbit hole.

Another definition, is not putting trans issues at the centre of any issue you ever discuss, ever.

So if you want to discuss menstruation and you have an hour to do it, you can use 5 minutes of that hour to discuss it and the other 55 should be used to talk about how invalidated and excluded transwomen feel by women discussing menstruation and how they should all STFU about it.

Patriciathestripper1 · 29/01/2017 00:27

Thanks AskBasil

Datun · 29/01/2017 00:34

pat

I just had to explain it to my DH. There is some biological meaning to the word 'cis' but basically it means that the sex you are born as and the gender you present as, correlate. So I am biologically a woman and I identify as a woman. But basically it's shorthand for 'not trans'.

Cissexist means you are being sexist towards transpeople. I.e., talking about something to do with being a biological women which excludes them ( because they don't have the same bits) as they identify as women and, I dunno, it's not fair or something.

So when women march about things that happen to them because of their biology (abortion, reproductive health, FGM, anything), any reference to that biology (genitals etc) is cissexist.

I think that's right.

Put simply, it's a complete load of self obsessed bollocks.

Italiangreyhound · 29/01/2017 01:09

cis-
Word Origin
1.
a prefix occurring in loanwords from Latin meaning “on the near side of; on this side of” ( cisalpine); on this model, used in the formation of compound words ( cisatlantic).
2.
Chemistry. a specialization of this denoting a geometric isomer having a pair of identical atoms or groups attached on the same side of two atoms linked by a double bond.
Compare trans- (def 2).
3.
a prefix meaning “on the same side of,” referring to the alignment of one’s gender identity with one’s biological sex assigned at birth ( cisgender; cissexual).

venusinscorpio · 29/01/2017 02:45

I think AskBasil pretty much nailed it.

Bettersleepoutdoors · 29/01/2017 02:59

Askbasil i thought so, but evidently not for everyone.
I believe I read Germaine Greer remarked on the usefulness of the C word and it resonated with me.
I often use "foof" and now I wonder if "fanjo" might need an airing.

Im not sure my flippant approach is helpful though and I feel a mixture of rage and despair about this new way to oppress women.

ethnographyofoctonauts · 29/01/2017 07:13

Trans Lobby has achieved that *pregnant women are no longer to be called mother-to-be by NHS staff so not to hurt the feelings of somebody who says they are 'trans this that or the other'.

"The British Medical Association has told NHS doctors not to call pregnant women "expectant mothers", in case the term offends transgender people.

A spokesperson from a transgender support group tells the Mail that the advice to doctors is a "massive step forwards" in preventing discrimination. But the paper's leader column says transgender campaigners are not entitled to force their opinions about changing language on to others."

Is saying breasts offensive to transmen, or trans-women?

I thought it was transmen because they identify as men and don't like calling them breasts as it's too womanly? So is it pre-op trans-women too? As, not all 'women' have breasts? Won't those who have had top surgery, at great expense in order to acquire a pair, be invested in calling them breasts? I thought that was the point?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 29/01/2017 08:41

Breasts are what you have if you identify as a woman. If you identify as a man you have a chest.
I know, I know, bonkers. The idea that a body part might have an existence separately from the gender identification of its owner doesn't come into it.

AskBasil · 29/01/2017 08:46

How come we have to not offend transmen (IE women) but we don't need to worry about offending women?

Datun · 29/01/2017 08:51

In that case countess why aren't all the rabid transactivists jumping up and down when they have spent years yearning for a pair of breasts, only to have them called chests, reminding them that they are men, not women.

Surely no-one is handing out two sets of literature, one containing the word chest and one containing the word breast.

Datun · 29/01/2017 08:53

Perhaps it's because it is only used in terms of breast feeding. Which wouldn't apply to transwomen. Although I can see if we Start calling them chests instead of breasts across the board , they will go mental.

CaoNiMa · 29/01/2017 08:56

If a transman's breasts are chests, what are their wombs? Non-gender-specific pouches for the non-gender-specific production of offspring?

Datun · 29/01/2017 09:06

Well quite. What was it they wanted to rename caesarean section? Window birth or something?

Bettersleepoutdoors · 29/01/2017 09:10

I work with pregnant women and I will not be changing my language to suit the TA agenda.

AskBasil · 29/01/2017 09:18

How come it's window birthing when the only transman in the country gives birth, but it's caesareans for every other woman?

What if women were upset by the word caesaren?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/01/2017 09:21

What's transphobic about the word caesarean anyway? Confused

Datun · 29/01/2017 09:25

If anything, Caesarean is sexist.

Datun · 29/01/2017 09:27

I maintain this is the beginning of the backlash. No expectant mother is going to be happy calling her breasts after a part of her husband's body.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/01/2017 09:40

Shouldn't that be no expectant pregnant person?

The backlash is much needed but it's going to do the reasonable transpeople no favours.

Datun · 29/01/2017 10:37

I agee Empress reasonable trans people don't want this rubbish any more than women do.

God. I hadn't realised there were so many different ways to get fucked off about one particular subject.
