The link is a big collection of how many trans activists responded to the women's March.

I must admit, I've had a good chuckle at some of these!

It would be interesting to see some TW actors play women - especially those who really pass and you don't know that they are Trans.

First time i saw Paris Lees on QT - i had never heard of them. I think Paris passes well as a woman and is quite attractive. There was still something that made me take note and look them up. Not sure if it was their rather unQT typical look/personality/behaviour that caught my attention as in who is this outspoken bolshie young woman or if something was just not right about them and throwing me off.

venusinscorpio · 05/02/2017 12:37

Paris passes well at a glance, but you can still tell. I wouldn't buy Paris playing a woman.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/02/2017 13:18

There was a transwoman on University Challenge the other night and the first thing my brain said was "Bloke". After that I noticed the long hair and blouse but they were very much secondary.

VirgilsStaff · 05/02/2017 14:01

The first is jealousy that a man got a part that Jen Richards feels she or another of the small pool of TW actors should have been given

This happens to women all the time in the industry. We have several all-male theatre companies, and most plays, films, and television programmes are conceived and written within patriarchy.

Bambambini · 05/02/2017 14:06

Must be a bit crap being a woman in film. And yes movies are generally centered round men. I was always a movie buff and used to watch the credits to count the number of female names involved. I know, sad sap that i am!

VirgilsStaff · 05/02/2017 14:09

I introduced my students to the Bechdel test. It can change the way one thinks about film.

Bambambini · 05/02/2017 14:17

Might have a look at what's playing this week and see how many women are in the top 5 cast names or if any female directors.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 05/02/2017 14:32

Most TW don't pass in real life. I imagine that's one of the reasons they're so active online. I've seen an awful lot of pix of TW and they try all sorts of tricks to look convincing. I've noticed that when a TW has, for example, written an article, the picture used to illustrate it is a very closely cropped face only pix, with loads of make up. Sometimes part of the jaw is blurred out.

You can tell that the cropping is to conceal heavy, typically male, necks and shoulders. You can put on wigs and cosmetics, but you can't conceal male proportions. Even though Caitlyn Jenner has had facial feminization surgery, from the front her shoulders, forearms and hands are unmistakably male. In one clip I've seen CJ turns her back and walks away displaying the narrow hips and heavy shoulders of an ageing male. Despite the money that CJ must've spent she only looks at all convincing in carefully posed, airbrushed, still shots.

I find the way that some TW present themselves very interesting and illuminating. If, like me, you suffer from morbid curiosity you could investigate the Reddit subgroups transpassing or gonewildtrans, the second being sometimes NSFW. TW uploading shots of themselves to share how well they pass. Except they don't. Loads of fetishism.

When I first reached peak trans, I kept seeing claims from TRAs that we've been sharing intimate women's spaces for years, we just didn't realise because most TW were indistinguishable from women. That interested me, so I started investigating how many TW were likely to fool me. And the answer is, not a lot. You get a few very young, slight and pretty TW, but there are far more who wouldn't pass in a million years.

Can someone tell me why people are reluctant to click on certain sites and groups? My web history is of no interest to anyone but myself. And I don't care what adverts crop up because my brain doesn't see them anyway.

Is there some other more sinister thing that happens?

Bambambini · 05/02/2017 14:39

Yip, majority male actors and all male directors.

Wow, Lana Wachowski looks great as a woman.

venusinscorpio · 05/02/2017 14:45

It's also about mannerisms and how people hold themselves.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 05/02/2017 15:04

Datun you can pick up malware from some sites. Happened to me once and it took me hours to clean up my hard drive. Then there's NSFW ones. I'm OK because I'm in an office on my own but there are some sites you really wouldn't want anyone passing behind you to see.

Datun · 05/02/2017 15:34

Thanks prawn

So NSFW (I had to google it) is just in case someone sees the content on your screen and disapproves, is that right?

And how likely is it to pick up malware? Would I get that from the links on some of these threads to reddit etc?

venusinscorpio · 05/02/2017 15:47

I think it's also that you could potentially get into trouble by looking at some content at work.

SpartacusWoman · 05/02/2017 16:00

I very rarely clear my browsing history, I if ten look through the search terms I've used in Google settings and wonder what a stranger think of me if they saw it :)

I'm reluctant clicking on some sites if dd is around (she doesn't hover over my shoulder but still) or I'm on a bus etc because there can be some graphic porn pop ups, mskneyimes violents, so if there's a NSFW warning, I'll add to reading list and check it once dd is in bed.

I'd clicked in the TransGoneWild Reddit the last time it was linked, first image was a middle aged TW on all fours in skimpy lingerie pointing their erect penis to the camera, dh walked past and said "been on mumsnet again?" Blush

I agree about the angles of poses, and I've noticed TW in media esp, are often photographed alone too, I'd often wondered if it's because the masculine traits would be obvious when stood next to a woman?

Also, in stories like the Tare one, the pics posted are almost always sexualised porny ones, I can't articulate why it offends me, I think it's because it's a depressing idea that many people think that's what being a woman is? Crawling about in lingerie etc? Like a "this can't possibly be man cos they look good in sheer frilly knickers?" I can't word it properly.

venusinscorpio · 05/02/2017 16:01

Love your DH's comment Grin

Bambambini · 05/02/2017 16:02

I think it was Paris Lees mannerisms and behaviour that made me notice them on QT. Paris was being overly touchy with the older stuffy male they didn't agree with - kept patting/touching him and being femininely/matronly patronising. The women (especially politicians) on QT, usually are so self contained, professional - as though trying to stay clear from typical feminine stereotypes.

Or just ignore me, that all sounds a bit nonsense!

SpartacusWoman · 05/02/2017 16:02

Also, the NSFW thing can be more about disciplinary action, there's a list a mile long of things my brother and his colleagues are not allowed to access on his work systems and porn is one of them, those subreddits have a lot of sexual posts and pictures that would probably be counted as porn.

Datun · 05/02/2017 18:11

Poppyred85 · 05/02/2017 19:59

Just had a mini rant at dh over those Twitter posts. The complete lack of insight and fury over Jared Leto collecting his award with a BEARD!!! How very dare he, when it could have gone to a TW who obviously would never have a beard...Danielle Muscato anyone? Blatant narcissicism.

VirgilsStaff · 05/02/2017 20:14

TW who obviously would never have a beard boy, have they got a lot to learn about being a post-menopausal woman.

Oh, yeah that's right they're the real women ... Wink

BBCNewsRave · 05/02/2017 21:12

Datun Can anyone enlighten me as to exactly why this hypocritical disconnect is such a characteristic of trans-ideology?

Not exactly... However, it seems to be just like attempting to have a discussion with a male abusive partner. Stuff that doesn't stand up to logic or reason, gaslighting, rapid and confusing changes of subject, conflating enitirely different issues and wilfully ignoring anything that doesn't fit their bizarre narrative, so the other person is left feeling they are somehow in the wrong.

If we scoured the Relationships board here, gathered together the most obvious LTB men and put them in frocks and heels, we'd have a pretty darn effective transactivist group...

venusinscorpio · 05/02/2017 21:23

I agree, and as a survivor of domestic abuse I personally don't feel that I am the one in the wrong. Because I now recognise when I am being gaslighted. And anyone who expects me to be ok with that can FOTTFSOFATFOSM.
