The link is a big collection of how many trans activists responded to the women's March.

I must admit, I've had a good chuckle at some of these!

They don't, but then they're going to have to stand up and criticise the transactivists then. It's not women's fault.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 29/01/2017 11:34

Having tried to get my head round the
phenomenon of the chestfeeding transman I declare myself defeated. It's so phoney, so dishonest. I have no respect for anyone who tries to claim the concept is anything other than preposterous. Most of the time I am unconscious of my sex, and I gather many feel the same, but there is no act that more comprehensively proves you're female than bearing a child.

If a breastfeeding mother is so adamant that she is a man that she insists even the vocabulary used around her must be changed to reflect this, then her disconnect from reality is such as to arouse concern about her capacity to deal with the world. Not to put too fine a point on it, it's stark staring bonkers.

Yy prawn

"If a breastfeeding mother is so adamant that she is a man that she insists even the vocabulary used around her must be changed"

If this were someone I knew in RL, I might (maybe) go along with it because there's no need to cause additional distress to this poor person, but in my head I'd be thinking "You are of course breastfeeding with your breasts, you idiot".

venusinscorpio · 29/01/2017 12:37

Yes, after you used your woman's body to conceive and have a baby, something which men are not capable of doing.

Sagggyoldclothcatpuss · 29/01/2017 12:53

WFT is "window birthing" when it's at home??? Ffs!

What I can't understand, is if you're ftmt, why you would even WANT to bear a child? Let alone breastfeed.
And also, WTF this is reported as a "pregnant man"! Men cannot bear children. End of.

Writing to your MP is a good start, Cool.

The more they hear of our concerns, the better.

Italiangreyhound · 29/01/2017 15:49

Yes the whole trans man pregnancy craps is so ludicrous. When will someone shout the emperor has no clothes on !!!

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/01/29/dont-call-pregnant-women-expectant-mothers-might-offend-transgender/

Thought about starting a thread on this but wasn't quite brave enough.

I really think the lunatics have take over the asylum now. The BMA has advised health professionals not to call women who are going to have a bay "expectant mothers" but instead to call them "pregnant people" to avoid upsetting intersex or trans gender men.

This is absolutely tale wagging the dog and I'm sorry if you give birth you are a mother. Is that not the very definition of the word.

I feel very offended, but does the BMA care? Thought not.

mateysmum · 29/01/2017 16:20

baby not bay!

Poppyred85 · 29/01/2017 17:48

The expectant mothers thing from the BMA is being discussed in a discussion group for doctors. So far the response seems to be a degree of disbelief as the story was in the Daily Fail but generally that this is nonsense. The BMA are already in the dog house following the junior doctor's contract debacle and their general inability to act as effective Union anyway so I don't think anyone's minded to take this too seriously.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/01/2017 18:59

The Mail, the Sun and the Telegraph now. That's going to be a whole lot of people who've heard nothing about this before thinking WTF????

Datun · 29/01/2017 19:48

Empress

At the very least, I hope it sparks a debate.

I often get conflicted about this issue because the stakes are all or nothing. Which feels wrong to me.

We have not been allowed to be 'inclusive' and compassionate. The TRAs have upped the ante to ridiculous proportions. So the line in the sand, which I would've liked to have drawn has now, to me at least, retreated to the point where my stance has now become polarised.

Twogoats · 29/01/2017 21:36

It's a shame that the Guardian is being very pro-trans. They won't even open the comments on any trans articles! Sad

The Guardian is an embarrassment now. I have spent my adult life buying it. No more

TalkingintheDark · 29/01/2017 22:43

CoolJazz don't know if you've come across this website before, fair play for women - thought you might find it interesting re campaigning/organising collectively.

i don't know who started it but it's definitely gender critical feminist in its approach!

CoteDAzur · 29/01/2017 23:04

Comments on that BMA article Grin

"Using its own logic, maybe the BMA should consider renaming itself:

"British" implies cultural appropriation, so therefore should be replaced with something like "Insignificant bunch of doomed islands off the coast of Europe". They should like that.

"Medical" meanwhile should not be used in case it gives offence to those who thought they had something to do with medicine as opposed to promulgating their ideas as to how the English Language should be used.

venusinscorpio · 30/01/2017 00:12

The Guardian is a parody of itself now.

wonderstuff · 30/01/2017 00:20

So wtf is cissexism? How is the word pussy transphobic? Surely they know 51% of people are women, so marching as women isn't terribly exclusive? Very odd

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/01/2017 06:15

Sorry CoolJazz, just saw your question, Talking's website looks like a really good starting point.

shinynewusername · 30/01/2017 08:08

The Guardian begs me for money every time I click on it. I subscribe to other papers/magazines, but there is no way I am going to bankroll a newspaper that censors me. Every mildly gender critical comment (I am always careful to avoid 'misgendering' etc) is removed. Their BTL are totally one-sided.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 30/01/2017 08:54

I feel the same, Shiny. I get the begging message and I think "not while you're censoring feminists, mate."

LumelaMme · 30/01/2017 09:23

Talking, that website is excellent: calm, considered and rational.
