Why can't I identify as a woman who identifies as a man who identifies as a woman if I want to?

Grin
Gallavich · 23/01/2017 19:33

If trans women are no different to any other woman and if trans women are female because they identify as female then jack can be a trans woman if she wants.

ScruffyTheJanitor · 23/01/2017 19:43

I don't get why she has to announce anything at all?
Did Fanny Cradock repeatedly inform everyone they were a woman?
Does Gordon Ramsey tweet "I identify as a fucking man you fucker"
Did Keith Floyd ever feel the need to inform us of his gender label?
Etc.

'Celebs' nowadays need to draw a line between private and public. Of Jack was concerned about all the back lash, the simple solution, tweet about recipes and cooking and leave all the private stuff where it belongs, in private.

But I don't kjbow, maybe its just me that feels that way.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/01/2017 19:46

And why answer all the trolls?

Anyone who feels the need to change their identity every few months, announce it to their followers, and then rinse and repeat every time she feels she's not getting enough attention.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/01/2017 19:47

And the joy some people are expressing on here is evidence that people are taken in by it

TheBogQueen · 23/01/2017 19:48

Can't keep up with him/her/them

Is it because she was on the women's march? Is it fashionable now?

notMarlene · 23/01/2017 19:50

Why can't I identify as a woman who identifies as a man who identifies as a woman if I want to?

Was all the rage in my day. Annie Lennox and Bowie had it sew up though.

notMarlene · 23/01/2017 19:52

*sewn up. Obviously.

TheBogQueen · 23/01/2017 19:58

I'm going to go into work tomorrow declare I'm a man and demand a payrise

AskBasil · 23/01/2017 20:01

"I don't get why she has to announce anything at all"

Maybe because she feels she needs the support and validation her followers give her?

Is that really such a dreadful thing?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/01/2017 20:16

It is a pretty dreadful thing yes. Fuck who you like, dress how you like - nobody really cares. But she has to announce every new identity, then announce when that fad is over.

It's tedious. she's like a walking car crash - and she's not happy unless she's attempting to be controversial.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/01/2017 20:16

She tries to be attention seeking then whines when the attention is negative

AskBasil · 23/01/2017 20:18

Why are you so angry with someone you judge to be a walking car crash?

I feel compassion for someone I think is a walking car crash.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/01/2017 20:21

I'm not angry, mildly irritated perhaps,I just think she's pathetic. I don't feel sorry for her, why should I? She has a kid to consider - his schoolmates' parents probably know who he is. As the child gets older, I'm sure he will find it totally humiliating that his mother feels the need to do stuff Iike that - so if I feel sorry for anyone, it's him.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/01/2017 20:23

Apart from on here, she's not that well known. The compassionate thing to do would be to let her fade back into obscurity to sort her shit out.

AskBasil · 23/01/2017 20:27

But you're not doing that by giving her more attention for being attention-seeking are you?

I agree with you to some extent, but hope she can sort herself out before her DS gets to an age where it becomes excruciatingly embarrassing for him.

I don't see how it's helpful to go on about attention-seeking as a response. That's not helping her DS.

AskBasil · 23/01/2017 20:27

Because it won't convince her to stop seeking attention I mean.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/01/2017 20:34

I think that ship has sailed - a quick Google will be fairly mortifying I imagine.

PencilsInSpace · 23/01/2017 20:43

Jack seems quite mixed up and is an attention seeker. She's also one of a very few high profile trans people who are prepared to engage with opposing views in a thoughtful way.

Aside from that, she's not an arsehole by any measure and doesn't deserve the level of vitriol she is getting.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/01/2017 20:49

2) missing out a comma so that what should have read, '... transgender, woman(ish)' was taken to mean that Jack identifies as a transgender woman rather than transgender and a woman

I'm not sure I even care but how does an xx , natal woman identify as "a transgender woman" ?

What is that supposed to mean?

DeviTheGaelet · 23/01/2017 20:52

It means she is a biological female who doesn't identify with the social construct of a woman.
Like many posters I guess

TheFirstMrsDV · 23/01/2017 20:55

pencils this is a genuine question. Is she trans?
Because a woman who dresses and lives as a woman is a woman isn't she?

I am honestly not being factitious. If JM is trans, what makes them trans?

PencilsInSpace · 23/01/2017 20:58

She identifies as trans because she still identifies as non-binary. She also now identifies as a woman. Therefore she is transgender and a woman. But not a transgender woman.

It makes no sense. Trans identity politics is disappearing up its own arse.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/01/2017 21:01

That's not the usual definition, nor as far as I can follow , what she meant when she declared she was a transgender man.

And what is the "social construct of a woman" anyway?

I see so often on here statements that girls are told to be nice, to be quiet , not to voice an opinion, make the tea at meetings etc. I must have missed that memo. Doesn't make me a transgender woman.

tygr · 23/01/2017 21:10

Jack became well known because she was a single mother on benefits and wrote a blog about low cost cooking, which then got picked up for a book deal.

She could've said no to that but why the hell would she when it took her out of poverty. She didn't really ask for all the attention that gets heaped on her now.

I think it's unfortunate that people aren't secure enough in themselves so they have to attack people for their choices.
