I think that most men do.

Drinking was a part of life in his era, it was not at all unusual. He did probably take it to an extreme.
I don`t think that it was positive in any way.

I personally think that when humans congregate in groups a dominant person will always become apparent. It is in our nature.

I like to think that humans may one day overcome this instinct but I am not at all sure of it.

In most animals it causes friction as members vie for dominance.

Our closes animal relatives are chimps, in their groups the dominant animal will be a male..

In elephants it would be a female

In ants, bees and wasps the whole colony is female and males only exist to reproduce, after which they die or are eaten.

But we are closer related to chimps
