She is incredibly annoying.

MrsTrentReznor · 20/04/2017 15:32

Irritating.
Really irritating.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 20/04/2017 18:12

Jack was acting like her "masculine" presentation led to people thinking she was a man, whereas to me she looked like a gender confirming, very pretty woman. I can't imagine anyone was ever confused as to her sex

She is very pretty. Possibly to her chagrin, but as she does look so feminine, masculine clothes just make her look glamorous, but not remotely masculine.

MotherTeresasCat · 20/04/2017 21:46

"I have turned down approaches for safe seats - to represent my neighbours, my community, the people who literally fed me when I was hungry."

For crying out loud. She was on the dole for eighteen months, in between a very well paid fire service job and becoming a famous cookery writer.

I actually can't bear it. I'm going to have to unfollow her. She offends me.

Mumsnut · 21/04/2017 09:12

Someone high profile and articulate has made the trans journey, seen that transition is not the universal panacea for body / self issues, and publicly turned back. I see that as immensely valuable.

vaginafetishist · 21/04/2017 10:45

She hasn't turned back publicly, she twists this way and that on any issue according to what she thinks will make her popular or 'brave'.

vaginafetishist · 21/04/2017 10:46

Also I can't forget how she misrepresented Julia Long on Twitter after their TV debate.

cuirderussie · 21/04/2017 11:21

She completely whitewashes her nice middle class family and involved father of her son out of the starving single mother narrative, the story was full of holes. I don't doubt it was hard (I have been a young single mother on benefits) but some of it didn't add up and tbh, I had her down as a self-promoting, somewhat unstable drama queen from the start and can't really take her seriously. Sorry to sound harsh.

This! A very privileged upbringing, grammar school education walked away from a well paid job putting herself in poverty...

MotherTeresasCat · 21/04/2017 12:06

cuirderussie take a bow.

Being a feminist does not mean unquestioningly supporting everything anyone does just because they happen to be female.

Jack Monroe is a bit of a Walter Mitty IMHO

vaginafetishist · 21/04/2017 12:12

Walter Mitty is spot on .

Yes, I am a bitter dad seperated through fabricated allegations from his 3 daughters.

My post may be ill informed, I encourage discussion.

Can anybody point me to a viable and respectable western female role model?

I would sight Christopher Hitchens as the best male I can find, although he is very unfortunatly now dead :(

Ayaan Hirsi Ali maybe?

vaginafetishist · 21/04/2017 13:11

Sure, if you like.

OlennasWimple · 21/04/2017 13:16

Care to expand, icarus, on what "viable and respectable" means?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 21/04/2017 13:34

Angela Merkel? Lots of women I know?

As for gender, which used to be called sex stereotypes, feminism would like to eradicate it: gender hurts women worse than men.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 21/04/2017 13:44

As for feminism causing transgenderism, it seems not. I don't think there's been a definitive study, but anecdotally it seems gender troubled kids are more likely to come from very conservative families, often religious, where gender roles are rigid and the parents would rather have a transgirl than a gay son.

Feminists don't like gender at all, so are far less likely to interpret gender variant behaviour as meaning a child is transgender or to encourage them to become lifelong medical patients or undergo surgery on healthy tissue.

IAmAmy · 21/04/2017 13:49

I'm not sure someone who thinks the "natural order of humanity" means a "dominant male role model" has a great idea of what makes a "respectable female role model".

cuirderussie · 21/04/2017 13:54

Why don't you start your own thread icarus? and you can tell us how we're doing feminism wrong cos we've never had that happen here before

NanFlanders · 21/04/2017 13:55

Don't agree with all their politics (and not all Western), but, as principled role models, how about Nicola Sturgeon, Angela Merkel, Selma Yacoob, Theresa May, Malala Yufusazai?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 21/04/2017 13:57

Can we not get derailed from the annoyingness of Jack Monroe by the misogyny of Icarus?

cuirderussie · 21/04/2017 14:01

Icarus is all over the feminist board today, just another embittered MRA ball of issues acting out his anger at women, please ignore. It's funny what a magnet this board is for them. Hmm

slug · 21/04/2017 14:16

Ahh....."boys with no chance of reproduction" There's the nub of it. All these women painting their hair blue and refusing to sleep with you Icarus?

vaginafetishist · 21/04/2017 14:19

I thought we could ignore him...so Jack Monroe eh?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 21/04/2017 14:21

It's amazing how irresistibly attractive we FWR posters are to a certain type of man, given that they also often believe we're hairy, ugly, lesbo feminazis. Grin
