I know this has already been mentioned in the PL thread, but I thought it might be an idea to bring it to the attention of mners in a thread of its own.

After the PL debacle, there followed a thread in AIBU about toilet. On which this post appeared...
"I'm with you OP and I'm horrified by the transphobia on Mumsnet. I have done some work with Transmedia Watch who are trying to persuade MNHQ to treat transphobia as they would treat any other hate crime. I don't know what MNHQ have against the trans community or why they don't challenge the widespread belief that trans women are rapists in frocks who want to see fannies."

So, yeah, just letting you know that they are (allegedly) on the case with mnhq.

At my uni, they seem to have added a token gender-neutral toilet in some newer buildings, and converted some toilets to gender-neutral in some of the older buildings. I think this is an attempt to make some provision, whilst admitting that if, for example, they tried to make all the toilets gender-neutral, many of our students would object strongly for cultural/religious reasons.

I can't comment on what they may have got up to in the students union.............

Datun · 25/11/2016 13:24

The trans party line is always. IF someone commits a crime they will be dealt with, as usual. The fact that the students felt uncomfortable and unsafe due to a perceived threat BEFORE a crime happened is deemed irrelevant.

THREE toilets. Three everything in fact. Women can be safe and the rest can just enjoy the chaos.

I started a thread about this in chat but it will disappear in 90 days.

Regarding folks worries about transwomen in sport, this report is from a few days ago. A transwomen Jillian Bearden was placed female first place a bike race in Tucson. I've seen some comments from other female competitors saying how angry they are. Bearden's friend and team mate, another transwomen placed 20th. So 2 transwomen (who knows if there were more) placed in the top 20 places. The comments are interesting. A trans support page, is full of Transwomen and their supporters slapping each other on the back for this a amazing progress for trans rights.

"it's absolutely huge" the transgender athlete said (of her victory)

Hmm
Prawnofthepatriarchy · 25/11/2016 15:11

The trouble with having three toilets is that while the empathetic transsexuals will probably use the gender neutral ones, the TRAs will insist on using the ladies because anything else doesn't confirm their gender feelz or their AGP.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 25/11/2016 15:14

You could end with the ladies used only by TRA types and allies, the gents by men and the gender neutral ones by everyone else.

Datun · 25/11/2016 16:19

Prawn

That why it has to be legalised. It has to be set in law that the sex segregated toilets are for that biological sex only. No choices.

One interesting comment in that article, which rather seals the deal, is that if hormones are the governing factor in determining advantage, where all the transmen winning all the male sports?

VoodooPeople · 25/11/2016 17:10

Is that protective padding down the front of their cycling shorts Hmm

VoodooPeople · 25/11/2016 17:14

“It was a tough course, especially after the river crusts,” Bearden said. “I had sweat in my eyes.”

It was probably dripping off their balls too.

Datun · 25/11/2016 18:47

That stupid woman organiser who kept copy and pasting the same comment over and over, insisting that Beardon was both legally and biologically a woman. Biologically!

Bambambini · 25/11/2016 18:58

All those women repeatedly defending Bearden - are transwomen.

RainingDay · 25/11/2016 19:36

Maybe the bathroom solution might be to label them 'real men', 'real ladies (sparkles and glitter)' and a 'no penis bathroom'. Then women can vote with their feet.

HermioneWeasley · 25/11/2016 20:49

This makes me so sad. It seems that every week there's an example of women's achievements being swept aside by men

burdog · 25/11/2016 23:08

They're like women, only better, Hermione.

HermioneWeasley · 26/11/2016 09:11

burdog exactly, they've all suffered more and are more oppressed than any woman or girl so it's only right they take accolades, jobs, spaces and achievements reserved for women

GinAndTunic · 26/11/2016 09:14

I just want to thank everyone who has posted sensible, intelligent comments in this thread.

www.lifezette.com/quickzette/trans-student-wins-girls-track-field-championship/

This happened in Alaska a while back.

The individual in question also competed on his school's basketball and volleyball teams.

From the article:
'Alaska Family Action president Jim Minnery held a protest “to ensure that female athletes are not denied the playing opportunities and scholarships otherwise available to them and to make the playing field even again”...
...“Allowing students to play on teams of the opposite sex disproportionately impacts female students, who will lose spots on track, soccer, and volleyball teams to [biologically] male students who identify as female.”

Having played volleyball, and having daughters who played, I would personally be terrified to see a daughter of mine on the receiving end of a volleyball hit by a teenage boy.

Bambambini · 26/11/2016 12:36

I just can't understand he mentality of Bearden going forward to accept the trophy for first place in front of everyone. Weren't they embarrassed? I'd love to have seen video footage or pics of everyone's faces standing watching.

I really can't get my head around how delighted they and their supporters are at this. Othe TW i can get, but non trans? Looks like Bearden only transitioned two years ago and has young children and still lives with their wife - so I read.

OlennasWimple · 26/11/2016 13:08

The problematic issue for feminists is that groups like Alaska Family Action are avowedly anti-abortion and quite probably are transphobic in the real sense of the word. These are not the bed-fellows I want in saying "hang on, my daughter is being pushed to one side here and it's not fair"

EnormousTiger · 26/11/2016 15:19

Indeed, we sometimes have to make alliances with those we hate (Syria is another example) for the wider good but that does not mean we support the views of those who on a particular issue are in agreement with our stance.

The way I live my lfe is actually pretty gender neutral but I don't play sport or go to places often where issues over who urinates where are an issue so it never really affects my life.

I probably agree with right wing Christians that the sky is blue and the earth is round. Also that men aren't women

lionheart · 26/11/2016 16:52

Yes, there will likely be some strange alliances in the coming years, especially with the situation in the US.
