Trans media watch are lobbying mnhq

I know this has already been mentioned in the PL thread, but I thought it might be an idea to bring it to the attention of mners in a thread of its own.

After the PL debacle, there followed a thread in AIBU about toilet. On which this post appeared...
"I'm with you OP and I'm horrified by the transphobia on Mumsnet. I have done some work with Transmedia Watch who are trying to persuade MNHQ to treat transphobia as they would treat any other hate crime. I don't know what MNHQ have against the trans community or why they don't challenge the widespread belief that trans women are rapists in frocks who want to see fannies."

So, yeah, just letting you know that they are (allegedly) on the case with mnhq.

I suspect a lot of people assume 'transgender' means surgery, hormones, and no more penis. Big mistake.

Yes... I suppose people think 'transgender' is just the polite version of 'transsexual', like the mealy-mouthed misuse of gender when people really do mean sex.

Yes. I thought this too until fairly recently. Thought the switch to transgender was just a polite way of naming the condition without saying 'sex'. But no, it was a calculated move to attach a bunch of perverts (trans'gender') in with people who actually do have a condition that makes their lives unbearable and seek surgeries and such to help them (transsexual)

WankingMonkey · 23/11/2016 23:30

But, but this never happens....

Not 'really' trans. would have done it with or without ease of access. Cis perverts...etc etc.

kua · 23/11/2016 23:40

etc etc yup

VoodooPeople · 24/11/2016 00:19

kua

Now setting up a 'support group'. Not sure that the local LGBT community would want to be associated with a convicted pedophile Confused

She should be using the ladies as part of her programme.

Late transitioner, convicted paedophile, in custody for possessing photos of naked children. Who will be granted access to children in toilets, changing rooms etc, upon release.

If anyone can tell me I've got that wrong, please do. Because this is doing my head in.

CoteDAzur · 24/11/2016 08:39

But she is a woman now so it's all OK. And you are all bigots.

HTH.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/11/2016 08:44

... living as a woman for 10% of the time...

"She has taken some medical advice and has two appointments arranged later this month at a gender identity clinic in London and is hoping she will be able to start on the course of hormones which will be the first steps in achieving a gender reassignment," he said.

"She then hopes this will lead to surgical reassignment but at the moment she is living her life as a woman 10% of the time."

Wonder what prison they will end up in (if at all).

Wonder what happened to the girl and what that story was? I hope that she is being protected ...

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 24/11/2016 08:52

What 10%?

Thats all you need to do?

I am so a man

Datun · 24/11/2016 09:42

If you don't have to wear the dresses, keep your penis, don't have to have any preferences for 'feminine' past times and don't care what happens to women in general, what is it they are bloody identifying with!!!?

TheCompanyOfCats · 24/11/2016 09:47

There was a two hour programme on Radio Wales last night about transphobia in sports. There was no exploration of the actual issues, just a default discussion of how brave people are, etc.

Yawn

CoteDAzur · 24/11/2016 09:53

And don't we all know how brave it is of a man to decide to "be" a woman and compete against women athletes who are weaker and smaller Hmm

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 24/11/2016 10:41

That story is so exactly the sort of thing we keep saying will happen. And it has, in all its ghastly detail.

The "aren't they courageous" narrative ignores the fact that for AGPs and others being seen in wigs, heels, etc is part of the fetish. They find any humiliation aspect arousing.

Blanchard, who researched this, found that gay men would be quite dispassionate about their presentation. They wanted men to see them as women. If they weren't going to "pass" they wouldn't transition. Men with fetishes didn't care much about passing. It turned them on to be seen as female caricatures. Stefoknee Wolscht is an example.

WankingMonkey · 24/11/2016 10:45

Wonder what prison they will end up in (if at all).

The female one of course, they may be 'in danger' in the male one. See, only safety of one group matters.

VoodooPeople · 24/11/2016 10:49

To be fair Datun it seems neither boys or girls are safe in public toilet with this creature.

"Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil heard Florida was convicted in November 2007 of rape of a boy under 16, one under 13, and raping a girl under 16.

She was also convicted of three indecent assaults of a male under 14, gross indecency with a male under 16, indecent assault of female under 14, and two counts of taking indecent photos of children"

juliascurr · 24/11/2016 10:59

Xenophile
'change in moderation policy'?
I'm quite possibly terminally bewildered, but what change?
tia

Datun · 24/11/2016 11:30

VoodooPeople

Point taken. But legitimising his access to girls, is not the way forward.

TheCompanyOfCats · 24/11/2016 13:38

Cote and Prawn - I find it so maddening that the 'brave' narrative and the implied victim-hood is the default position in the media. The radio presenter was asking 'what we can do to increase trans visibility' etc. The assumption is already made that everybody listening is broadly supportive and wants to protect these poor lambs and raise them up even further in profile.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 24/11/2016 13:55

Let's hope that among those stunning, brave transwomen who get increased visibility there's room for dear little Stefonknee and SissyKristalTG

OlennasWimple · 24/11/2016 14:39

For balance, I want to point out this story about a transman banned from using the men's changing rooms at the gym.

But I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this statement from a TRA quoted in the article: "There has to be a mutual understanding and people must have an open mind; we are all souls and that is genderless - it's not a matter of physicality or how people look, you know when you are speaking to a man or woman regardless of that."

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 24/11/2016 15:19

Where's the comment, Olenna? I couldn't find it.

As for being able to tell someone's sex regardless of their appearance, it's true that TRAs are really obviously male. It's in their approach to things, their priorities. No woman would say lesbians who refuse dick should be expelled from university, would they? Or that fear of rape is hysterical. For people who claim to know that they're women they seldom have any empathy for us. Transsexuals, otoh, generally do.

Also, to paraphrase some gay bloke on the fabulous Datalounge, transwomen are very politically active online because in person it's often hard to take them seriously. Grin

The quote isn't in the link, btw. It's just a general link to trans threads on the site.

VoodooPeople · 24/11/2016 16:21

But legitimising his access to girls, is not the way forward.

I'll raise a glass to that! Wine

VoodooPeople · 24/11/2016 16:24

Prawn

I'm going to have nightmares about that picture now, especially with the tagline "Hai. This battery pack leads to something in my ass."

Where's the eye bleach emoticon when you need it Sad

OlennasWimple · 24/11/2016 18:27

Prawn - the quote is right near the end of the article, under the last photo of Ali

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 24/11/2016 18:50

From the transman article

A transgender man is angry after being banned from the male changing room at his GYM.

Furious Ali Ramezan, 27, was born a woman and is currently undergoing hormonal therapy with a view to a full sex change to a man.

But he was asked to use the female changing rooms or not use the gym at all after several customers complained.

Ali says he has used the Bodylines gym for many years without any problems.

But recently its manager told him there had been a flood of concerns raised about his female genitals and breasts being on show inside the male changing room.

Interesting. And only one BTL comment. Where are the reams of 'die in a fire you nasty TERFs!' comments. Are TERMs OK because they are male and therefore allowed to police women's presentation and freedoms?
