Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

America would rather be led by someone who boasts of assaulting women, than a woman

And some people think we don't need feminism any more.

I have just seen a video on facebook, I think from the metro surprisingly, which shows Trump at various times openly mocking disabled journalists, and Mexicans, and muslims, and of course women. Yet we are supposed to believe the people who tell us Hillary Clinton was worse? That she should be held accountable for her husbands actions and for being a good defence lawyer. It just beggars belief that this has happened.

Lottapianos · 09/11/2016 14:38

Great post Doin. She is a seriously impressive woman and the most qualified candidate in history. I would have been delighted to vote for her if I was a US citizen. She's had a lifetime of shit being flung at her and this is how it ends. Its totally sickening.

OohhThatsMe · 09/11/2016 14:47

I can't believe that Trump hasn't made past girlfriends have abortions and paid for them. If those women came forward now, that would be very interesting.

ChocChocPorridge · 09/11/2016 14:55

Lotta - makes you want to throw something when you put it like that. She really has put herself through hell, I can't imagine doing that for any reason other than that you really thought you could do a good job and would be good for the country.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 09/11/2016 16:20

I think the statement in the title is a bit OTT. The popular vote is 47.5% Trump, 47.7% Clinton at the moment.
Even if Trump ends up leading the popular vote, it won't be by much.
American elections seem to be very knife edge. To say "Americans voted for..." anything is overstating it.
Having said that, I agree with the sentiment.

BertrandRussell · 09/11/2016 16:30

The fact that nearly half of American voters voted for Trump validates the thread title. He said things which should have disqualified him immediately.

SenecaFalls · 09/11/2016 16:35

She is leading the popular vote. I hope that holds so that those of us who voted for her can continue to point out that more Americans voted for her than did for Trump. Also I think it will be some consolation for her.

SenecaFalls · 09/11/2016 16:38

The fact that nearly half of American voters voted for Trump validates the thread title.

No, it doesn't. "America" does not mean the same thing as "47.5 of people who voted."

Xenophile · 09/11/2016 16:41

I hope you're right Seneca. I know in my state she lost by a relatively tiny number. I hope she's ok.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 09/11/2016 16:43

who had no qualms about defending a peadophile and gloating that she knew he was guilty. Not to mention brandishing his 12yr old rape victim a liar

Nope she didnt do this, and no evidence that she threatened anybody either Hmm

Such bullshit...

And i agree with the poster upthread who said everything she has been through to get this far

Aoibhe · 09/11/2016 16:43

I saw a clip on Irish news where a WOMAN was asked why she would vote Trump, and she replied with 'There's a place for women, and it's not the white house'

I despair Sad

Lottapianos · 09/11/2016 16:46

'i hope she's ok.'

Same here. She is one tough woman but just flesh and blood at the end of the day. I can't begin to imagine how exhausted she is. I think Trump was probably energised by his relentless nastiness and gaslighting but that's not her style, and facing a barrage of shit day in day out must really get to you at times, no matter who you are

Also gutted for Obama. The good work he did manage to do is about to be pissed away

SenecaFalls · 09/11/2016 16:50

who had no qualms about defending a peadophile and gloating that she knew he was guilty

Oh, for fucks sake, not this again.

I am fucking sick and tired of people on MN bringing this up again and again in complete ignorance of what actually happened. And another thing, for all the hand-wringing on this thread, there has been quite a bit of Hillary-hate on MN and yes, even in FWR. But if you are going to spew the hate at least get your facts straight. Angry Sad

tribpot · 09/11/2016 16:52

Oh god not the old 'defending a paedophile' thing again. And frankly even if she had done so willingly (bear in mind people do have the right to be represented in court) that doesn't make her a paedophile or a rapist (as DT was facing charges for again until recently).

YonicProbe · 09/11/2016 16:54

Fabulous speech to her followers!

scallopsrgreat · 09/11/2016 16:57

"...there has been quite a bit of Hillary-hate on MN and yes, even in FWR." Agreed.

DoinItFine · 09/11/2016 16:57

That half of Americans who voted were prepared to vote for a ridiculous, blustering, ignorant, racist, ignorant fascist is very worrying.

Tiivola · 09/11/2016 17:09

Many women voted Trump, the gender difference wasn't actually that big, as it turned out.

I think it's a sign of how partisan politics have become: Supporters of one party will make huge allowances for the defects of their candidate, and see defects of the opposing candidate as evidence of complete villainy.

Hence the claims that "crooked Hillary" must be locked up because she used a private email server, but Trump's boasts about sexual assault are just "locker-room talk".

Dozer · 09/11/2016 17:17

A poster on this thread alleges that Trump raped a 13 year old but wasn't prosecuted?

Wtf?!

noblegiraffe · 09/11/2016 17:19

I think the statement in the title is a bit OTT. The popular vote is 47.5% Trump, 47.7% Clinton at the moment.

When I wrote the thread title, the election had just been called and TBH the fine details weren't really on my mind. If Hillary wins the popular vote then that's pretty bloody frustrating because the country still elected Trump over her.

In the cold light of today, this is especially bittersweet, but moving nonetheless:

The speech she has just made was beautiful. She's not perfect, but she is a statesman through to the tips of her hair.

RiverTam · 09/11/2016 17:41

Can anyone link to her speech?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 09/11/2016 17:54

dozer

The case was dropped just before the election
