Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

America would rather be led by someone who boasts of assaulting women, than a woman

And some people think we don't need feminism any more.

According to the Washington Post, Trump corrected himself and said the doctor performing the procedure would be punished. He said that his position was the same as Reagan's, pro-life with exceptions. Reagan's ultimate position on abortion was only where the life of the mother was at risk.

Pizanfan · 10/11/2016 21:56

Buffy

If I cited a FB meme on my PHD I wouldve been laughed out of uni! I suspect your either being sarcastic, or have quickly googled it.

Why has this attack started on me as a person when all i'm doing is pointing out dishonesty.

Hate Trump, I HATE TRUMP ALSO, but you guys don't seem to understand that hating him, and accusing everyone and everything of sexism isn't helping the feminist movement.

Feminism is struggling right now, and we are losing women who are turning away because of the dishonesty, if you guys hate me for speaking out, but I reach one strong woman who doesn't turn her back on feminism because of this hate and dishonesty then so be it!

I'm sorry you guys can't have an open discussion, and just want to gang attack.

DeviTheGaelet · 10/11/2016 21:57

rufus I think they are doing classic derailing like that thread we had a while back.
I notice we are quibbling about abortion law rather than whether it's fair to describe a man who said himself on tape that he just grabs women by the pussy as a sexist.
I tend to think straight from the horses mouth is the best kind of evidence personally but what do I know?

Devi

And I agree 100% what he said about that was disgusting, at least now we have a base to agree on!

DeviTheGaelet · 10/11/2016 21:59

Oh my gosh pizan you have a PhD? Those are rare round these parts, Buffy especially has no idea, are you listening to the expert laydeez? snort

DeviTheGaelet · 10/11/2016 22:00

So you agree he is sexist then? Grin

Xenophile · 10/11/2016 22:01

Oh, I dunno Rufus, I've found their posts to be illuminating and clarifying.

I doubt it's in the precise way they want, but nevertheless...

Xenophile · 10/11/2016 22:04

Goodness! A PhD?

Well, as we're all just a bunch of thickies, we should of course bow to the lovely doctoral gown and hood.

Pizanfan · 10/11/2016 22:08

Devi

Clearly not. He has said some stupid stuff, but hes based his campaign on being non political, non polite, and a man of the people.

I've heard far worse from most men and women I know, but if you don't frame it in the right context then thats on you.

Like when he was foul mouthed and abusive to Rosie o Donnell, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Trumps campaign has been disgracefull, and purposely so. His campaign manager is a genius, who btw is a woman, woman rights activist, and the first ever woman to run a campaign for a Republican.

Does hiring this woman sound like the move of a sexist?

Pizanfan · 10/11/2016 22:12

Have you guys ever had a conversation, generally with a group of men, and because you disagreed with them, and refused to bow to their opinion they stopped listening to you, started mocking you, and twisted your words to try to humiliate you!

I really hope none of you have, I seem to have that a lot, and because I'm a woman my opinion doesn't seem as important to them, and it always ends with the group turning on me and me getting infuriated that I am not good enough to be there. Just for the record this experience is envoking the same sort of emotions, shame on you guys for doing this!

DeviTheGaelet · 10/11/2016 22:12

Grin love it! Men who feel entitled to sexually assaulted women can't be sexist if they hire a woman. Got it. Grin
What was your PhD topic by the way?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 10/11/2016 22:15

Was it about Christine de Pizan?

Your PHD i mean

Pluto30 · 10/11/2016 22:16

Pizan, nope, and I work in a male-dominated field (law enforcement).

Xenophile · 10/11/2016 22:22

Yup, we're mocking you because we disagree with you.

Totally.

No wonder you got that PhD.

“Do you believe in punishment for abortion – yes or no – as a principle,” asked Matthews.

“The answer is there has to be some form of punishment,” said Trump.

“For the woman?” Matthews said.

“Yeah, there has to be some form,” Trump replied.

“Ten cents, 10 years, what,” Matthews asked again, pressing.

“That I don’t know,” said Trump.

SenecaFalls · 10/11/2016 23:28

He then said that if abortion was banned, it would be illegal to have an abortion, and any woman who did have an abortion would have to have some form of punishment. What that punishment could be noone could say.

But the problem is that this is not the Republican Party position, but Trump didn't know that when he made this statement about abortion. He used to be pro-choice. He changed because he would never get the nomination if he were pro-choice. But he didn't do his homework when he shifted positions. The Republican Party takes the position that women who get abortions should not be punished, just the doctors and nurses who provide them.

YonicProbe · 10/11/2016 23:46

"Why don't you try actually talking to us, instead of throwing insults around post after post"

Radical, Buffy!

OlennasWimple · 11/11/2016 02:52

Seneca - do you think Elizabeth Warren will run in 2020 / the future? (She is who I want to be when I'm grown up... I used to think that her lack of political experience would be a barrier, but given who has just been elected president...)

Pluto30 · 11/11/2016 02:59

I don't think another woman will run again in 2020, but possibly 2024.

I like her. I'd be happy to see her run.

5to2 · 11/11/2016 03:33

Totally agree on Trump.

But I'm unclear as to whether HC is to be held up as a feminist icon, when there seemed to be a number of reports of her saying she would "destroy" women who accused her husband of rape? Of which there were several. What happened to I Believe Her?

SenecaFalls · 11/11/2016 04:10

Olenna I certainly hope Elizabeth Warren runs in 2020. I think whether she will or not depends on what happens with the Trump administration.

SenecaFalls · 11/11/2016 04:18

If Elizabeth Warren runs, she would likely need to do it in 2020 because of her age. If she waits until 2024, she will be 75. One thing that is good about the US electorate is that they don't mind electing older people, but 75 would be pushing it.

Pluto30 · 11/11/2016 04:26

That's true Seneca. I suppose there's nothing to lose from running in 2020. If the DNC haven't cleaned themselves up by then, I don't see them having many viable candidates, so she may well stand a chance at the nomination.
