And some people think we don't need feminism any more.

I've just read 94% of black women voted for Clinton.

Absolutely agree about the racism/misogyny mix. And as usual it will be black women coming off worse.

Elendon · 09/11/2016 18:52

Sian Norris has written an excellent piece on this. Yes, women have no idea how much men hate us.

Her speech was perfect and clearly came from the heart.

takesnoprisoners · 09/11/2016 19:15

Why should Hillary be elected because she is a woman? All her corruption and scams should be tolerated, her lack of judgement tolerated because she is a woman?

I would love to see a woman lead the US. But a strong woman, someone who is not so corrupt like Hillary. I would love it if Michelle Obama would come to power. She is strong, sensible and has a great personality. She is my kind of strong woman. Also, her husband is a brilliant guy who will support her wholeheartedly(i think). I would rather wait and get a brilliant woman leader than a mediocre one.

I guess we just gotta grab life by the pussy, as Trump himself put it.

Lorelei76 · 09/11/2016 19:19

Elondon, it's worse than that - and I've said this before, it's just the result underlined it - many man pleasing type women have contempt for women.

I'd rather have a mediocre woman (though I fail to see how anyone can regard HRC, who is so immensely qualified for the job, as mediocre) than a misogynistic, racist, sexist, disabilist, morally devoid man.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 09/11/2016 19:24

takes

I dont think anyone has said she should be elected JUST because she is a woman

I agree with river

user1478684818 · 09/11/2016 19:27

@BestIsWest, Trump's words, not mine

btw telling someone to f**k off isn't exactly a friendly expression either.

Elendon · 09/11/2016 19:39

Oh Lorelei I know. I know many women who have run themselves into the ground to please and serve and then are disposed of for a younger model, or submit to gruelling makeovers to keep themselves fresh.

DeviTheGaelet · 09/11/2016 19:59

Thank you for this thread giraffe. I've been feeling miserable about this all day. I get the impression that some of the voting was about "reasserting the natural order" (same with brexit). I don't fucking want the natural order where everyone is more or less shafted by the white man.

This quote by doin is perfect
If you overlook his racist and misogynist talk and vote for him anyway, then you are being a racist and a misogynist.

Boolovessulley · 09/11/2016 20:08

I was gutted by the result.

Elendon · 09/11/2016 20:12

Racists and sexists lie all the time and they lied re their voting intentions, hence the polls were skewered.

Great OP giraffe

MidMay · 09/11/2016 21:01

Senate women of colour has increased four fold post election (previously 1, now 4) according to an Independent article I've just read. Some progress, albeit small.

Childrenofthestones · 09/11/2016 21:06

I take it you'll all be voting for May come the next election then?

YonicProbe · 09/11/2016 21:11

Has corbyn been caught boasting about grabbing women by the pussy then, Stones?

Lorelei76 · 09/11/2016 21:21

Children, no one is suggesting women deserve an automatic pass.
We are suggesting that a man who looks down on women, anyone not white, disabled people and even war veterans was the worse choice.

noblegiraffe · 09/11/2016 21:22

You don't get to vote for May unless she's your MP. Voters don't choose the Prime Minister.

We (women) are our own worst enemy sometimes.

I'm profoundly depressed by what has happened.

DeviTheGaelet · 09/11/2016 21:27

children if we don't get some form of more credible opposition I would consider it and I've never voted Tory.
If I lived in Scotland I'd vote for Sturgeon and I would vote for Wood in Wales.
I think our female party leaders are good compared to the male party leaders.

StealthPolarBear · 09/11/2016 21:29

Hey!! It's taken all day but I've thought of a silver lining. We no longer have to worry about disgruntled trump supporters bearing firearms, doing his bidding.
oh yes. This is the man who suggested his supporters SHOT his opponent. Then tried to weasel out by talking, quite frankly, bollocks. Diamond of a man. Very professional.

Oh great. Do you think they're a bit disappointed to not have an excuse? There goes thay silver lining.
