It is just so depressing to think that a university in this day and age thinks it is acceptable for someone who represents them to use hate speech like that. What price safe space if that's how it is OK to describe women?

I was a supporter of the then GaySoc when I was at Edinburgh Uni, as my best friend was in it. I was there at the events, I helped with the petitions, I bought the raffle tickets and went to the benefits and the parties. We didn't expend all that energy fighting for the right of gays and lesbians to be treated as full human beings so that vicious little homophobes and misogynists like Ada could rock up thirty years later and roll all those gains back again by hounding lesbians out of student office positions. I fucking despair. What was the point?

I just can't get my head round the level of tolerance there is out there for open hatred of women and especially lesbians.

Ada and their supporters have hounded out anyone in student politics at Edinburgh who speaks against them, notably Magdalen Berns. Those who speak up for lesbians are vilified, while Ada's hateful nonsense is allowed to stand unchallenged. Fear at a guess. I did a quick google and it seems those who have attempted to counter Ada have been hounded out of student politics. The SU seem to support Ada and not those she insults and vilifies.

It's just awful, they can't even speak out in their own organisation when the head of it is just as bad from my limited perspective as the people who I would imagine such an organisation is supposed to be fighting against - I don't know much about how this person would have been put in the role, is it elected? I just hope somehow this person is removed it seems dreadfully unfair.

Ada is a particularly nasty piece of work but the biggest issue is that Edinburgh University is legitimising their pov by allowing them to hold an elected position.

So sick of all of this nonsense. A few weeks back I had some woman going down my neck as (this was a complete stranger, hadn't seen her before in my life) I was asked what I would do if I was dating someone and it turned out they were pre-op trans. Ie. being a straight woman, if I was dating a guy and it turned out he had no penis and was actually a woman. To be fair I should have just ignored, but I was tipsy and occasionally enjoy random stranger convos, AND I feel it may be necessary to point out I was drinking on the 'gay scene' that night also, where stuff like this is way more common. Nope. Tipsy me said I would be pissed off about the lies, and probably leave them...
