Trans people to be JAILED in Alabama town if they go to "the wrong toilet"

Unbelievable. There has been a lot of hate recently in North Carolina with the bathroom bill. But this has got a lot worse. [ www.al.com/news/anniston-gadsden/index.ssf/2016/04/oxford_passes_law_aimed_at_tar.html]

So a transwoman will have to go the male bathroom. A transman in the female one. There's been cases of butch women being hassled already in female toilets.

Oh - and if you're in North Carolina and witness someone who you think is in the wrong bathroom, you can call the hotline.

Meanwhile, a convicted sex offender (who is also Ex Republican House Speaker) is allowed to go the male bathroom with boys.

The only good thing about this bill is that it's made people react to the discrimination and to show that many people think this is discrimination. Just like in the 60s. Apparently trans people are sexual deviants.

This is the real effect of hate.

Why can't transwomen demand their own toilets or seperate toilets that are unisex

Why are we playing into this delusion and that is what it is that they are female/women it's impossible for a man to become a woman

You can't change your sex

PennyDreadfuI · 28/04/2016 17:54

Do you know what I hate? The notion that if you support keeping women only spaces as just that, you're considered some sort of right wing monster. For fuck sake. I was on the junior doctor's picket line yesterday, I'm a Labour party member, I'm a union rep. And yet. Because I want to feel safe when I have a piss or change in the gym I'm considered in some circles to be the love child of Donald cunting Trump and Hitler.

Fuck. Right. Off.

PennyDreadfuI · 28/04/2016 17:56

Excellent post, Hermione

PaulDacresMicroPenis · 28/04/2016 17:56

Transwomen don't want unisex or trans toilets, they want to validate their identity by using female spaces.

wannabestressfree · 28/04/2016 17:58

Am with you penny. Why is a predominately British parenting site attracting this goady horse shit in droves....dicks in the women's bathroom, 'cis' were you born with a vag or not, is your hole a real hole angst....
Just fuck off already.....

ApocalypseSlough · 28/04/2016 18:02

This is what not being able to access adequate sanitation means, not some goady Angels on pinheads 'dilemma' trans women have. Hmm

PerpendicularVincent · 28/04/2016 18:07

Well said Penny, I am so sick of this goady rubbish and repeated rehashing of the same points.

user7755 · 28/04/2016 18:08

I dont give a monkeys what shape anyone's genitals are unless I'm involved in some sort of sexual conduct with them. I also don't think that 'mumsnet' is a homogenous group which a small number of people can speak on behalf of.

I think it's appalling that in 2016 we have to have these conversations.

MailonlineEffOff · 28/04/2016 18:09

People with disabilities are male/female, they are given one designated loo/bathroom. A uni gender trans toilet could be added to legislation to keep the trans community safe from males. Problem solved.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 28/04/2016 18:20

And how many of the people supporting the trans right to pick a toilet have only seen the memes of pretty, passing, harmless-looking TWs & assume that they've all either had SRS or are waiting for it?

Show them Danielle Muscato, or Alex Drummond, or Stefonknee Wolscht & then see what they say. And then ask how they think anyone is going to stop men declaring themselves female & stripping off in the women's changing room at the local pool.

I'm going to go find you the list of men who have pretended to be female in order to invade women's spaces & attack them. That would be illegal whatever, you say? Yes. TWs being attacked in the men's would be illegal whatever too.

PennyDreadfuI · 28/04/2016 18:20

The thing is with disabled loos is that they're individual, lockable cubicles. There's no possibility that somebody with ill intent could be the cubicle next door, say [[http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Man-Dressed-as-Woman-Arrested-for-Spying-Into-Mall-Bathroom-Stall-Police-Say-351232041.html]]

As I said upthread, why not have an additional gender-neutral toilet? Although that probably wouldn't be good enough for certain special snowflakes. They're WIMMIN, goddamit! You can tell because of their lovely BEARDS!

LarryStylison · 28/04/2016 18:24

Hugs OP

Tbh, your situation sounds horrible. I don't think I could stay if I was you. You need to ask your wife what she wants and go from there. Ask her to write it down if she can't say it face to face. Communication is the key to a healthy relationship. Good luck!

RuthyToothy · 28/04/2016 18:33

Luckily MN is not the real world.

I suspect your view on this would have been different if you'd met with unanimous agreement.

RuthyToothy · 28/04/2016 18:35

The world has moved on - Transwomen aren't a small group who all have genital surgery, there is a growing group of men who are using trans/non binary/whatever to claim they are oppressed, while using it to silence women and take over women's space.

Yes, absolutely this.

user7755 · 28/04/2016 18:37

I have never met anyone in real life who thinks like mumsnet about trans issues. I am really shocked by people's views

There's a sample.

EponasWildDaughter · 28/04/2016 18:42

I've never had a conversation about this in RL with anyone except my own family (bought on by them asking what i'm reading on MN). It's never come up and i've never bought it up with wider family or friends.

If it did, however, i'd voice my opinion quite happily: Penises don't belong in women only spaces.

Can I ask those in favour of transwomen (to include those with penises, and/or who present as male) using female toilets how they feel about women who have previously suffered sexual assault having to share facilities with men?

user7755 · 28/04/2016 18:58

Takes all sorts I suppose.

But if you are trying to convey a sense of not being transphobic etc you might want to avoid the ridiculous 1970s style stereotypes. Doesn't really convey the impression you seem to be going for.

I say again. I don't care what shape someone's genitals are unless they expect me to do something with them. It's none of my business, it doesn't affect me, I can't see that allowing people who identify with a gender other than the one they are born with to use the toilets that 'fit' with this puts anyone at anymore risk than they would ordinarily be.

Knotnora · 28/04/2016 19:01

Except when it does affect you.

Our gym has communal changing rooms. We all walk around in various states of undress. Some women are menstrating, putting towels in, tampon strings hanging down. Are you saying it shouldn't affect us if a man walks in with cock and balls and expects us to just go about our business and not mind him because he feels that he is female?

user7755 · 28/04/2016 19:01

What do you mean Penny?

We have separate cubicles, we are not talking about sharing cubicles but the outside space. We are no more vulnerable in that space than many other spaces.

I say that as someone who has been raped.

user7755 · 28/04/2016 19:03

Knotnora - I wouldn't walk around like that in a communal changing room full stop. I would dress / undress discreetly in any public situation regardless.
