This is the 17th incarnation of the Feminist Pub!

Here be goats, cannons and chat on feminism and related themes. Also snacks. And booze, copious booze.

Welcome!

Just the pill? is that normal in NI? I assumed you were after the coil or implant as I know some smaller gps don't fit them. He/she really limits you to one choice.Angry

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/02/2015 13:18

He. You specified the sex.

Would changing GP help?

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 13:27

I was after the coil or the implant. The pill doesn't agree with me. So I have to go to the family planning outpatients (where they only offer the implant) Hmm and I have that almost month long wait for a consultation.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/02/2015 13:31

So you can't get the coil or depo at all, have to wait ages for the implant, and then those fucking law makers have the fucking cheek to also limit access to legal termination.

Sorry. That was a bit of a rant. So angry on your behalf.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 13:31

The gp is a one man affair in a tiny village, miles from the next village, with an occasional female locum in two or three days a fortnight. He's a pretty good gp so I'm loathe to change him.

I just have to suck it up and wait for the fpa appointment. And keep avoiding Mr Mouse. Too scared of ending up in the same situation if there's another condom failure.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 13:36

I could go to Marie stopes but the IUD is £106 and the Mirena £197 plus £64 for consult fee

NI is failing it's women in every respect.
I actually avoided applying for uni last year because I didn't want to be tied to the fuckhole place for the next 3 years. I intend to move when Mr M completes his MA.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 13:41

Penguins here's the full fee list for Marie Stopes www.mariestopes.org.uk/women/contraception/marie-stopes-contraception-care/marie-stopes-contraception-fees it is prohibitively expensive for most people. And I'd say completely out of reach for anyone on a low income.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/02/2015 13:52

Angry My GP is big, admittedly, but I can get all those things on site at the GP.

GibberingFlapdoodle · 25/02/2015 13:55

Northern Ireland sounds like a bloody awful place for women actually. It begins to seem like an embarassment to the UK and the UK is not exactly the best place to be born female.

I expect people are fed up of this, but I am realising that I've been underestimating this transactivist threat (not being on Twitter and the like) and I am absolutely horrified. This is just a handful of individuals out of a slightly bigger handful: why are they being allowed to hold the trump card when their rights intersect with women's? How did they ever get to feel so entitled if they're such a downtrodden group? This doxxing, harassment and threat business is terrorism and a threat to free speech no matter who is doing it to whom.

GibberingFlapdoodle · 25/02/2015 13:56

Should have said rUK obviously, but blimey NI does seem to be a world of it's own.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 25/02/2015 14:11

Gibbering the more I read, the more I think this tiny vocal minority are just entitled, horrible individuals, whatever sex or gender they are. I really hope the police start to get involved at some point, and they're shown for what they are.

Enormouse that is shocking - sounds like in some ways NI hasn't emerged from the 70s, which perhaps shouldn't surprise us.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 14:20

I went on Twitter and on some of the more vitriolic blogs gibbering and its terrifying. Poor glosswitch and anyone else who has been targeted by this awful minority. I agree with freddie, it must be falling into the remit of cyber stalking and harassment.

I feel a bit more dejected. I double checked with Marie stopes as I thought I might have gotten it wrong and that they'd offer contraceptives on the nhs. They don't. Poor bloke on the phone, all he could do was direct me back to my gp and the family planning service.

It is definitely 30 years behind here, with certain areas another 30 years behind that.

I did find this when I was trying to find calming things online.

Smile cheered me up quite a bit

GibberingFlapdoodle · 25/02/2015 14:41

I bet you don't have lower taxes in NI either do you (or is the argument that the extra cash goes into extra policing) to allow for the lower standards.

It's religion isn't it. I am wonderng why it's been allowed to go on, why women put up with it, but I think I already know the answer. All you can do is get out if you have the option, I would. And complain to local politicians if you can't. Nasty situation. Flowers

GibberingFlapdoodle · 25/02/2015 14:44

Have you read the link from the front page about funny insults from kids , it is v funny if you want cheering up.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 14:54

I'm assuming the taxes are going into debates about which flag flies from stormont or which of the catchily acronymed political parties will be representing NI at the debates. Or the terrifying DOE adverts. It sure as fuck isn't going into the nhs or public transport.

gibbering I love it Grin thanks. I've also found a tumblr called calming brits.

BreakingDad77 · 25/02/2015 15:05

gibberingflapdoodle - I found some of the jokes this moderator collected from a kids jokes website both bizarre and funny!

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/02/2015 15:26

My kids threaten to call the RSPCA. Grin

INickedAName · 25/02/2015 15:30

That's a long wait enormous would you be guaranteed to get the implant fitted on that appointment or will it be a consultation and then another wait for an appointment for a fitting?

I've been reading the trans debate threads and links, I've not posted on them as I've been worried about using the wrong terms and it hasn't been something I've given thought to previously so I've been digesting all the different view points. But the "cis" label I don't like and I was suprised that police action hasn't been mentioned, some of the twitter stuff etc is vile.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 15:37

nicked it's just a consultation. Depending on where I am in my cycle, I might have to wait up to a month. Could be longer if they're as busy as they say they are.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 15:40

A month after that consultation, I mean.

OublietteBravo · 25/02/2015 20:05

Enormouse Sad - that's terrible. I can't believe they make it so difficult.

Anyone else watching Suffragettes Forever! (just started on BBC2)?

OublietteBravo · 25/02/2015 21:57

Hello. Anyone around? Awfully quiet in here tonight...

BOOM

just felt like firing the cannon - no particular reason - hope I didn't scare the goat

CosmicDespot · 25/02/2015 22:12

This is a nice soothing thread, if anyone's feeling the need for a bit of peace.

I didn't realise contraception is so hard to obtain in NI. Is it more easily accessible in towns? I am horrified at the idea that access to fp services is restricted because of religious dogma within the UK .
