This is the 17th incarnation of the Feminist Pub!

Here be goats, cannons and chat on feminism and related themes. Also snacks. And booze, copious booze.

Welcome!

thanks for the recommendation kickass - I've just added it to dd1's kindle, as it sounds just her thing.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 08/02/2015 03:18

ooh, it's lovely being online at this hour - everything's so quick Grin

(we live in the boondocks, but super whizzy fibre is being laid along our road AS I TYPE).

kickassangel · 08/02/2015 03:23

never thought to help myself to a pint late at night when the barstaff aren't looking! how slow am I?

Right, time to go wild. A pint of green gloop it is!

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 08/02/2015 04:00

green gloop??

I've only just found the dino thread - a thread of joy and terror rolled into one.

now I must try to get some sleep - night kickass

Artifexmumdi · 08/02/2015 08:08

I know Death in Paradise started out as 3:1 and I was just hoping when it became 2:2 it would stay that way. I'm just disappointed.

But thread has moved on. Hope you feel better Freddie.

StormyBrid · 08/02/2015 08:41

Why is the pub decorated in tribute to Flop? Is he a feminist icon? I'm confused...

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 08/02/2015 08:56

Um, no, no feminist iconery. Just fancied a change Grin

I'm not sure Brid, I'm assuming in reference to the OP's namechange? Lol at Cromwell as feminist icon. Though if it's a straight choice between Thomases, More said that a boy without a winkle was a girl, so we're definitely not decorating in his honour

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 08/02/2015 09:01

Well, we won't get mistaken for an All Bar One with this decor...

LOL Petula.

(I should say that I have stolen that joke from Jeanne)

VampyreQueen · 08/02/2015 10:05

Hello again!

I joined in the last Pub but it whizzed by so fast my poor fingers couldn't keep up.

*Drinks a large can of Red Bull and attaches a rocket to her wrist.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 08/02/2015 10:15

Morning ladies (and any gentlemen ).

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 08/02/2015 10:18

So this morning I've learnt that my three year old thinks that doctors are automatically men, and nurses are women. What? Where has he got this from?! It's not me or DH I'm sure.

PetulaGordino · 08/02/2015 10:22

Hoppy I've seen that with a child whose own mother is a doctor

Dragonlette · 08/02/2015 10:29

Dd2 thought that too until I pointed out that she's only ever met women doctors, and the last nurse we saw was a man. Now she tells all her friends that everyone is allowed to do jobs that they're good at.

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 08/02/2015 10:45

Hoorah for mini Dragonlette.

Petula, no new books for a year??!!

OP posts:
PetulaGordino · 08/02/2015 10:56

I have enough books in my to-read pile to last that long easily!

VampyreQueen · 08/02/2015 13:20

I was really surprised to see a female bus driver the other day. Which is ridiculous because there is no reason at all that a woman can't be a bus driver (or a doctor or an astronaut or a race car driver) but I still did a bit of a double take.

It's funny how we can have these conditioned responses without even realising it.

TwiceForkedLightningTree · 08/02/2015 13:22

I've seen lots of women bus drivers, but I reacted similarly when I saw women builders. Must be tough people!

EBearhug · 08/02/2015 15:35

It's not all bad - someone I knew, their child was quite shocked to realise that men could be doctors too, because they'd never met one.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 08/02/2015 17:27

He's said a few things along the lines of 'that's for girls' recently, I think it's from pre-school. They're generally very good but I might have a little word with his key worker.

It's funny how things like that sneak in.

grimbletart · 08/02/2015 17:38

I love it when I get on a plane and hear "this is your captain speaking.." and the voice is, shock horror, female. Cue some shifting in seats by some of the Y chromosome owners. Grin

AnnieLobeseder · 08/02/2015 18:30

Indeed Grimble. I was on a flight with a female pilot, and after she had announced herself the man sitting next to me thought that it would be appropriate to tell me that he doesn't feel particularly safe with a woman at the controls. And actually seemed surprised when I didn't wholeheartedly agree with him and proceeded to give him the cold shoulder for the rest of the flight.

DoctorTwo · 08/02/2015 18:42

I wonder if that barrister would defend my rapist because I'd had a few drinks and was asleep when he penetrated me... Whether he would or not his views are, to quote Rhona Cameron, cuntish. Beyond this I have nothing to add.
