Feminist Pub 14: The Bluestocking, a place for feminist chat and feminists to chat

Welcome!

This is the 14th incarnation of the Pub and is meant as a place to drop by with random thoughts and meandering chats, on feminist or other related themes. Anything you want to mull over but not necessarily start a thread about. Alternatively, flop onto the chaise lounges with some Wine

We have a pub goat, a feminist cannon for firing at crazy sexists and a variety of drinks and snacks. And stools/bar counters at female friendly heights. And a crèche in the back somewhere

Will link the last pub in the next post!

I have a weight-loss support thread going, Petula. Which I am ignoring since I have inhaled many cakes today.

Nooooo Annie, you can't hide away. I went and admitted that on the ONE day I wasn't doing to eat chocolate, I ate chocolate!

FrauHelgaMissMarpleandaChuckle · 21/11/2014 17:40

omfg just omfg

He's a friend of a friend - we had met in a bar a few weeks ago and texted a time or two. He had heard from his mate that I was having a bad day or three and had texted. to see if there was anything he could do.

So we ended up going for lunch today.

He's beaut. Tall. And I like them tall. Doesn't matter when he's on his knees, obv, but I like them tall. Grin he's 6ft5 fucking hell I'm 5ft2 He's got salt and pepper hair, nicely chunky proper broad shoulders.

He didn't twing any of my "dickhead" alerts and yes I snogged him Grin

FrauHelgaMissMarpleandaChuckle · 21/11/2014 17:41

Annie - I ate a starter, main course AND CHIPS AND A DESSERT.

Fuck it, it's only one day, start again tomorrow?

ballsballsballs · 21/11/2014 17:46

Can I please come in here and have a mini-rant?

[rant]
It's been a shit week. A friend died of cancer, and I'm still waiting for test results that may be life-changing or... not. I texted another friend about the death and she was in tears (despite not knowing my friend). She's hounding me for test results - last time we spoke she told me she 'was worried about me'. I've realised that she has a way of subtly making my shit all about her, and today it's giving me the rage. She's a close friend and I don't know how to nicely tell her to FTFO off with her dramatic worrying about me - if she's worried about me I don't want to hear about it. And right now I may just bite her head off.

[/rant]

[tea] and Wine all round. And massive Flowers for everyone dealing with the anti-feminist and victim blamey stuff that's prevalent here at the mo.

FrauHelgaMissMarpleandaChuckle · 21/11/2014 17:51

I am avoiding the anti feminist stuff and the rape threads as my blood pressure would not stand it.

Balls - that's crap - I had a friend who I ditched because she was doing that re my mum - making it all about her - there's a name for it but I forget.

Brew and Wine

Yes Buffy that works but am thinking like "grief tourism" but it's not

SconeRhymesWithGone · 21/11/2014 18:16

grief voyeurism?

ballsballsballs · 21/11/2014 18:18

It's not quite narcissism. She's incredibly sensitive (almost overly so) and I think 'needs me to need her' IYSWIM. Mostly it washes over me but today it's annoying.

A much closer friend took her own life a few years ago, and DM wept copiously over the phone. She'd hated my friend and was barely on civil terms with her. Much grief tourism abounded at the time...

MEOD Shock and Flowers. YY to managing the emotions of others. Fuck that noise.

Thanks lovelies for bringing my rage down from semi-nuclear to a quizzical 'WTF?'.

mimithemindfull · 21/11/2014 18:49

Good evening all. Can I buy as round of Wine and Cake ? Have been reading and empathising. It never ceases to amaze me how much sht we all get but its wise words and comfort from women like you who make it bareable . my line manager is a bully and is trying to make my working day as difficult as possible. However on the bright he's stupid
Also I'm peed off because ukip got another seat. Arrg what is wrong with people??
Does anyone have any good news this evening?

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 21/11/2014 18:56

Maybe UKIP having a couple of seats is a good thing? Just enough time ao show their true colours before May?

OublietteBravo · 21/11/2014 19:06

Not sure I can help on the good news front. DD hurt her knee during her PE lesson (hit with a hockey stick), and we're trying to work out whether she needs to go to A&E or not. She's currently sitting in the sofa with an ice pack on her knee.

Oh aye thanks penguins hadn't thought of it like that. Smile Although I fear that people who vote for them might actually like the true colours ..

mimithemindfull · 21/11/2014 19:09

Oh sorry about that buffyFlowers but often your posts are very cheerful.

mimithemindfull · 21/11/2014 19:11

Oh poor dd obFlowers a and e not the nicest place to spend a frday night

AnnieLobeseder · 21/11/2014 19:12

Oh no, Buffy, sorry to hear that.

OublietteBravo · 21/11/2014 19:12

Finding it hard to be positive about the UKIP result. I'm trying to be grateful to live in a democracy where people can vote for whoever they like, but I'm not sure it is helping.
