Thanks Petula I knew a well-educated regular would be able to tell me!

A large mug of tea for me, please. And a Tunnocks tea cake. I had one at the hospital this morning (standard preggy check up but it took aaaaages) and it was the highlight of my day so far.

PetulaGordino · 06/10/2014 17:32

i didn't know who trevor slattery was, so i googled and it turns out it's a character (playing another character who is a front for an evil organisation) from marvel comics

i just like saying "trev"

trevortrevorslattery · 06/10/2014 19:46

I do love marvel Smile

NormaStanleyFletcher · 06/10/2014 22:32

Evening all. I am going to try to join in (and keep up) for this new thread.

Mines a pint of gin.

PetulaGordino · 06/10/2014 22:52

Ah Norm and Trev. Feels like a proper local Grin

trevortrevorslattery · 06/10/2014 23:03

I propose we have our own tankards hanging up at the bar with our names on

PuffinsAreFicticious · 06/10/2014 23:16

A pint of gin? How gloriously Victorian of you!

I also love the name Trev, it was a lovely lovely friend's nickname, mine was Derek. It's best not to ask.

I will also admit to being a comic book geek.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 06/10/2014 23:44

For comic books I always loved sandman by Neil gaman (sp?)

trevortrevorslattery · 07/10/2014 13:31

Smile sadly I am not cool enough for actual comic books! I have only come to Marvel through the medium of film and TV. I like Neil Gaiman though - he rules. I've just finished Ocean at the End of the Lane (not a comic book though)!.

It's odd but I like it. All the characters who do anything interesting are women witches

AnnieLobeseder · 07/10/2014 14:22

Urgh. The Feminism Facebook page posted a meme saying "The worst thing we can tell our daughters being teased in school, 'He's mean because he likes you.'"

Which is a valid message.

But one of the first comments is "but girls are mean too!".

It's just so fucking insidious isn't it? Just a knee-jerk reaction - "But men suffer too!" "But women do it too!!" without even pausing to absorb what the message is actually saying.

PetulaGordino · 07/10/2014 14:33

bah

it ENTIRELY misses the point

AnnieLobeseder · 07/10/2014 14:44

That too, Petula, and I responded as such.

AnnieLobeseder · 07/10/2014 14:46

But it's disappointing that all the comments thus far are whataboutthemenz, since it is supposedly a feminist group.

PetulaGordino · 07/10/2014 14:52

my mum does it all the time. she is completely and naturally pro-equality, but seems to have a mental block about this sort of thing. my brothers were reminded to be kind and gentle, i was reminded not to be manipulative and bitchy. it's very subtle

On a more frivolous note, we've just watched Arrietty. I am so impressed with Studio Ghibli ...

DoctorTwo · 07/10/2014 20:16

Watching RT and looking at their roster of reporters it seems they are female friendly. Gayane Chichakyan and Marina Portnaya in the US (bolstered by Lindsey France), Polly Boiko in London, Paula Slier in Iraq/Syria etc. The sole male with his own territory appears to be Peter Oliver in Germany.

Also, many of the standalone shows are fronted by women. Breaking the set by Abby Martin, Sophie & Co by Sophie Scheverdnaze (wonder if she's related to Edward), Worlds Apart with Oksana Boyko. Plus the brains behind the Keiser Report is Stacy Herbert, Max Keiser's wife. It's refreshing to see a news station with mainly female reporters, and they're all bloody good.

Oh, forgot Maria Finoshina in Ukraine and Anissa Naoaui presenting In The Now.

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/10/2014 20:25

What's RT? >

Now I have 2 small people "borrowing" things and making nests for borrowers when they should be in bed. Hmm

WorkingBling · 07/10/2014 20:31

I've tried to stay in the pub before hit life always overwhelms me. Trying again. Will take wine. A large glass as in real life it is all small glasses due to dc2 lurking in my belly! Grin

I had the innocent, "do who looks after dc while you are working" question from a new colleague this week. A woman. I wanted to cry.

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/10/2014 20:59

Hello working! I haven't been asked that for a while, but if I do I'm going to say "I put them in kennels". Or someone on MN once suggested looking panicky and say "shit shit shit I knew I forgot something" and run out of the door. Which I think is brilliant.

WorkingBling · 07/10/2014 21:20

It's so hard though. I know these people mean well. And starting the relationship with something so firm seems counter productive.

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 07/10/2014 21:26

Ack, they're feral, they're fine.Grin Would probably be my answer. Or if feeling conciliatory I would say "We use a brilliant nursery. " or whatever. Plural responsibility not singular.
