Yep Puffins, that's right I'm in Oz, the land of 'misogyny and racism' Grin. And Cheese Twisties are the best - love them myself, but they do look like little boy's penises, so I was tickled pink when it was mentioned here. Might have to buy some little boy's penises to have with my wine tonight Grin

ZombiePuffinsAreREAL · 31/10/2014 20:42

Awwww maaaaaaaaaaaan!

Totally jealous now. Twisties, mint crisp and violet crumble. I need them in my life.....

UnwittingAccomplice · 31/10/2014 20:56

It was that whole miley cyrus and whatshisname thing as well. But if it's actually just dancing waggling your bum up and down and the sex reference is miley looking for more attention then the top worries me less Smile

UnwittingAccomplice · 31/10/2014 20:57

Now zazzles, what you really need are burger rings!

Zazzles007 · 31/10/2014 21:03

Mmmmmmmm! Unwitting Grin

BellaSolanum · 31/10/2014 21:45

Hello! I've barely made it onto this pub, so I wanted to check in. I have feminist pork scratchings.

Yay feminist pork scratchings! I'm not questioning why they're feminist, I'm just going to scarf them Grin

JeanneDeMontbaston · 01/11/2014 00:11

That is a very good article; the history of coverture is one of the reasons that I kept my name when I married.

There is one error in the article. Sadly, the Equal Rights Amendment in the US never became law. It was passed in 1972 by Congress as a proposed amendment to the US Constitution, but it did not get the necessary super majority of state legislatures to ratify it by the 1979 deadline. There would have been other avenues for people to challenge state practices forcing a woman to change her name, but the ERA never became law.

I was an academic when I got married so in some ways that made it easier and more expected. But I do remember that when another female colleague got married at the same time and we both kept our names, some of our male colleagues were surprised and commented.

UptoapointLordCopper · 01/11/2014 15:21

Interesting article.

I have often wonder who it is who votes against equality. For example, this was recently pointed out to me: In the Swiss women's suffrage movement - "1985 Referendum on a revision of the Civil Code: Equal rights for men and women in the family are accepted with 921,743 yes vs. 762,619 no votes". Who are these 762 619 people? What are they thinking?

FibonacciSeries · 01/11/2014 15:55

Hello. I've name changed because I've put way more information than I should have on MN about my private life. But I still want to be here.

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 01/11/2014 16:04

Hi Fib. Whoever you are. Grin

FibonacciSeries · 01/11/2014 16:09

Grin paranoid! I'm paranoid!

OutsSelf · 01/11/2014 16:10

I like that article! Might start signing myself Outs Self (only)

OublietteBravo · 01/11/2014 16:12

I enjoyed the article too. I kept my name - in fact, if DH had insisted on me changing it, I think this might have been a deal breaker Grin
