Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Do you think society (and actually feminist quite a lot) are conspiring to gas light women?

We constantly tell women they shouldn't be afraid of men, but actually they're dangerous. I would not leave my children with a man other than my husband, I don't tell people that but it's true. I trust my husband but even then... I'm always aware what the statistics say. I know what has happened to me, what has happened to friends. Maybe instead of laughing at women for "seeing rapist and pedophiles around every corner" we should accept that men are dangerous and that if men were a another species of animal you'd tell women to stay the fuck away from it. It's dangerous.

Larry, I couldn't possibly have taught my DSs anything at all, I am such an old silly about that sort of thing. I leave all moral values teaching to my DH and wider society. And people like you.

Of course you're right, I bow to your manly knowing of things. How could I have doubted your abilities.

I'm sure your reading of what other women have written is the correct interpretation, you have such a knack of being able to understand what we're REALLY saying underneath all our silly facts, figures and experiences.

Yes men create most of the GDP and pocket most of it. And women are more likely to do dangerous low paid labor for men. What's your point Larry?

It's just, you're kind of making yourself look like a twat.

Buffy,

Not stupid at all, in fact mostly very bright. You know i respect your intellect and work ethic. doing a phd at the same tome as bribging hp a child is a HUGE acjievement. However, as you say, this group has a particular world view and an amazing cognitive dissonance relating to anything positive about men.

I mean, seriously, men 'a dangerous species of animal'?! We are the same species as you. You CHOOSE to mate with us, live with us, love your male progeny. How do you square this with the OP?

What kind of debate on anything could you have if you only considered negatives?

WhatWitchcraftIsThis · 06/09/2014 10:46

in fact mostly very bright

Yikes.

You CHOOSE to mate with us, live with us, love your male progeny. How do you square this with the OP?

Interesting point considering millions of women around the world don't actually choose this option it is chosen for them.

But BILLIONS do...

scallopsrgreat · 06/09/2014 10:48

an amazing cognitive dissonance relating to anything positive about men. Do you actually understand what cognitive dissonance is?

Women are socialised to think that men are worthy, men are wonderful, to respect & please men. Stepping out of that conditioning is not cognitive dissonance. It is the opposite.

larrygrylls · 06/09/2014 10:49

If this were a 'vaccination' thread, it would be like discussing vaccines without mentioning immunisation. Painful, occasionally make you ill, very very rarely can kill you. Who wants that after all?

Billions are heterosexual and can't help their sexuality and their social conditioning. I'm not going to argue about it because you have an agenda and you aren't going to change your mind (or even read the thread) and you just want all the women to rehash what they have already said intelligently (including the car analogy)

Police recorded 1033 homicides in 2010-12. If 90% of those were done by men shouldn't that upset you more than a woman saying being scared of men isn't a ridiculous thing to be?

WhatWitchcraftIsThis · 06/09/2014 10:57

vaccination analogy already used too. Maybe read the thread clever man type?

Actually maybe billions don't choose it.

^Early and forced marriage is a tragic reality faced by 14 million girls around the globe every year
1 in 3 girls in the developing world are married by their 18th birthday. This can end their chance of completing an education and puts them at greater risk of isolation and violence.
For girls under 15 the incidence of early and forced marriage is 1 in 7. Some are married as young as five years old.
Victims of early and forced marriage typically have children very young. Approximately 70,000 girls die in labour every year because their bodies aren’t ready for childbirth^

Those women dying because of low GDP they are dying because they had unhealthy young pregnancies by rape.

larrygrylls · 06/09/2014 11:13

What.

Seriously, women are 'victims' of their sexuality? If hormones make them victims, that argument can also be made for men. You are questioning our entire nature as a species . Until we give up our bodies and get wired to a computer, men and women will continue to choose to live together.

CaptChaos · 06/09/2014 11:14

so, still not RTFT then.

No clue why anyone continues to waste their time with you.

scallopsrgreat · 06/09/2014 11:17

"Approximately 70,000 girls die in labour every year because their bodies aren’t ready for childbirth" Fucking hell. That's just awful Sad.

Yeah cognitive dissonance is exactly what we are suffering from.

FuckOffWeasel · 06/09/2014 11:24

I'm actually kind of glad dad and larry popped up here as it kind of proves the point that even with faced with facts and fucking horrible statistics it's just less scary for men to pop their head up and go NOT ALL MEN! (or not all dads!) Seriously, That's what they worry about.

CaptChaos · 06/09/2014 11:31

I get your point Weasel. I think I'd feel differently if, when shown facts, figures, papers, presented by people who know their topic, they didn't just fall back on their, 'well, I'm a man and I don't do that so no men do that' whataboutery. They seem to be relatively intelligent, and yet completely unable to see past their own privilege.

PetulaGordino · 06/09/2014 12:00

It is a perfect example though of how women are only worthy of respect if they are mothering+working+gaining qualifications. Men don't seem to need to prove themselves in that way for their opinions to be respected

(Absolutely no disrespect to you buffy, you are amazing, but I would think you were even if you weren't doing all those things)

scallopsrgreat · 06/09/2014 12:10

Yep the old earning respect thing. Tends to be rolled out by those with more privilege than those required to do the earning.

But my point is, it's clear they do not respect me, despite what they say about my achievements

Yes, and actually quite funny that they think that if they say the words "I respect you" then you won't notice that they clearly think you're pretty dumb.
