22 yo man murders 7 people as revenge for women not sleeping with him.

"Why are girls sexually attracted to obnoxious, brutish men instead of sophisticated gentlemen such as myself?"

it's something like 1 out of 3 or 4 women in university get sexually assaulted isn't it? Considering what a short period uni is that's insane. Worse than in the general population .

I mentioned before, some time last year, that my then 19-year old cousin (I'll call her Anne) had chosen to transfer out of her college due to their handling of a report of rape she made. In her case, the rapist was a "star athlete", and student athletes here in the States (whether it be college or high school) are often treated like gods. Especially when they're (American) football players (as was the case with Steubenville).

In Anne's case, her rapist was not a football player, but he did play the sport that was (well still is) the second highest money spinner for the college.

The college is Boston University, which I'm happy to name now, as it's now in the public domain. Back when I first mentioned it, it hadn't then gone public, so I didn't feel comfortable naming it.

Anyway, the fact that Anne had reported Mr Star Athlete became widely known (even at a college as big as BU), and rather than people turning against him, they turned against her. She had insults thrown at her, people SPAT at her, and she basically became a victim second time around.

Anne decided the best thing to do, was to transfer out, and attend college far away from Boston (which is her home city).

In a bitter and cruel twist of fate, the college she started at in Fall 2013, was University of California Santa Barbara, the very college the six of the victims of this tragedy were students at.

My daughters are 4 and almost a year-old, college is a long way off for them, and I just hope things are better for them when the time comes.

The really horrific thing is, Anne isn't alone, what happened to her has almost certainly happened on campuses across the country.

I remember her telling me, the main reason people wouldn't believe that Mr Star Athlete had raped her, was because in their view there were hundreds of girls who wanted to sleep with him, so why would he need to rape anyone.

It never crossed their minds, that he wanted my cousin, who wasn't interested in him. In his mind, no-one said no to him, and he proved his point.

A high profile example of how these star athletes get away with it, is that of Florida State football player Jameis Winston, the original report was made in December 2012. In February 2013, Tallahassee P.D. tagged the file as open but inactive. It wasn't until November 2013 that the State Attorney's opened an investigation into Winston. He was never charged though.

In December 2013, Winston went on to win the Heisman Trophy, the most prestigious trophy a college football player can win.

In April 2014, the New York Times did a brilliant exposé on the case; A Star Player Accused, and a Flawed Rape Investigation.

Jameis Winston will almost certainly enter the NFL draft, either in 2015 or 2016, he will be a first round pick. He'll probably go on and earn millions of dollars per year.

It all stinks.

Brilliant derailment on this thread (slow hand clap - you know who you are)

This man was a symptom not an aberration or a one off. Thé personnification of an attitude that seems to be doing the rounds on some parts of the internet of power moving too much into womens hands. The power to actually say no? How dare they?

I spent a 7 hour journey from Scotland reading this, and it has finally persuaded me of the Need for a hide poster button (though you would also have to hide them so that I didn't read your replies and think wtaf)

I believe them. I wish for the rest of society to believe them

We have had a few Pick Up Artists on here since the Rodger massacre. They are quite obvious. It will take a while for MNHQ to get with the programme, I think.

I don't understand this - why do they come to this site after the massacre? What are they trying to achieve?

Same reason the MRA's come. To wind up the uptight mummies... it is sport for them. Their pedantic posturing incenses us so we react. < just as guilty of this as anyone >

Jezebel articles are excellent at saying it how it is. No punches pulled. And why should we ? This stuff is real, not the figment of feverish, over stimulated dungaree wearing hairy middle aged women.

Tess, it is truly awful, isn't it.

It makes you wonder about people you've met, people you know, who might say slightly odd things sometimes.

I had lunch with friends today, one of them brought a colleague from work, and when discussion turned to UCSB attacks this colleague said, (paraphrasing here) "I don't understand all the fuss people are making, about his so-called hated of women, like he's going to inspire a new movement. He's a lone ranger, this was a one-off, there isn't going to be an army of others waiting in the wings."

I challenged otherwise, but she dismissed my comments as "exaggeration".

I will e-mail the article to my friend, and encourage her to send it on to her colleague, it may open her eyes.
