Apologies if there has already been a thread on this.

Bj strap

I actually don't know what to say about this.

This thread is years old and inactive. If you've found this page in search of Ann Summers products that have been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best Ann Summers sex toys useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ 💐

"'Sex becomes something to consume, rather than to discover."

Yup to this too.

McSex is good.

Sakura is also good on this subject, she posts very eloquently about how finding out what you like, with your peers, on your own terms and without loads of "suggestions" from the commercial sector, is simply marvellous Smile

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 21/03/2012 20:54

My 16 year old niece has been in Ann Summers. Blush

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 20:55

I used to go to the local bookshop when I was 16 with my boyfriend and sit on the floor and look at the joy of sex with him

Dworkin · 21/03/2012 20:56

ffs corrupt. Stereotypes much?

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 20:56

So yes I'd have been in anne summers perusing the bj straps with interest. Not as much interest as my boyfriend, I suspect...

Starwisher · 21/03/2012 20:56

How did your niece feel about the experience corrupt.

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 21/03/2012 20:57

I also went into a sex shop at 16. I bought my first vibrator.

She was my first known feminist.

Starwisher · 21/03/2012 20:57

I didnt even kiss anyone till 16!

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 20:58

I don't think that not for sale on the high street = disgusting.

People are pretty relaxed about people doing whatever they want in private but still don't want to see it on the high street. FGS I want pg 3 got rid of. hardly going to give a big "yay" to BJ strap demos in boots.

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 21/03/2012 20:58

I think she found it "an experience". I was banned from telling her mother, if that says anything.

Starwisher · 21/03/2012 20:58

Sardine and corrupt you were braver than me

I wouldnt even go in now!

Starwisher · 21/03/2012 21:00

To fair though sardine, boots is not fair game but Ann summers does trade in sex....

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 21/03/2012 21:00

I go in regularly. :o

I wasn't aware they were giving demonstrations of this. Not for sale on the high street due to pressure to get rid of it because it is nasty = disgusting.

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 21/03/2012 21:01

Ann Summers is hardly a family shop. You can't buy buggies or baby formula at Ann Summers.

Beachcomber · 21/03/2012 21:01

LadyBeagleEyes, The Women's Room is a life changing book. Not bad for a work of fiction written by a woman in a god-damn patriarchy about patriarchy.

I love that book. Feminist consciousness raising at its best. Well done that woman, I'm still surprised sometimes that it was ever published. The one that got away.

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 21:02

Not for sale on high street = INAPPROPRIATE not disgusting

Boots sell lube and those ring things now so you never know... OK I exaggerated but that is the crux of my difficulty with it

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 21/03/2012 21:03

Boots sell cock rings? I was unaware of this. goes to Boots website

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 21:05

I suppose I feel fundamentally that sex is something private. If people want to go to a swinging club that's fine but if they're all at in on the park over the road not so. If people want to purchase paraphernalia related to whatever it might be then fine but it doesn't need to be in a shop window. If a bloke wants to look at a porn mag that's up to him but do it at home not on the tube. That sort of thing.

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 21/03/2012 21:05

Ooh, you mean the 30% more powerfuk vibrating ring. How is that inappropriate?

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 21/03/2012 21:06

But the difference between the park and the swinging club is that children play in the park. Nobody is suggesting that children go into Ann Summers and be shown how a bj strap works.

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 21:07

It's not inappropriate.

Japanese bondage ropes, BJ straps or auto-erotic asphyxiation equipment would be.

Mind you there was a big hoo-ha when they started selling them, a lot of people were upset. So maybe they would be best off kept to internet retailers as well.

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 21:08

Blimey whisky I was imagining they'd be doing it in the evening!!!! Not while there were children there!!!

WidowWadman · 21/03/2012 21:08

SQ - do you think it's wrong that Boots sell lube? I for one am glad that I can pick it up with normal shopping and don't have to go and find a specialist shop.

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 21:10

Me personally? No, and cock rings and excitingly flavoured condoms are fine by me too.

But I just remembered that when they started selling the rings there was a lot of complaint so I need to take into account that what is fine by me is not fine for others, and consider their feelings.

SardineQueen · 21/03/2012 21:10

It's a "where do you draw the line" question, isn't it.
