www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/8178285/Mick-Hucknall-apologises-to-1000-women-he-slept-with.html

The way I am reading this is he is that firstly he is sorry for being unfaithful to whoever he was with at the time - ok I get that.

But I am finding this a little creepy on other levels because I think if you apologise to your groupies, it implies you think you were taking advantage of them at the time? Or is it that he misled them all into thinking they were his only partner (at a rate of 3 a day, that'd be hard to do).

(please MN lawyers note I am not saying that Mick Hucknall has done anything wrong...)

DP reckons I am overthinking this which is quite possible Grin

Does he clarify anywhere exactly what he's "apologising" for?

I just don't understand it. Surely there's not enough beer in the world...

Notevenamouse · 03/12/2010 13:33

I don't believe him, I mean who would, hes a total minger.

Notevenamouse · 03/12/2010 13:34

I'm ginger as well and so are my kids, its nothing to do with it, he is foul ginger or otherwise.

TeiTetua · 03/12/2010 13:42

You can look at this from various sides--here's a guy who made heaps of money and was surrounded by fans. How many women wanted to have sex with him and how many just wanted to be noticed, and then couldn't say no when he made it sexual? How many would have made the bargain of being noticed if they knew they'd have to have sex with him? Still a lot, probably.

But now he's married and has a little girl of his own. Perhaps he's got new ideas about what relations between women and men ought to be like.

But it's so male to be mentioning numbers. If he's genuinely remorseful he could have said it in a way that didn't sound like boasting.

Notevenamouse · 03/12/2010 13:45

If he was genuinely remorseful he would have had the good grace to have kept it to himself.

HerBeatitude · 03/12/2010 13:47

ooh quick, they're discussing it on Jeremy Vine now - Radio 2

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 03/12/2010 13:48

Bugger. Am nowhere near a radio.

Could you give a synopsis in a bit, Beatitude?

HerBeatitude · 03/12/2010 13:49

Wll do!

expatinscotland · 03/12/2010 13:50

He's a total minger. Bet his number is more like 10, all of whom were whacked out of their minds at the time.

MadreInglese · 03/12/2010 13:51

Didn't Martine McCutcheon throw up on him on a date?

(natural reflex reaction for most women I would imagine)

iTigress · 03/12/2010 13:53

Why is he sorry? Confused

I was promiscuous when younger, I don't have any regrets overall - met lots and lots of lovely men who I wanted to have sex with - the feeling was mutual - ergo we did. Lovely times

If I apologised publicly to all the men I slept with, the insinuation is that I had taken advantage if, or hurt them. I'm not big-headed enough to think I broke anyone's heart, sex is sex FFS.

He's showing a disgustingly patriarchal attitude by assuming the women he slept with were somehow damaged by the experience. Perhaps they were Mick, just not in the way you'd like to think Xmas Grin

HerBeatitude · 03/12/2010 13:53

So far, the "expert" has said because he ddn't have a role model of a woman, he needed to have every woman going. Hmm

And also famous people lose sense of reality. (cf Elton John saying "somebody turn the wind down" - surely that's not true? I was only half listening)

MadreInglese · 03/12/2010 13:55

I wonder if there was a nasty "shag and run" story about to be kiss-and-told in the papers, perhaps coinciding with some greatest hits album release of his, so this 'apology' could be damage limitation

HerBeatitude · 03/12/2010 13:55

God I think all the men I slept with in my dim and distant youth, should be bloody thanking me - I've got nothing to apologise for, I didn't abuse or mislead any of them. What was he doing wrong?

iTigress · 03/12/2010 13:56

Is there something fundamentally wrong with shagging around? I couldn't care less Mick and certainly don't want to hear about it from you

iTigress · 03/12/2010 13:57

HerB Grin

iTigress · 03/12/2010 14:01

I'm going to take a massive leap and suggest he's a women-hater (or was)

You can shag someone because you like and fancy each other, or you can shag someone because you are using them and it makes you feel like you've won - you probably can't stand them. Men (imo) are more likely to have this kind of sex, luckily I think I've avoided this kind of wanker, who is a millimetre higher on the morality scale than a rapist.

HerBeatitude · 03/12/2010 14:02

OK some mad bint came on and said he came on to her, she turned him down and now regrets it as he is sex on legs.

Was too flabbergasted to assimilate any more info. Grin

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 03/12/2010 14:06

iTigress I think you're on to something there.

I shared my favours with a few of those though. Not great, really.

I rather like redheaded men - so this isn't a dig at gingerness, but Shock at sex on legs!

Oh, thank you for sharing, Beatitude :)

He really is a twat, isn't he.

HerBeatitude · 03/12/2010 14:14

Yes quite.

The only reason he can have to apologise, is because the sex was bad and he treated these women without kindness, respect or consideration.

Otherwise, why the need to apologise? There's nothing wrong with casual sex. It's only wrong if you do it badly, or if you mislead someone as to your intentions, or both.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 03/12/2010 14:46

Haven't read thread yet but - quite right too! Anyone who sleeps with that whiny skank-haired smug talentless gobshite deserves compensation, frankly Xmas Grin.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 03/12/2010 14:47

Ah I see tethers got there first. :)
