www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/8178285/Mick-Hucknall-apologises-to-1000-women-he-slept-with.html

The way I am reading this is he is that firstly he is sorry for being unfaithful to whoever he was with at the time - ok I get that.

But I am finding this a little creepy on other levels because I think if you apologise to your groupies, it implies you think you were taking advantage of them at the time? Or is it that he misled them all into thinking they were his only partner (at a rate of 3 a day, that'd be hard to do).

(please MN lawyers note I am not saying that Mick Hucknall has done anything wrong...)

DP reckons I am overthinking this which is quite possible Grin

We need to know how many MNers he's shagged.

We're the right age group.

Beachcomber · 03/12/2010 11:39

TBH I've never really understood why he is so vilified.

Is it because he is ginger and considered to not be very good looking?

There are loads of pop stars out there who bedded lots of women and have big egos - why does he come in for so much bile?

I can take or or leave him personally, along with the majority of 80s musicians.

GoldenGreen · 03/12/2010 11:40

you are quite right Beachcomber Blush

the reason I started the thread here rather than sleb twaddle was that I was curious as to why a man would need to apologise for having consensual sex with a woman - I think AliceWorld has possibly explained what was really going on and it is just his massive ego at play here

Me neither, Beach.

But I still want to know how many MNers have shagged him Xmas Grin

hobbgoblin · 03/12/2010 11:40

mners are a classy lot though JMTFC...

BustleInYourHedgerow · 03/12/2010 11:41

I'd be surprised if 1,000 drunk people wanted to sleep with Mick Hucknall.

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 03/12/2010 11:42

Well they might be classy now, but how classy were they 10 or 20 years ago?

I am not remotely classy. And I probably would have shagged him if the opportunity had arisen, just to say I had. I was free with my favours back then.

Hassledge · 03/12/2010 11:43

Yes, someone on MN must have slept with him. It's demographics, innit?

The only reason he needs to apologise is if he feels he took advantage in some way, which is all a bit yuck. The fact he's put this thought in our heads now makes me think they didn't really think this publicity stunt through.

Beachcomber · 03/12/2010 11:46

I don't have an issue with the thread, nor it being in the feminist topic.

I just don't like the ginger/ugly stuff. There is a more interesting discussion to be had surely?

Mick Hucknell's young cousin committed suicide because of bullying apparently.

news.scotsman.com/uk/Tragedy-of-Mick-Hucknall39s-cousin.6546183.jp

Not that that has anything to do with Hucknell's behaviour, but it makes me uncomfortable with the ginger comments. (I'm not saying the bullying was ginger related)

Wrong to eeew at his hair colour and his looks imo. He is apologising because he had sex with women and then didn't have the decency to speak to them again which is very terriby disrespectful, I can understand him apologising now he has grown up.

Not many women would feel good about themselves in that situation and sounds like he knows what I tosser he was back then.

GreenButton · 03/12/2010 11:52

I don't get why people have such a hatred of ginger-haired people (I used to dye my hair that colour in my youth), and I think Mick Hucknall has sung some great songs, I just don't like the rock-star shaggeirness of it all.

Yes enough with the anti-gingering thanks.

Pennies · 03/12/2010 11:56

Mick Hucknall, for example, is a twat.

bintofbohemia · 03/12/2010 11:56

dittany - what?! Shock

AllarmBelly · 03/12/2010 12:00

Sorry my previous post was meant to follow on from Beachcombers to hilarious effect Blush

IMO it's egomania gone mad. He "hurt some really good girls"? So "some" (his word) of these women, who were one of three a day he shagged, were gutted and devastated by him not calling them back? Because of course they were looking for marriage, babies and the opportunity to knit him some socks. They weren't just out there being as promiscuous as him.

He wants to remind the "world" that even though he's now settled down and grown up, he used to be a shagger. Er, congratulations on that Mick Hmm If you'd really grown up you wouldn't need to remind us.

LOL at "they know who they are". Perhaps Wikileaks has a list of names.

AliceWorld · 03/12/2010 12:06

But why is it assumed it is disrespectful to sleep with women and not speak to them afterwards. That is rooted in the notion that women are only interested in meaningful, romantic sex, that might lead to a relationship, because what they desire in life is the love and protection of a good man Hmm

Maybe they just wanted to shag someone famous...

The idea that he needs to apologise to these women en masse is hugely sexist. Perhaps he needs to apologise to individual women who did mislead, but them all??

Imagine if the story was [insert name of hetero female celebrity] would like to apologise to the men she has slept with as non-committal shags. People would just laugh, suggesting that the men got what they wanted, why would they want anything more etc. But because it's women the assumption is that isn't what they wanted.

AliceWorld · 03/12/2010 12:08

x-post. Great minds eh Wink

GoldenGreen · 03/12/2010 12:08

AliceWorld - absolutely, if it were Madonna for example, everyone would be laughing

whiteliesaregoodlies · 03/12/2010 12:12

dittany - I've heard something very off about this person too from a reliable source. Wonder if it's the same thing.

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 03/12/2010 12:14

I was thinking about that.

Are there any female slebs known for shagging around? I actually can't think of any.

I think I'd have been dreadfully free with my favours if I'd been in a band.

christmaseve · 03/12/2010 12:16

Well perhaps most of them weren't that bothered anyway whether they spoke to him again or not. I personally don't like being ignored after I've slept with someone Smile.

lifeinlimbo · 03/12/2010 12:26

Yes maybe the girls were embarassed about it and didnt answer his calls. I would be. Doesnt sound like many went back for seconds, haha. Poor mick, hes only just thought of a way to turn this around.

tethersjinglebellend · 03/12/2010 12:58

If it helps, I am ginger, and still think Mick Hucknall is an odious cretin.
