Why is practically every human society across all times, places and cultures dominated by men?
I have read that War on Women article that MillyR linked to. It's chilling. Why is it everywhere?

I would be interested in your thoughts, or maybe there is actually a simple, widely accepted answer that I could be pointed to.

Wukter;

I have given your thread alot of my time, time I don't really have, (I'm very busy)...the least you can do is be respectful of my opinions.

I maintain that the feminist movement has achieved nothing that wouldn't have been achieved anyway...(anything of significance)

Women now feel ashamed if they give up careers to stay at home and look after their own children, that is what feminists have done, they have tried to defeminize women, they want sahm to feel like they aren't using their brains, letting the side down and all that bollox. they want to turn us into men...slaves to a job, slaves to a ridulous idea that we can "have it all" ... we can't. Women are more depressed than ever, which is obvious really as they're trying to be everything to everyone. Young babies are dumped in nurseries so women can get back to work asap and juggle their lives to the point of exhaustion...is that freedom?

The amount of single mothers has increased massively, and with that comes all the problems associated with children being brought up without a father (and they are well documented) you are responsible for those problems. you don't think men are necessary for anything...I honestly think you hate them (not you personally)

I hope you're happy slogging your guts out working, bringing up kids, and still doing most of the housework....because that's the reality for most women today.

Y'see, not all women are white, middleclass, feminists who can sit around telling the rest of us how to live our lives and how to think.....most of us live in the real world.

And with regards to you introducing education (lol) I think you'll find that working class boys weren't educated either

Aitch · 01/08/2010 23:25

is that you off back to music then? byee.

daftpunk · 01/08/2010 23:27

To sum up...

You know where you can stick your feminist agenda...

bye, dp, my nazi chum.

wukter · 01/08/2010 23:45

I live in the real world DP.
I believe that feminism is about not focusing on gender in all arenas of life, but placing it where it matters, in matters of sexuality, reproduction and childcare. Those things matter, those things are gender specific, those things are neccessary, but they don't define all that is female - or male. It's only society that places every aspect of life into a binary, unneccessary and harmful to all humans, but especially women and girls. None of the 'problems' you state above are beyond the wit of people to solve.

You may have given my thread some time - no one forced you to, not even your husband - but you have taken it wildly off topic. I have never really 'spoke' to you before so I give you the benefit of the doubt.

daftpunk · 01/08/2010 23:54

it's ok wukter....and i'm sorry if I took your thread wildly off topic.

I'm just passionate about children being brought up by two parents...and I think feminisn has destroyed that ideal...It shouldn't have taken me 20 posts to say that...

Anyway...it's been good talking to you

hobbgoblin · 01/08/2010 23:59

2 hetero white parents, yes?

daftpunk · 02/08/2010 00:07

ha ha ha

I need to sleep...

g'night

To clarify, Lamarr didn't invent the moble phone. About 70 years ago, she created necessary communications theory and technology that allows moble phones to work.

PrincessFiorimonde · 02/08/2010 00:53

Yes of course we should consider a painter such as Mary Cassatt, or a playwright such as Aphra Behn, or scientists such as Ada Lovelace and Marie Curie, or writers such as Austen and the Brontes. Surely the point is that those women were exceptions in their time (and acknowledged as such) and we have to understand why they were exceptions. All power to them. And, of course, to all women who have made and continue to make contributions to the sum total of human knowledge, whether or not they have been acknowledged for doing so.

But with regard to the point of this thread (the roots of misogyny), I am much more interested in the points that SwallowedaFly, MillyR, etc. make upthread. And I hope you will continue the debate.

wukter · 02/08/2010 02:45

Yes, PrincessFiorimonde, SAF and MillyR have been very informative. No need for all this messing.

Ahh, Wukter, am I just a tad impatient? (Can't do the grin emoticon; hate it; looks like a grinning skull to me.)
