Background: 8 weeks post parting. PPH losing 1.4 litres of blood after delivery. Theatre sorted it. Bleeding non stop until I had Implanon at 4 weeks PP and a week later started Cerelle to curb the bleeding. Bleeding stopped for a week. Came back last night.

Just passed this >> see photo

What the actual fuck is it? It's like raw meat, not bloody and just laying there on the pad. It's about an inch long and 2cm or so thick. Waiting on out of hours GP to call me back but any ideas? I'm 30, third child and I've never experienced anything like this.

I can get to the regular GP Monday and referred to gynae while I'm there. Unsure how long an appointment will take there.

Husband is currently out of the country for work so it's just me and the babies. Have no family or friends local to help out and I'm really nervous about taking baby into A&E and as she's not had her vaccinations yet. DH will be home tomorrow afternoon (short haul).

I would say retained placenta. Give 111 a phone because that shouldn't have happened.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/10/2018 18:09

If it’s retained placenta I wouldn’t wait

Maelstrop · 13/10/2018 18:09

Reported why? Bit fucking precious.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/10/2018 18:09

I’d go tomorrow when hubby gets back

DoulaDaisy · 13/10/2018 18:12

It's a piece of placenta OP, please go and get checked out at A&E

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 13/10/2018 18:13

I had retained products after a badly managed miscarriage. Don’t want to alarm the OP but I ended up in a very bad way. PLEASE get seen....what I was passing didn’t smell either but I had a very bad infection and it had lasting repercussions.

TatianaLarina · 13/10/2018 18:13

I think you need an ultrasound ASAP to look for more fragments of retained placenta.

I don’t know about your area but in mine emergency ultrasound appts are 2 weeks wait.

Realistically to have an ultrasound within a reasonable timeframe you may well end up having to go to A and E.

Call 111 and see what they say.

alwaysontimeneverlate · 13/10/2018 18:14

Where in the country are you op? Wondering if I can help with lifts?

TatianaLarina · 13/10/2018 18:15

And if you develop any fever - high or low, chills, sweating, breathless, fast heart rate, confusion you need to go to A&E straight away.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/10/2018 18:15

Tbh I doubt they’d do a two week wait in this case as there’s already a chance they can get their arse sued.

catsinstrangeplaces · 13/10/2018 18:16

Placenta,
I had weird bleeding after dc3 and after a really long day at a family thing at 4 weeks got home and passed similar.
It was v meaty looking.

Went to see gp, googled (dick move) and worried
Then stopped bleeding.

All the weird bleeding was my body saying it's not all over yet I guess,
Checked for my temp and said if I noticed a smell or had pain to go to hospital but it was fine after that.

Dazedandconfused1988 · 13/10/2018 18:16

I second alwaysontimeneverlate. I can drive anywhere south or west of Bristol if you’re desperate x

NicoAndTheNiners · 13/10/2018 18:21

Thing is if it’s a bit of placenta and the only bit and now it’s out then everything should probably be fine.

The danger is if there’s possibly (small chance) of another bit still in situ. You could do with a scan.

flojo73 · 13/10/2018 18:23

Didn't want to zoom in too closely... but could it be a swab?

onefootinthegrave · 13/10/2018 18:25

I can understand why you're concerned about taking DC to A&E without her having had her vaccs yet, and normally I would suggest waiting until tomorrow when DH is back. But as PP's have told you they passed similar and you need to get it checked ASAP I'd listen to them. Were you given an idea of how long it will take for the OOH doc to call you? If it's more than a few hours I'd call 111.

I'm sure you will be fine but really, better safe than sorry. Good luck!

wineandwhine · 13/10/2018 18:33

Don't think it could be a swab. As in, something they put up you and stayed in there?

M3lon · 13/10/2018 18:36

Nice one OP! The worst I had was what looked like chunks of liver, which I was informed were actually huge clots. I then came down with repeated fever and eventually had to get retained products removed.

Would treat seriously just in case.

M3lon · 13/10/2018 18:37

In the case of PPH they sometimes just pack you full of gauze...horrible getting it all back out again...it could be something like that - but it doesn't really look like it from the photo.

TwoGinScentedTears · 13/10/2018 18:37

If you've had a PPH they use pieces of gauze to mop up as they go. I think that's what pp meant about swab.

Solasum · 13/10/2018 18:39

I really think you should go to A&E

TomHardysNextWife · 13/10/2018 18:40

I'd phone 111 and get their professional advice.

I had a massive PPH 4 weeks after my 2nd baby and it was terrifying. I wouldn't take a chance to be on the safe side.

ButtonMoonLoon · 13/10/2018 18:41

Gawd, go to A&E - please!

Do you have anybody you can ask for a lift? If not, feel free to message me your location or post it here if you feel okay to. I’d certainly be happy to take you if you’re anywhere close and I know lots of other posters would say the same.....

SecretWitch · 13/10/2018 18:42

Cannot understand why this needs a warning or has been reported. I think it may also be a bit of placenta, op. I had retained bits after birth of first child. I will say though, I had low grade fever and discharge took on a definite odour. Take care of yourself.

wineandwhine · 13/10/2018 18:44

OOH called back and said as I have no severe bleeding (it's very light and brown now), a normal temperature of 36.1, no other symptoms and no more loss to wait until Monday to see the GP. If for any reason I become dizzy, have a temperature, get chills, lose consciousness or the bleeding begins again and it's red, go straight to A&E.

Rang 111 straight after and they corroborated the advice. Said after nearly 8 weeks if it was retained placenta I would be showing symptoms so not to worry too much and to get some rest but if anything gets worse at all or I feel unwell to get straight to A&E.

Bloody pencilled in sex with DH for tomorrow and all. Sod's law WinkConfused
