Mis-casting: Which actor did you feel did NOT best represent the book character?

Mine are:

Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart
Winona Ryder as Jo from Little Women ( she did a nice job but I wouldn't have cast her!)

that dude who played Edward Rochester in the latest version of Jane Eyre. uh uh.

blue eyes and handsome.

MAd eye moody shoulda been Billy Connolly

Any part Jude Law has played shoulda been given to an actor instead.

Roger Moore and daniel Craig as bond.

sooooo wrong.

Kevin Spacey as Quoyle in The Shipping News (not clumsy, or overweight, or shy, or socially inept enough - by a long way).

No idea who it should have been - Gordon Brown might have worked quite well.

Gordon Brown for Mr Rochester too.

But then of course Gordon is Heathcliffe.

Oh yes, Sean Astin as Sam Gamgee.

The hobbits were all miscast. Frodo much to young. Merry and Pippin much too suilly.

God yes to Jude Law.

Horrible in Cold Mountain.

But then so was Nicole Kidman.

Perhaps Boris Johnson and Margaret Hodge?

I thought Branagh was perfect as Lockhart (and I normally hate him!).

Billy Piper as Fanny Price was the most ridiculous mis-casting I have ever seen.

Think might go to bed and re-cast films with fools politicians.

Ooh snap!...I was about to post the Billy Piper/Fanny one. That was bizarre.

Tony Blair for Gilderoy, obv.

Renee Zellwegger looks German, is American and gets English parts.

I thought Hugh Grant should have been Lockhart.

John Thaw (God bless him) as Peter Mayle in Year in Provence - one of the worst adaptions of a book ever seen.....

Then there was Nicholas Cage in Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

But that whole film was arsetastic.

That should be 'A Year in Provence'

Yes Threadwworm - the perfect choice for deceit and toadying and all round slimyness.

Hazel Blears for watserface that makes Harry write lines on his arm.

Aaron Eckhart as Roland Mitchell in the film of Possession by AS Byatt......just so different from the Roland in the book, physically as well as overall demeanour and character.
