Mine are:

Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart
Winona Ryder as Jo from Little Women ( she did a nice job but I wouldn't have cast her!)

OP posts:

Jim Carrey in A Series of Unfortunate Events! So so wrong!!

Lotster · 05/01/2010 17:14

hurrah!

Kaloki · 05/01/2010 17:17

@ Lotster

radstar · 13/01/2010 21:13

Op - I agree about Winona Ryder in Little Women, just didn't quite cut it. Neither did;

KK in P&P nor the Darcy
Tom Hanks in Da vinci code

I think I agree about the new Dumbledore, the first one was just about how I imagined him I think, it's ages since I've seen it.

Didn't realise there had been a film of The Dark is Rising, just been reading about it, OMG what have they done? I loved that book.

Does anyone remember the BBC Lion witch and wardrobe? The Lucy was awful nothing like she should be. In fact looking back they all were probably but I loved that at the time.

Rob Pattinson as Edward Cullen in Twilight. Edward is supposed to be absolutely stunningly beautiful and RP is not, although he is good looking. Also Edward was supposed to have a cheeky sense of humour which RP didn't portray at all.

Bettymum · 14/01/2010 14:51

Richard O'Brien should have been Snape. It's how I always pictured him in my head reading the books. Alan Rickman too clean and glossy-haired.

lollipopmother · 17/01/2010 22:07

Emma Watson as Hermioneeee is awful, they gave her frizzy-ish hair in the first but by the third she's got massive styled curls - wtf?!

I have always thought of Sean Bean as Sirus, can't stand the chap who played him in the third and refused to watch any of the others because Prisoner of Azkaban was changed so much from the book that I can't see any of it making sense when it gets to the end of the series.

RPatt as Edward Cullen is wrong but to be fair no one is going to be as gorgeous as he is portrayed in the books, although I seem to imagine him to look a bit like Ryan Phillippe for some reason! I've just seen some pics of RPatt in the Twilight discussion though and he's seriously hot so maybe I'll have to watch New Moon with more of an open mind!

MattBellamysMuse · 17/01/2010 22:55

He looks loads better in New Moon but still not a patch on book Edward.

lollipopmother · 18/01/2010 14:24

Having just re-watched part of Twilight (I saw it before I read the books last time) I can see that the miscasting of the centuary has got to be the woman that plays Rosalie - in the books she's supposed to be the most stunning woman alive - errrrm, the acrtess is not too far short of a complete dog!

MattBellamysMuse · 18/01/2010 19:29

I wouldn't go that far, she's reasonably attractive but not nearly stunning enough to be Rosalie. Alice was well cast though. She's really beautiful, especially in New Moon.

Claire236 · 18/01/2010 20:24

Read somewhere the other day that Angelina Jolie is going to play Kay Scarpetta which has got to be the worst casting ever.

Hate Renee Zellweger - her Bridget Jones was shocking

All the casting in Interview With a Vampire was awful. Love the book, was gutted by the film. I heard Ann Rice ended up having nothing to do with the film because she hated what they were doing to her book so much.

Shiver · 18/01/2010 20:28

Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka in Charlie and the chocolate factory. Absolutely awful and about 25 years too young.

MavisEnderby · 18/01/2010 20:31

I am still disatisfied with both of the actors that played Rebus. The first one (skinny Scottish bloke that was in 4 weddings) was too young and Ken Stott wasn't attractive enough to play the Rebus that inhabits my head (Sorry,Ken)

mrsruffallo · 18/01/2010 20:31

I can't belive they cast Gabriel Byrrne as the caretaker in Miss Smillas Feeling For Snow.
I was also astounded by Nic Cage in Captain Corelli

poppy34 · 18/01/2010 20:33

Mattbellamy- agree alice is good casting - rosalie as an actress gets it right but picture her as uma thurman in her dangerous liaisons day. Do think kirsten stewart is well cast tho

ruhavingalarf · 18/01/2010 20:35

leo di caprio in the beach

SolidGoldBrass · 18/01/2010 20:45

I'm glad to see a few other people slating the abomination that was QUite Ugly ONe Morning. Not only was James Nesbit completely wrong but whoever adapted it fucked up the plot and relationships completely. One of Brookmyre's great strenghts is the smart, independent female characters in the books, this awful TV version turned both Jenny and Sarah into simpering twats.

wubblybubbly · 18/01/2010 20:46

Not once seen a decent Mr Rochester. Ciaran Hinds was close-ish.

All this Alan Rickman talk has got me thinking he might be a good Mr Rochester, he's kind of dead sexy and a bit menacing and not being 'conventionally handsome'.

Most Jane Eyre's have been pretty crappy too, usually far too pretty and wet. Ruth Wilson was pretty good though, a great actress.

rosieposey · 18/01/2010 20:51

Ok i know its not exactly the same thing as live action films but i was very sad when George Clooney was cast as the Fantastic Mr Fox, he was nothing like the fox i had had in my head since i was 6

He wasn't bloody American for a start!

PortBlacksand · 18/01/2010 21:00

Bridget Jones - i picture her being a little bit chubby but v v attractive. RZ was nowhere near either...

I quite liked KK's Elizabeth Bennett - i found the actress in the Colin Firth version a bit too smug and matronly.
And can i just give a shout out to the lass from Playing the Field and more recently, Larkrise to Candleford who played Charlotte in this adaptation - she is a fantastic actress IMO.

lollipopmother · 18/01/2010 22:11

I agree with Alice in Twilight, she looks the part and she chirpy so she's got it right.

Even Edward's car is cast wrong - why couldn't they just use the same car is in the book, it's a car ffs!

MattBellamysMuse · 18/01/2010 23:38

I just finished watching Cold Mountain. Jude Law, despite earlier reservations, was well casted. Nicole Kidman was ok although she was nothing like book Ada.

Tigerlily1 · 19/01/2010 21:43

don't know if anyone's already said this but - matt damon in 'the talented mr ripley', just a whole bowl o' wrong! whereas john malkovich was a brilliant tom ripley in the later film.

MaKettle · 25/01/2010 22:12

And Gwyneth Paltrow as Marge in the talented Mr Ripley - just too perky. Marge was meant to be dough-like

glasjam · 25/01/2010 23:00

As someone mentioned before, Kevin Spacey in Shipping News, very wrong - should have been Philip Seymour Hoffman.

And I know it wasn't a film but David Tennant as Casanova completely mystified me - he had a fair stab at it but really what were they thinking??
