Well... I'd love to meet you all!

Anyone who thinks they might be interested in coming to meet and talk books, post here.

There are going to be lots of dates, ideas and places and i wonder if anyone would be willing to organise with me?? It would mean private messaging and perhaps moving to WhatsApp or email at some point. Maybe 3 of us?

Oh this is exciting/scary! Thanks so much to the organisers. I will try to ringfence the Manchester 17/08 meetup.

orangelotus · 18/03/2024 16:12

I would be interested in London.
The Wetherspoons pubs are usually huge and cheap coffee refills etc?

StColumbofNavron · 18/03/2024 16:19

Fab, will add your name @orangelotus and thanks for the suggestion

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 18/03/2024 16:24

Oh dear, I'm in Manchester for a Peter Kay gig the weekend of the London meet up, and I'm going with my (mega fan) daughter to the Taylor Swift concert in London the night before the Manchester meet up.
I may be able to make the Manchester date if I can tie it in with a weekend visiting family and can get up early enough to get there in time.

CornishLizard · 18/03/2024 16:49

Thanks StColumb and Perm, I’ve put 18 May in the diary. Very much looking forward to a bookish day!

Sadik · 18/03/2024 16:58

I might be able to make the Manchester meet up - can't commit as yet because I may need to go earlier in the month (it's a 6 hour train journey, so once in a month is definitely my limit!), but if I can work it in with other things I will. Thank you to all of you organising :)

Boiledeggandtoast · 18/03/2024 17:01

StColumbofNavron I have pm'ed you, but apologies to all that since posting my availability I have signed up for a quilting course which starts on the 18th May so will probably not now be able to make the London meet up unless you plan to stay on late into the afternoon. I'm kicking myself because I only signed up to the course last Friday. Many apologies.

highlandcoo · 18/03/2024 17:07

Thank you so much to the organisers!

Please could you add my name to the London meet up as well as Manchester?

Another possible venue could be one of the cafes in the Piccadilly Waterstone's .. or the London Review Bookshop near the British Museum used to have a nice courtyard if the weather is fine.

I would love to go somewhere not too noisy and clattery if possible.

CrepuscularCritter · 18/03/2024 17:54

Thanks to the organisers; I don't underestimate the task. Smile Both dates are currently free and in my diary. As far as venue is concerned, I will be on public transport for either option, so I'd welcome somewhere reasonably close to services. I'll think if there is anywhere in London that might be suitable for us; I'm less familiar with Manchester.

StColumbofNavron · 18/03/2024 18:02

Of course, and nearer the time people are welcome to change their mind and come etc. Largely I think as flexible as possible.

StColumbofNavron · 18/03/2024 18:06

I’m not sure why but I can’t seem to reply to DMs right now, so I’m not ignoring

ASighMadeOfStone · 18/03/2024 18:06

I'd forgotten about this, and the thread had fallen off my actives.

I doubt I'd be able to make Manchester and am still abroad in May but I'll stay on the thread just in case!

JaninaDuszejko · 18/03/2024 18:14

We've still not decided our summer holiday dates so keep me informed about both for the time being. Hopefully will make a decision after Easter.

StColumbofNavron · 18/03/2024 18:17

@JaninaDuszejko you are high on my list of Mumsnetters to meet because our tastes often cross.

StColumbofNavron · 18/03/2024 18:18

I’ll pop a reminder post on the main thread for those that have fallen off.

bibliomania · 18/03/2024 19:43

Exciting, thanks!

FortunaMajor · 18/03/2024 20:08

Thank you. I've put the Manchester date in my diary.

BestIsWest · 18/03/2024 21:07

I’ve just booked a holiday this morning returning on the 18th of May so won’t be able to make London. Manchester is probably too far as it is a 4.5 hour train journey though bizarrely I can get a direct train from the station in the next village. Will have a think about it.

bibliomania · 18/03/2024 21:10

Lots of lovely reading time on the train, Best!

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 18/03/2024 21:13

Thank you StColomb. I appreciate the work you put into this. I'm not sure I'll make the dates, but I've taken note of them and will see what's possible.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/03/2024 21:15

Still pondering....would be Manchester though. Thanks guys x

TimeforaGandT · 18/03/2024 22:19

London date in my diary. I like the sound of the courtyard at the London Review Bookshop (although that would probably guarantee a wet day…..).

Thank you for organising.

FortunaMajor · 18/03/2024 23:16

Just chucking out some ideas for Manchester, but happy to go absolutely anywhere.
