Well... I'd love to meet you all!

Anyone who thinks they might be interested in coming to meet and talk books, post here.

There are going to be lots of dates, ideas and places and i wonder if anyone would be willing to organise with me?? It would mean private messaging and perhaps moving to WhatsApp or email at some point. Maybe 3 of us?

@MamaNewtNewt in the organising action too.

I’ll create a poll, I think we opted for August as the best possible time range but was planning to work from May/June and August and then see where we end up.

StColumbofNavron · 28/02/2024 15:12

The poll for dates is officially open.

Shall we say a week or so? Can always extend if necessary.

magimedi · 28/02/2024 16:34

I just looked at the poll, out of nosiness as am not in the UK. It showed my email at the top - and not the one I use for Mumsnet. I hope noone else can see it!

Edit: I've just worked out why - it's because I am logged into google.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/02/2024 16:50

I'm not going to fill the form in because I am undecided and can make most dates

Sadik · 28/02/2024 16:51

Thanks StColumbo. I won't complete the poll as I'm very much a maybe only due to distance, but will see what I can do once dates are set :)

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/02/2024 17:01

@PermanentTemporary

I've sent you a PM

StColumbofNavron · 28/02/2024 18:20

I double checked the email situation and tested it and shouldn’t be able to see them
at all.

CrepuscularCritter · 28/02/2024 18:47

Spreadsheet duly completed. Sounds as though a plan is coming together. Smile

Midnightstar76 · 28/02/2024 19:36

Done @StColumbofNavron thanks for organising a poll

highlandcoo · 28/02/2024 20:39

Completed thank you 🙂

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 28/02/2024 21:31

Done 👍

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 28/02/2024 21:34

Completed, thank you!

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 28/02/2024 21:58

I've added my availability too

noodlezoodle · 28/02/2024 22:14

Done!

bibliomania · 29/02/2024 12:21

Done, thank you. I have to avoid the whole GCSE period or will be accused of heartless child abandonment.

ChessieFL · 29/02/2024 12:51

I have completed although I’m not sure if I’m going to go so don’t allow my responses to influence any final decision!

PermanentTemporary · 29/02/2024 13:15

Done!

Done, many thanks.

biblio I'm sure your student will appreciate your sacrifice - my mother was away for my O'levels and I felt bereft (not sure why as she wasn't particularly maternal) and vowed that I would be there for my own DCs. (I was!)

TimeforaGandT · 29/02/2024 16:01

Done, thank you.

However, please don’t be driven by me (as if you would be!) as student and elderly parent needs may mean my availability changes.

TimeforaGandT · 29/02/2024 16:02

Student DC I should have said - thankfully not responsible for any others!

bibliomania · 29/02/2024 19:09

Thanks @Boiledeggandtoast Sorry your mum wasn't there. It matters, even when you're a big girl.

CoteDAzur · 01/03/2024 14:13

It will be London for me if I can make it to the meet-up at all, but I am not doing the poll because I have no idea about when I can be there. I'll just follow the thread and see if I can be in London on the proposed date.

cassandre · 01/03/2024 16:30

I'm not going to do the poll either, for similar reasons to others: I'm just not sure yet which dates I'll have free! But once the date of the meet up (or meet ups) is settled, I'll do my best to ringfence it and be there.

Grateful thanks again to the organisers.

StColumbofNavron · 13/03/2024 19:31

I haven’t forgotten about this… lots of birthdays, various other things and work keeping me busy but will post dates soon.

StColumbofNavron · 18/03/2024 15:05

With apologies from me for the delay here, I have finally crunched the numbers.

For now, I think we can keep comms here with ideas/thoughts/suggestions and we’ll have to figure out how best to share final details - I don’t think we’d want to post them publically here, but let me know if you think differently.

For London, we have vague plans around King’s Cross and Bloomsbury but aware we have some accessibility needs to keep in mind. Feel free to chip in with any thoughts at all -

  • should we plan to eat somewhere/do people prefer to bring their own food;
  • perhaps a pub where people can eat if they want but also have their own sandwiches with a drink;
  • personally I struggle with sitting on the floor in picnic scenarios for example;
  • are there any budgetary constraints (feel free to share privately) - we don’t have anything particularly costly in mind
