Well... I'd love to meet you all!

Anyone who thinks they might be interested in coming to meet and talk books, post here.

There are going to be lots of dates, ideas and places and i wonder if anyone would be willing to organise with me?? It would mean private messaging and perhaps moving to WhatsApp or email at some point. Maybe 3 of us?

I'll already be in Manchester so any time good for me.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 03/08/2024 09:59

I'm fine for any start time, but need to be away about 15.15. Perhaps one of the further travellers could suggest when works well for them?

Sorry to be pain but I don't use WhatsApp. Completely understand that this will be the most convenient way for everyone to arrange things, but if someone doesn't mind dropping me a quick PM on here/email/text when arrangements have been agreed I'd really appreciate it. Looking forward to it!

MamaNewtNewt · 03/08/2024 10:56

Let's go with email addresses then, send me yours in a messaged if you are ok with that. We can then firm up the times and plan. I might just put one message on the main chat to see if anyone else is interested as it's been a while and people might have forgotten about this chat.

cassandre · 04/08/2024 18:48

Thanks @MamaNewtNewt, I've just messaged you my email address!

I've never been to Manchester before (I'm a couple of hours south). Am very excited about meeting everyone and seeing a bit of the city.

Sadik · 05/08/2024 12:01

Thanks @MamaNewtNewt - email address also sent through :)

StColumbofNavron · 08/08/2024 19:19

@MamaNewtNewt i am planning to come. I am still away on holiday at the moment and just need to book a ticket from London.

Terpsichore · 08/08/2024 20:38

Sorry not to be able to make it - not impossible in theory but that date just won’t work for me, unfortunately. Have a great time, everyone, and hoping we can repeat the London meet-up sometime.

MamaNewtNewt · 08/08/2024 21:55

Thanks to everyone who has sent me your email address. I will get an email out tomorrow or Saturday. Looking forward to meeting you all!

JaninaDuszejko · 09/08/2024 07:47

There was a book swap in London wasn't there? Do we want to do something similar?

MamaNewtNewt · 09/08/2024 08:36

There was and I think that's a great idea. As I said we should definitely nick all the ideas from the Southern meet up. I'll inc in the email and we can see what everyone thinks. Let me know any other ideas.

JaninaDuszejko · 11/08/2024 17:20

Have you sent an email? I can't see anything in my in box.

I'm coming from the NE and can be in Manchester from ~10am to ~4pm.

Sadik · 11/08/2024 17:39

Definitely up for a swap - is it a mystery/wrapped one, or we all bring something & then choose what to take?

Sadik · 11/08/2024 17:39

Edited - double post

RomanMum · 12/08/2024 10:09

@Sadik we each brought a wrapped mystery book that we thought would appeal to the group and elkiedee (I think) kindly brought some from their library which we could take. It was a lucky dip which we all opened at lunch.

RomanMum · 12/08/2024 10:09

Sorry, just to clarify, the book itself was a mystery, not in the Mystery genre... 😊

MamaNewtNewt · 12/08/2024 11:18

I'm so sorry I have not sent an email. I have a family emergency at the moment so doubt I will even be able to make it. I will send an email now so everyone is on the chain and can sort details.

Sadik · 12/08/2024 11:21

So sorry to hear that @MamaNewtNewt If it's easier, you could forward me the list of emails & I can take it from there?

MamaNewtNewt · 12/08/2024 11:35

Thanks for the understanding and the offer of help Sadik. I just sent an email to you all, titled 50 Bookers a meet Up with the details and questions. Let me know if you don't get it, or if you have decided you want to join us then let me know and I can send on.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 12/08/2024 12:11

Sorry to hear you're having a tough time @MamaNewtNewt. Thanks so much for the email. I'm sure now we're all on a thread together we can take shared responsibility for making plans.

JaninaDuszejko · 12/08/2024 12:34

So sorry to hear that @MamaNewtNewt . Don't worry about us, we can sort ourselves out. Hope things calm down for you soon.

MamaNewtNewt · 12/08/2024 13:05

Thanks all. A member of my family has mental health and addiction issues which have flared up this weekend. I have taken the afternoon off to work with my DSis so we can get help sorted for them so am hoping I'll still be able to make it on Saturday.

bibliomania · 12/08/2024 13:17

Thanks, Mama. Hope things calm down and you can make it.

highlandcoo · 14/08/2024 19:20

That sounds tough Mama I hope things improve Flowers

elkiedee · 15/08/2024 00:56

Sorry to hear you're having a difficult time MamaNewt - I'm not going to make it because I haven't done anything about organising somewhere to stay, let alone getting a reasonably priced train fare.

Is it too soon to think about planning further meetup(s), in London or out of it, for the autumn? I'd also be up for smaller scale mini meet ups, eg if anyone in London (or visiting and interested in scheduling a charity shop crawl or a visit to a particular book haunt. I'm in North East London and where we met last time works well for me, or Crouch End/Muswell Hill/Holloway Road/Kentish Town all have clusters of charity shops quite close together - 3 of those have an Oxfam bookshop among those I think. (Also Oxfam Bookshop in Bloomsbury, not that far from where we met last time and Skoob/Judd books, and I think there's quite a big one in Walthamstow which also lists books online - though I'm not quite sure what else is there.

elkiedee · 15/08/2024 01:02

Wishing everyone lots of fun.

I live in London so I didn't have far to carry stuff. I don't drive and I have lots of duplicate books, mostly books I acquired in paperback/hardback and now have available in Kindle, occasionally in a preferred edition - whatever, I have literally hundreds of books which need a new home and I always try to take a few to palm off on people at meet ups.
