Well... I'd love to meet you all!

Anyone who thinks they might be interested in coming to meet and talk books, post here.

There are going to be lots of dates, ideas and places and i wonder if anyone would be willing to organise with me?? It would mean private messaging and perhaps moving to WhatsApp or email at some point. Maybe 3 of us?

Hello all, just checking in to see if the Manchester meetup is still going ahead?

Midnightstar76 · 28/07/2024 17:37

Hi was just thinking the same. Was there a date set? 🙂

JaninaDuszejko · 28/07/2024 20:37

Think it was 17th Aug?

Sadik · 28/07/2024 22:28

Yes, Saturday 17th August. I'm definitely in Manchester that weekend for utter reasons now so up for it if others are

FortunaMajor · 29/07/2024 07:57

I'm still up for it. It's in my diary.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 29/07/2024 10:29

I can do 17/08 but would need to away by about 15.15 for another thing in town that day.

Rowena191 · 29/07/2024 11:36

Can I join?Would love to do a book meetup in Manchester on 17 August.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/07/2024 11:51

I haven't ruled it out!

cassandre · 29/07/2024 13:31

I can make that date, would love to go!

MamaNewtNewt · 29/07/2024 19:34

I've been meaning to message as I volunteered to arrange the northern meet-up but have been crazy busy at work. We did agree on 17th Aug. If you can let me know if you can make it that would be great.

I reckon we shamelessly nick the best ideas from the earlier meet-up, and add our own Northern twist. So if you have any ideas or requirements let me know!

JaninaDuszejko · 29/07/2024 19:42

I can make it.

bibliomania · 30/07/2024 10:21

I'm up for it!

elkiedee · 30/07/2024 10:42

I'm considering it!

Bookshop cafe? I reckon cake would be good! (or somewhere like People's History Museum?)
Does anyone coming need wheelchair accessible / other accessible?

Midnightstar76 · 01/08/2024 14:28

I can’t make that date as pre-planned a sound bath relaxation day with my sister, if another date then I could have but was not sure what date it was. Will come to any other meet-ups arranged though 🙂 Was there a WhatsApp group set up? If so could I be added? I know one was done for the London meet up but hadn’t joined as thought it was for London meet up only. P.s @MamaNewtNewt thank you for volunteering to help organise and anyone else who has

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 01/08/2024 14:52

I can't make this one but would love to join in on another one in the future as the London one was such fun.

We didn't have a WhatsApp group. We gave PermanentTemporary an email address by pm and she contacted* *us.

highlandcoo · 01/08/2024 19:29

I'd like to come along! I'm around until about 4.30 pm that day.

Chapter One in Lever Street in the Northern Quarter, or The House of Books and Friends (appropriate name Smile) in King Street might be possible venues to meet up?

Sadik · 01/08/2024 20:58

I asked dc for suggestions & they mentioned both the above - along with Social Refuge as a definitely accessible option (with good cake) if anyone needs.

This events space might be too large (and I haven't checked whether it's available) But there's also a cafe area for tea and cakes in the main shop depending on numbers.

Could I also suggest a visit to John Ryland's library which isn't far away; it's really worth seeing.

Social Refuges looks interesting Sadik - I hadn't heard of it before.

Sadik · 02/08/2024 07:43

DC says they reckon they fund the radical bookshop through very good cake Grin

But yes House of books & friends sounds good - I think we're maybe just cafe numbers though?

Sadik · 02/08/2024 09:14

@MamaNewtNewt if you're really busy would it be easiest for us to have a whatsapp group to organise things? We could pm you phone nos, or alternatively I'd be happy to set one up. Or do people prefer to give email addresses rather than phone nos?

Sadik · 02/08/2024 09:16

Agree visit to the library would be great, looks like we need to book so we'd need to figure out a time

bibliomania · 02/08/2024 17:07

Not too early to accommodate travel time. I could do from 11am or so but others might need to travel for longer.

JaninaDuszejko · 02/08/2024 17:36

A start time would be good so those of us who need to book train tickets can do so. I'm in the NE so can make any reasonable time but if there are folk coming from Scotland they might need longer?

FortunaMajor · 02/08/2024 23:11

I'm happy to give my number in for WhatsApp as it will probably be easier than email. Who is best to send it to?
