Well... I'd love to meet you all!

Anyone who thinks they might be interested in coming to meet and talk books, post here.

There are going to be lots of dates, ideas and places and i wonder if anyone would be willing to organise with me?? It would mean private messaging and perhaps moving to WhatsApp or email at some point. Maybe 3 of us?

That was a fine day indeed, involving much chatter about books, book festivals, travels and many other things. It was great to meet you all, and if anyone is contemplating the next meet up, I would totally recommend it. Thank you all for being such great company and the fabulous book swaps and donations. I find myself with many reading choices on the way home. The swap pile is pictured.

So lovely to meet you all, and have such good book chat. Thank you one and all. I look forward to hearing all about the books we swapped.

Terpsichore · 18/05/2024 17:44

Lovely to meet everyone and put faces to names. The book swap was a great idea. Thanks @PermanentTemporary and @StColumbofNavron for wrangling us!

On way home, so lovely to meet everyone. Even the weather held up! Thanks to @PermanentTemporary and @StColumbofNavron for organising the day, I look forward to reading my 'lucky dip' book, it's just the sort I would have chosen.

SheilaFentiman · 18/05/2024 18:00

I have not started my book swap book yet but I did start one of my freebies on the way home (thank you to the gifter, I have forgotten your MN name!)

TimeforaGandT · 18/05/2024 18:24

A big thank you from me too @PermanentTemporary and @StColumbofNavron.

Thoroughly enjoyable and recommended.

Sorry to leave early but good thing I did as horrific traffic due to motorway closure.

BadSpellaSpellaSpella · 18/05/2024 18:30

Lovely to meet everyone and thanks again to the organisers.

PermanentTemporary · 18/05/2024 18:40

So happy to meet everyone and for my amazing swap books, plus the dark pleasures of the 2nd hand book shops! Thanks especially to @StColumbofNavron and of course to @FuzzyCaoraDhubh for travelling the furthest 🤗

I'm currently sitting under a tree in Hyde Park enjoying the last of the evening sunshine before heading to Heathrow.

I had a wonderful day and will treasure it always! Lovely to see you all! Brilliant company, great fun and new books to bring home.

Thank you @PermanentTemporary and @StColumbofNavron for organising it all.

That will be @elkiedee

Huge thanks from me too @PermanentTemporary and @StColumbofNavron ; it was a really enjoyable day and lovely to meet IRL people who’ve felt like online friends for so long 😊

TattiePants · 18/05/2024 19:14

It sounds like you’ve all had a fabulous day. I’m very jealous as I’ve spent the day alternative between jet washing the drive and helping DS with A Level revision! At least the NE weather’s been good.

MamaNewtNewt · 18/05/2024 19:19

Glad you all had fun and hope to see some of you at the Northern meet-up too! More on that to come soon!

CornishLizard · 18/05/2024 20:31

Thank you all very much for a really lovely afternoon, so nice to meet everyone who was able to make it. Great planning and location choices, it all worked out so well and the book swap was a lovely idea, thank you Permanent and StColumb.

StColumbofNavron · 18/05/2024 21:09

I just looked up Lucy Wadham, whose book was one of my wonderful Elkie freebies and it’s turns out she wrote The Secret Life of 🇫🇷. I rather enjoyed that so looking forward to this.

@MamaNewtNewt so good chat about Manchester and at least 3-4 from today hopeful to make it.

Ser you on the thread, as AgualusasLover.

noodlezoodle · 18/05/2024 22:18

I am very jealous! Sounds like a wonderful day. If I am in England when the Manchester meet up happens I look forward to joining that.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 18/05/2024 23:57

At three minutes to midnight, I have arrived home :)

elkiedee · 19/05/2024 02:48

Great to meet some of you. I'd quite like to get up to Manchester - my sister lives there - but as it's in the middle of school holidays, it might be when she plans to go away. I hope we can get to have another London meetup sometime.

Sadik · 02/06/2024 19:22

Looks like I should be able to make it to Manchester - very excited!

bibliomania · 03/06/2024 16:27

Yay, sadik!

Stowickthevast · 03/06/2024 19:16

I completely didn't realize these meetings were happening. Or I think I remembered it being mentioned and then forgot again. Anyway it all sounds very lovely and so am placemarking for the next one as London is generally a good bet for me.

StColumbofNavron · 08/06/2024 16:43

Oh @Stowickthevast sorry you missed it. I’m sure we will do it again.

bibliomania · 08/06/2024 18:05

Come to Manchester, Stowick!

elkiedee · 11/06/2024 20:39

@Stowickthevast I'm sorry that you missed out. I'm hoping to make it to Manchester but I'm not sure - it partly depends on whether or not my sister can put me up in Stockport (not if she and her DH/kids are away which is more than possible in mid August).

But if I don't or even if we both do make it up, we should have another London meet up some time. Or have another go at arranging a mini meet up and invite others here to join us if they can - last time I never got it together to make a definite arrangement with you - you're only a few miles away (and an easy bus journey) from me.

Stowickthevast · 12/06/2024 21:45

Yes that's right @elkiedee . We can always do a local one!

I don't think I'll make Manchester, have got a packed diary this year over the summer but would definitely up for something in the autumn!
