Following on from his Sunday Times bestseller Marcus at Home, Marcus Wareing is back - with a must-have new classic for your kitchen shelves.

Over the years, Marcus has developed and refined recipe after recipe. Whether it’s a quick meal after a hectic day, a recipe to bring your family together or a feast to impress your friends, Marcus brings excellence to every dish that he makes.

In New Classics, Marcus takes the best of time-honoured recipes and puts his own spin on them. What’s more, he creates new recipes that will become much-loved classics in their own right. Here is a book to pore over, to bring inspiration and excitement back into your cooking, and to use again and again.

Marcus’ new book features his own take on classic dishes, as well as dishes he thinks deserve to be classics of the future. For a chance to win a copy plus a £100 restaurant voucher, we want to know: what are your all-time favourite classic recipes - or the ones that you think deserve to be classics?

Cottage pie is a firm favourite in our household and as I follow my mum's recipe and she is a classic, I think it counts as a classic recipe!

My not very authentic paella is a classic in my house. My husband requests it every couple of weeks. My daughter's favourite is meatballs and pasta.

OK - If we are talking old classic then Mrs Beeton has to get a mention here and her Bread Pudding is Legendary - We love it

I'll go for puddings, one of my favourite's is crème caramel, I prefer this to crème brulee. The best pudding I have ever had in a restaurant, much to my surprise because I'm not usually an ice cream person, was baked Alaska! Pavlova is up there too, very versatile, and chocolate roulade would all be in my all time classics!

Coq au Vin is a favourite in our house

I have cooked a lot of the recipes from Delia’s complete cookery course.
Really classic, simple staples like lasagne, cottage pie, fish pie and breads.
I truly did learn to cook from that book.

My modern favourite recipe for a special occasion is Gordon Ramsay’s sea trout with crushed new potatoes, baby leeks and tomato butter sauce.
And a midweek staple is Ainsley Harriott’s curry in a hurry (in the oven cooking as we speak)

Coq au vin.
Absolutely delicious, filling, impressive (if preferred) and the recipe can be versatile if necessary.

My favourite classic recipe is one that you don't see often any more - Irish Stew.

I love lamb, I love cheap cuts and I love slow one pot cooking and Irish Stew covers all of those. And it involves pearl barley, a mysterious ingredient which reminds me of my Nana Smile.

Half a deep plate/bowl full of piping hot Irish Stew with lots of white pepper on the potatoes, and the other half of the plate filled with bright green steamed Savoy cabbage plus a knob of butter. Couldn't wish for a better dinner in the winter.

  2. Veggie Lasagna - packed full of colour and nutrients. Can be batch made and frozen for later.
