Following on from his Sunday Times bestseller Marcus at Home, Marcus Wareing is back - with a must-have new classic for your kitchen shelves.

Over the years, Marcus has developed and refined recipe after recipe. Whether it’s a quick meal after a hectic day, a recipe to bring your family together or a feast to impress your friends, Marcus brings excellence to every dish that he makes.

In New Classics, Marcus takes the best of time-honoured recipes and puts his own spin on them. What’s more, he creates new recipes that will become much-loved classics in their own right. Here is a book to pore over, to bring inspiration and excitement back into your cooking, and to use again and again.

Marcus’ new book features his own take on classic dishes, as well as dishes he thinks deserve to be classics of the future. For a chance to win a copy plus a £100 restaurant voucher, we want to know: what are your all-time favourite classic recipes - or the ones that you think deserve to be classics?

I think there are lots of foods which are now considered to be horribly old-fashioned which are due a renaissance. Black Forest Gateau is a case in point. I made one recently for a German friend's birthday and it was so good I've done it several times since. It's fabulous.

FridgeCut · 13/11/2017 10:20

A classic for us is bolognese, it takes me hours and at least two meats, but it is always worth it.

Pretendbookworm · 13/11/2017 22:35

Mine is definitely fish pie - it has to have cheese, chilli and tomato in though just to make it a bit more interesting!

Jayjayharrychops · 13/11/2017 23:33

I'm a big fan of Jamie Oliver 30 minutes meals. I like my children to have healthy balanced meals, & time is a real issue after the kids have attended after school clubs etc. I usually cook stir frys, pasta etc & spend more time making family favourites like currys, roasts etc for the weekend when we all have more than!

Amber0685 · 13/11/2017 23:35

Spaghetti Bolognese - my late Italian Mill's recipe that cooks for 3+ hours.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 13/11/2017 23:43

Dahl. Lots of coriander and coconut milk and a bit of chilli. With perfectly cooked rice.

MrRichTea · 13/11/2017 23:43

Beef Bourgignon #Yummy :)

NoodieRoodie · 14/11/2017 00:00

Crumble! Everyone loves it, I always make loads more crumble than I need and shove it in the freezer. The first time I made it for the children I told them it was gruffalo crumble and it's their favourite pudding regardless of what fruit goes in. A family favourite now is tinned peaches with a handful of blackberries and maybe a touch of ginger. Plus I can serve it to adults without it looking like I'm serving a kids pudding 😀

Home pasta with home made pesto. Nothing cant go wrong, especially with home made tiramisu at the end

jhgillies · 14/11/2017 11:32

My family is quite adventurous and think my Mexican Mole should be a classic. They are sad that few even know what it is. Chocolate and chili who doesn't love that?

ButterflyOfFreedom · 15/11/2017 13:58

Shepherds Pie or a Roast Chicken dinner - they scream classic to me (& I love them both!!)

FurryDogMother · 15/11/2017 14:15

Liver and bacon with onion gravy and piles of creamy mash.
Baked apples stuffed with sultanas and served with custard.
Devilled kidneys on toast.
Gooseberry Fool.
Beef stew with carrots and dumplings.
Beer-battered fish and chunky chips.

Enigma222 · 15/11/2017 20:03

Fish Pie and a creamy sauce 🐟

BL0SS0M · 15/11/2017 20:09

Rhubarb crumble and custard

Belo · 15/11/2017 20:51

Jamie Oliver’s green chicken curry. Easy to make, but the huge amount of fresh herbs always ensures that’s it’s full of flavour. Equally good using prawns or fish or crispy tofu.

burwellmum · 16/11/2017 10:07

Not very original but my grandmother's chocolate cake still takes some beating - light and moist. I've never bought one like it.

Smellophant87 · 16/11/2017 13:14

My favourite classic recipe is a Bolognese sauce, it is so easy to make but so tasty and you can use it in lots of different recipes - pastichio, chilli con carne, lasagna, jacket potatoes, pizza, nachos...

katiebasey · 16/11/2017 21:45

My grandma's Cut and Come Again cake
A spicy fruit loaf, with sultanas and currants and mixed spice, when we were little we used to love to lick the bowl.

Beef Gulasch
Cottage Pie

IssyM · 18/11/2017 12:06

Risotto - salmon, asparagus, peas and parmesan.

SSCRASE123 · 19/11/2017 09:10

Spag Bowl. Can be awful if cooked badly but a good one (with chillies) is one of my favourite meals.

silversand12 · 19/11/2017 14:40

My all time favourite classics are toad in the hole, shepherd's pie and apple & rhubarb crumble :)

oliveoyl72 · 20/11/2017 22:35

My number one go to recipe is a bolognaise, so tasty (not the stuff out of a jar - yuck!)

I often make a big batch and freeze in portions to have with spaghetti, jacket spud, nachos, or put in a lasagne, or on a pizza - so versatile.

And tiramisu is my fave, it's just beautiful - chocolate, coffee, cream, little bit of alcohol - what's not to love.
