Following on from his Sunday Times bestseller Marcus at Home, Marcus Wareing is back - with a must-have new classic for your kitchen shelves.

Over the years, Marcus has developed and refined recipe after recipe. Whether it’s a quick meal after a hectic day, a recipe to bring your family together or a feast to impress your friends, Marcus brings excellence to every dish that he makes.

In New Classics, Marcus takes the best of time-honoured recipes and puts his own spin on them. What’s more, he creates new recipes that will become much-loved classics in their own right. Here is a book to pore over, to bring inspiration and excitement back into your cooking, and to use again and again.

Marcus’ new book features his own take on classic dishes, as well as dishes he thinks deserve to be classics of the future. For a chance to win a copy plus a £100 restaurant voucher, we want to know: what are your all-time favourite classic recipes - or the ones that you think deserve to be classics?

Mine would be Chilli con carne. It is so versatile and quick to make. Can have it with wedges or rice!

Of classic recipes, it has to be creme brulee for me. I've had it butchered in so many ways around the world, and like all simple recipes (in terms of numbers of ingredients and flavours) its so easy to make it meh without care. But when done well, its just a beautiful contrast of mouth feel and flavours

Oh lordy....where do i start?!!

  1. Butternut Squash and Red Pepper soup - easy to make, hearty, filling and flavoursome!

  2. Veggie Lasagna - packed full of colour and nutrients. Can be batch made and frozen for later.

My favourite classic recipe is one that you don't see often any more - Irish Stew.

I love lamb, I love cheap cuts and I love slow one pot cooking and Irish Stew covers all of those. And it involves pearl barley, a mysterious ingredient which reminds me of my Nana Smile.

Half a deep plate/bowl full of piping hot Irish Stew with lots of white pepper on the potatoes, and the other half of the plate filled with bright green steamed Savoy cabbage plus a knob of butter. Couldn't wish for a better dinner in the winter.

Coq au vin.
Absolutely delicious, filling, impressive (if preferred) and the recipe can be versatile if necessary.

I have cooked a lot of the recipes from Delia’s complete cookery course.
Really classic, simple staples like lasagne, cottage pie, fish pie and breads.
I truly did learn to cook from that book.

My modern favourite recipe for a special occasion is Gordon Ramsay’s sea trout with crushed new potatoes, baby leeks and tomato butter sauce.
And a midweek staple is Ainsley Harriott’s curry in a hurry (in the oven cooking as we speak)
