Was reading the Wolf Hall thread and got me thinking about what was the first fictional character you got a crush on ?

Weirdly I think mine was Henry V from Shakespeare :-/ followed by Mr Thornton from North and South ( just discovered the tv version!)

What were yours?

It's probably too obvious to say Mr Darcy, but I think it was :)

I fancied the eponymous 'Tex' from SE Hinton's novel when I was about 12. I enjoyed Pride and Prejudice but can't ever say I fancied Mr D. I have unhealthy feelings for Eric Northman these days.

Shodan · 14/06/2012 16:17

Not until I was a Grown Up- Jamie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon's Cross Stitch series. No idea why, since I don't really like red-haired, log-haired men- but crikey he sounds all manly and strong Grin (Plus the kilt thing, natch)

TheMysteryCat · 14/06/2012 16:17

Hal and Roger Hunt from the Willard Price Adventure novels!

Lakota · 14/06/2012 16:19

Strider from LOTR a bit too, was probably about 13 when I read them.

aliportico · 14/06/2012 16:20

Lol, not Hal, he was too 'nice', but yes to Roger! Though perhaps Dick out of the Famous Five was first. Then Holden Caulfield.

shrinkingnora · 14/06/2012 16:22

Hal Hunt from the Willard Price adventures (you're not aloneTMC) and Dallas Winston (from SE Hintons The Outsiders).

Poledra · 14/06/2012 16:23

Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables

TheMysteryCat · 14/06/2012 16:28

oh and Dag and Andy from Generation X as well.

glad I'm not the only one with a crush on the adventure lads!

I spent far too much time reading grizzly horror novels, so not sure there were any remotely fanciable types in those!

Alurkatsoftplay · 14/06/2012 16:33

Probably Julian from Famous Five. He was so..um..competent?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 14/06/2012 16:37

It was lovely no-immune-system-Adam from The Boy in the Bubble by Ian Strachan. He was all handsome and, quite literally, untouchable.

I also harboured a crush on the film versions of The Artful Dodger and Diccon from The Secret Garden. :o

Alurkatsoftplay · 14/06/2012 16:51

Ooh, yes the Artful Dodger and Huckleberry Finn on TV.

Puffykins · 14/06/2012 16:53

I'm glad I'm not the only only one who had a crush on Julian from The Famous Five....

Lakota · 14/06/2012 17:15

Oh yes, Dally too. How could I forget when I mentioned Tex already?

MimsyBorogroves · 14/06/2012 17:17

Yes, Gil from Anne of Green Gables! Later, Marcus Flutie from 'Sloppy Firsts'

On tv, er, Aramid from Dogtanian. Blush

GetOrfMoiiLand · 14/06/2012 17:27

Uncle Quentin.

Alurkatsoftplay · 14/06/2012 17:31

I was going to say Uncle Quentin but couldn't bring myself to.

What about Ralph in Judy Blume's Forever? Or was that the penis, I can't remember.

Poledra · 14/06/2012 17:32

Arf at Uncle Quentin! Am currently the FF to DD1 at bedtime, and she is not fond of Uncle Q at all.

I, on the other hand, am much more Hmm at Daddy and Mummy announcing that the children are old enough to go off on holiday by themselves and let the parents have an adults only holiday in Scotland. FFS, your children are at boarding school, don't you get enough shagging adult time during term?

herethereeverywhere · 14/06/2012 18:10

Mr Darcy in book form never did it for me, now in film .....

Laughing at all the Famous Five crushes - shall never be able to look at ginger beer in the same way! Grin

BellaBearisWideAwake · 14/06/2012 18:12

Ralph was the penis!!

BellaBearisWideAwake · 14/06/2012 18:13

And YES to Tex and to Gilbert Blythe

InelegantlyWasted · 14/06/2012 18:18

Haha, Ralph was the penis!! I think Ralph was attached to Michael.
I was rather fond of Laurie from Little Women as a youngster.
When I got to about fourteen I fell in love, and have been ever since, Rupert Campbell-Black.

yellowraincoat · 14/06/2012 18:22

Heathcliff, obvs.

Because he's a bastard.

And now Edward from Twilight.

I am rubbish.

ILoveOnionRings · 14/06/2012 18:26

Another Rupert Campbell-Black admirer here too.
