Was reading the Wolf Hall thread and got me thinking about what was the first fictional character you got a crush on ?

Weirdly I think mine was Henry V from Shakespeare :-/ followed by Mr Thornton from North and South ( just discovered the tv version!)

What were yours?

RillaBlythe, Westerly! I had forgotten his name. I had my first inkling of the power of adult passion when reading that book.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 14/06/2012 21:49

Cheeky types!

Poledra come and look at my enid blyton parenting thread on chat.

I have no idea who Holden Caulfield is. Am I a philistine for thinking he is a character from The Colbys?

CaesarSaladNoDressing · 14/06/2012 21:54

Its was Maxwell Cauldfield who was is a real person (was Michael in Grease 2) but he was in the Colbys too.

Blush Blush

CaesarSaladNoDressing · 14/06/2012 21:55

Miles Colby apparently. Checked wiki for this but I actually KNEW the previous facts.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 14/06/2012 22:00

Lol at knowing he played Miles Colby.

I remember there was a character called Bliss in that as well. And Sable? Or am I making shit up now?

CaesarSaladNoDressing · 14/06/2012 22:09

Hmm not sure.

I know this because I was obsessed with Grease (and therefore Grease 2) and also read Just 17, Maxwell Cauldfield was often 'the poster' usually in an open denim shirt with bouffant hair.
Dreamy!

And I was not allowed to stay up and watch Colbys Sad DM drew the line at Howards Way!!

LetUsPrey · 14/06/2012 22:18

Another one for Laurie from Little Women.

More recently Morelli and Ranger from the Stephanie Plum books, and Diesel from the Wicked series, all by Janet Evanovich.

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 14/06/2012 22:40

Ralph de Bricassart the priest from 'The Thorn Birds' Blush

In my defence I was about 14 when I read it.. and have improved my taste in reading since!!

Also loved Gilbert Blythe....:)

Greythorne · 14/06/2012 22:47

Jay Gatsby

ladymariner · 14/06/2012 22:49

Another one for Hal Hunt here.

And then Troy from Far From The Madding Crowd...

aliportico · 14/06/2012 22:52

Oh God, how did I forget Pennington! He swims and plays the piano - irresistible :o

SecretPlansAndCleverTricks · 14/06/2012 22:56

RCB here, too. And still do, must be 25 years later. Isn't he about 70 now or something?

ReshapeWhileDamp · 14/06/2012 22:57

Tim from Robert Westall's The Watch House. He was all quirky and mad and intelligent. and all of 15

A little later, it was Dracula. And then Henry Tilney in Northanger Abbey. Nothing if not eclectic, me! Grin

MaisieM · 14/06/2012 22:58

Sebastian Scott and Guy Charlton from Lorna Hill's Sadlers Wells books (actually most of the men, except Jane's cousin Nigel, were rather lovely).

ReshapeWhileDamp · 14/06/2012 22:59

Ooh! Ooh! Forgot the obvious - my first proper, teenage literary lurve was of course, Toby Cohen/Coleman from Lynne Reid Banks' L-shaped Room trilogy. I am still so gutted that Jane never really managed to make it work with him. Sad

Poledra · 14/06/2012 23:12

Oooh, Reshape, did you ever read LRB's 'My Darling Villan'. I'd a bit of a crush on Mark from that too. He had a motorbike..

Jinsei · 14/06/2012 23:15

Another vote for Gilbert in Anne of Green Gables. I was totally in love with him. :)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 15/06/2012 00:29

HELL yeah to the Duke of Avon from These Old Shades - that's the one where he teaches her to ride, right?

And whoever said Here's to You Rachel Robinson - nooo, not that dragon boy, annoying but GORGEOUS Charles who changes his surname back to the "original" Polish name to wind his parents up. Yum.

And yes, OF COURSE Laurie. Still pissed off with Amy for marrying him rather than giving him time to go back and marry Jo and make her fabulously wealthy and able to take in as many orphan boys as she liked.

NicknameTaken · 15/06/2012 10:25

Who would have thought Enid Blyton could create such objects of desire? I loved Fatty from the "Find-Outers" books. He was so clever and masterful. He took Bets (Betty?) out for cakes and left a 5p tip. Such savoir faire!

notactuallyme · 15/06/2012 10:28

ELliott from the greengage summer

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 15/06/2012 10:43

I'm amazed that no-one has mentioned Howl from Howl's Moving Castle. Fit.

Magneto · 15/06/2012 11:28

Yes Elephants but also IMO clearly gay. Just look at his picture on the front of the book!

Magneto · 15/06/2012 11:30

Not that that makes him any less fanciable but I like to imagine I'd have a chance with my fictional boyfriends Wink

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 15/06/2012 11:33

I like bird Howl Blush

PostBellumBugsy · 15/06/2012 11:39

John of Gaunt in Katherine by Anya Seton. Was completely & utterly in love with him

Rupert Campbell-Black in Riders - except that was pure lust. I must have read that book 100 times.
