Was reading the Wolf Hall thread and got me thinking about what was the first fictional character you got a crush on ?

Weirdly I think mine was Henry V from Shakespeare :-/ followed by Mr Thornton from North and South ( just discovered the tv version!)

What were yours?

Like LeQueen, I can't bring myself to read the fourth book either. I think she had changed direction with Ged.

sieglinde · 19/06/2012 12:12

YY to so MANY of these, esp. Walter Blythe, Giles Marlow - much hotter than Patrick - and Will Ladislaw - YUM - and (blush) Sebastian in Sadler's Wells. And Rush in Elizabeth Enright's Melendy books. He plays the piano too, in a moody way. Ok, he's called Rush, but what the hell.

sieglinde · 19/06/2012 12:13

Oh, and I forgot Ged, and I loved him to bits in the first three books and I can't bear her stupid pi retconnings of the character. Give us back our Ged! Grin Quite liked Will in The Dark is Rising too. And Faramir in LOTR - NOT Aragorn.

HumphreyCobbler · 19/06/2012 12:58

yes, I really hated what they did to Farimir in the film, one of the few things that got on my nerves.

MizK · 19/06/2012 13:11

Big yes to Howl! Loved him, but first proper, I-want-a-man-like-HIM was Billy Lloyd Foxe. I just know he was scrummier than Rupert. Set the pattern for me always fancying 'interesting' looking men rather than straightforward hotties...

DumSpiroSpero · 20/06/2012 07:38

Have just remembered another strange one of mine - Adrian Mole Confused.

Oh yyy to many of these, Gilbert being the main one, oh I was so mad at Anne when she turned him down!
And yes to SE Hinton's characters, I loved all of them!
And yes to the Vanlmpire Lestat at around 16/17, from the books, def not Tom Cruise!
And yessss to Alexander from Alexander and Tatiana, in my early 20's whoar he was hot!

didldidi · 20/06/2012 18:48

John from the Tomorrow People.

stressedHEmum · 21/06/2012 09:56

Very first was Sebastian from Sadler's Wells. Then Bran from the Dark is Rising.

Bluestocking · 21/06/2012 16:50

Another Pennington girl here. Those broad shoulders! That sensitive touch on the piano!

UnrequitedSkink · 21/06/2012 19:26

I'm re-reading Cross Stitch (found it in a charity shop for a pound) to see if it is as good as I remember it being when I was 17. It's not (natch). But Jamie Fraser has still got it. Grin

mcfee · 21/06/2012 19:44

Julian from F5. The dad from Little House on the Prairie and then Almanzo. Dick from Flambards.
Same as every one else it seems!

LaundryFairy · 21/06/2012 19:52

Laurie in Little Women - as a girl I could never understand why Jo turned him down for the older professor... now I completely get it though.

Alicadabra · 21/06/2012 20:03

Was Joe Hardy the younger one? If so, then oh YES. Blush

One of the books had a really bad picture of him standing blindfolded at the top of a ferris wheel looking as if he was about to walk off the edge (no, I can't work out how/why now either). I remember gazing at it in lust for hours. Think I must have had a bit of a bloke-in-peril fetish going on. Hmm

[runs away in shame to hide]

MrsRhettButler · 21/06/2012 20:11

Laurie for me, I think I read Little Women before GWTW, if not it was always Rhett Wink

I defo have a thing for Heathcliffe too

hoodoo12345 · 21/06/2012 20:18

Another vote for Laurie here:)

all4u · 21/06/2012 20:30

Dr Christopher Syn from the Russell Thorndike novels - Pirate Vicar and Smuggler leader on Romney Marsh in Kent! Discovered whilst on a school trip to St Mary's Bay. (Do not read Dr Syn but the five 'prequels'!)
Or Sabatini's Captain Blood - or the hero of The Black Swan Charles de Bernais...
MY daughter now 13 agrees with me!

MrsRhettButler · 21/06/2012 20:33

Am I really the only one for Captain Rhett Butler? Shock

Rhubarbgarden · 21/06/2012 22:43

Oh yes yes yes to Peregrine from The Ordinary Princess [mental note to buy it for dd]. But before that it was Jack from Enid Blyton's Adventure series, and later (and unaccountably) The Mayor of Casterbridge Confused.

Inadeeptrance · 22/06/2012 00:11

Mine was Troy from the Virginia Andrews 'Heaven' books. Dark and dangerous.. Grin

TwoIfBySea · 22/06/2012 00:21

Stuart from The Stand - I was about 11.

MrsRhettButler · 22/06/2012 00:31

Just read whole thread and leoni has reminded me that my absolute first crush was Peter from Heidi!

Laurie! Yes. I forgot about him. I still don't get the old German teacher at all. Especially when he cut the boy's tongue. Nasty. But first crush - before Laurie, was Young Sherlock Holmes.
