First fictional character you fancied!

Was reading the Wolf Hall thread and got me thinking about what was the first fictional character you got a crush on ?

Weirdly I think mine was Henry V from Shakespeare :-/ followed by Mr Thornton from North and South ( just discovered the tv version!)

What were yours?

I also harbour a childish longing for Julian from the Famous Five, but I think my first proper crush was for Pennington from the KM Peyton novels, he was so cool.

chipmunksex · 14/06/2012 20:25

Holden Caulfield-I was fifteen too; we understood each other. Hmm

and all the Glass boys too,

Swiftly followed by Nick from The Great Gatsby.

Alurkatsoftplay · 14/06/2012 20:39

Hmm, it's looking like Enid Blyton's 'Julian' is the most fancied man in literature.

That is unexpected.

KurriKurri · 14/06/2012 20:40

chipmunksex - I loved Holden too, and I was so excited when my DD was old enough to read Catcher in The Rye - she let me down by declaring that she didn't like him because he was 'really irritating' Grin

bouncysmiley · 14/06/2012 20:42

Mr Rochester........... not sure what that says..

RillaBlythe · 14/06/2012 20:51

Jeremy Dragon from Judy Blume's Rachel Robinson.

All of S E Hinton's central male characters.

Various of K M Peyton's including Pennington, Jonathan, Jeremy, Will, Mark.

Jem from To Kill a Mockingbird.

Stan from Fifteen by Beverly Clearly.

Vidal from GH The Devil's Cub.

there are more...

Poledra · 14/06/2012 20:51

OMG, Pennington! See, he was probably my first proper (as in 'I'd do 'im') crush.

Though it did take me a couple of rereadings to work out the euphisms for 'and then they shagged on the beach' Grin

Poledra · 14/06/2012 20:52

euphimisms - nah, still doesn't look right Hmm

Brices · 14/06/2012 20:53

Bruce Carlton in Forever Amber

Will have to re-read now :)

VickityBoo · 14/06/2012 20:53

Going back some...the boy out of My Girl. Blush Does that count. I think I was 7.

HMQueenElizabeth · 14/06/2012 20:55

Boromir (Lord of the Rings). I think that makes me a nerd (I was 13 in my defence).

chipmunksex · 14/06/2012 20:55

When I read The catcher in the rye I have to stop myself doing a Holden impression all the time - I get so into it, he has the most distinctive written 'voice'.

Still dreamy after all theses years. Smile

crikeybill · 14/06/2012 20:56

Alexander from Tatiana and Alexander. Oh my god. I actually loved him, I started questioning my marriage and every thing. I'm not even joking !!!
Would my dh have searched war torn Poland for me....would he mmmmm !!!!!
Oh god I love him.

33goingon64 · 14/06/2012 20:56

No read whole thread, has anyone said Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green gables? I still have (mainly clean) fantasies about him....

HumphreyCobbler · 14/06/2012 20:57

YY Bruce Carlton

Lord Wrotham from Friday's Child by GH

Will from the Dark Is Rising

and most of all, Ged from The Wizard of Earthsea.

Adrian Mole. Blush

RillaBlythe · 14/06/2012 21:01

oh yes, Will from Dark is Rising! Totally!

PLUS Westerley from Seaward.

BarnMummy · 14/06/2012 21:02

Justin, Duke of Avon, from Georgette Heyer's These Old Shades. 2 decades on I still do!

highlandcoo · 14/06/2012 21:02

LemarchandsBox I loved Daniel Weir too.

Espedair Street is one of my favourite books. I always wondered if the band in it was based on Deacon Blue? That's how I pictured them.

You've reminded me it's time to read it again :)

GetOrfMoiiLand · 14/06/2012 21:04

Sebastian Scott from Lorna Hill novels.

Abdullah from Shirley Conran's Lace.

Tony Baddingham, Red Alderton, RCB and Declan O'Hara.

BestLaidPlans · 14/06/2012 21:07

HumphreyCobbler - yes to Will Stanton! I must have been about 10.

Later on Mr. Knightley from Emma and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. Also, Frank was definitely the better Hardy Boy.

CaesarSaladNoDressing · 14/06/2012 21:10

Steven Wakefield from Sweet Valley High Blush You know the twins sister??!!

And then a bit later on Rupert Campbell Black

I did eventually discover 'proper' books..
