Starting New Atkins tomorrow

mrsboogie · 28/03/2010 20:28

I am starting the new Atkins diet tomorrow - it's a bit less full-on than the old Atkins in that you are not just supposed to eat bacon eggs and steak three times a day forever.

Have been trying to lose weight all year -I last three weeks, plateau and then give up. This time I have to stick to it as I am a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding in June. I have already had to tell her that I cannot wear a traditional bridesmaid type dress (I am 5 stone overweight and have a 48 inch boob measurement) but there is still time for me to look a bit less massive if I go full on from here in.

She is slim and has the most beautiful dress - I dread to think what I am going to look like in the photos.

Wish me luck (and will power - no more Friday night wine)!

good luck - you can do it! Just stick to the rules and the weight will fall off!!

androbbob · 28/03/2010 21:53

Actually I know what you mean about the 3 week plateau - that is my downfall! Maybe you need to factor that in and allow a few 'treat' days in the 3rd week then get back on plan! That may been enough to get past it and then effectively start again. Two treat days should only mean a 'stay the same' that week and then another two to three weeks of weight loss.

on day three now. Not going too badly - no hunger and having a wide variety of food.

sausages with cauliflower cheese for tea!

Hi MrsBoogie - Good luck, I have been doing a LC, Low GI & GL diet for over 8 weeks with a company called GoLower and have lost 2 stone, so can vouch that it is possible.
The first month was hard as had to de tox but I can honestly say it is worth it and by June I should be at my goal weight and have lost 5 stone.
You could be 3 stone lighter by the end of June!

mummymels · 31/03/2010 23:18

Good luck with it MrsBoogie. You can do it. I am also doing Go Lower and although my weight loss has slowed down now because I've been doing it for a few months I lost a stone a month in the first 3 months so you can get half of your weight loss down before you are bridesmaid. Good luck with it.

mrsboogie · 03/04/2010 21:16

blimey - that is encouraging!! thank you ladies.

will have a look at GoLower to see what the difference is.

at end of 1st week now and have really stuck to it. There is not an Easter egg in the house! (DS is 18 months and doesn't like chocolate anyway)

A stone a month would be fab for me.

Hi

How is it going? I have bought the book and intend to get stuck in when the children return to school. I did Atkins once and felt great but have since gained it all back and more. This new one seems to be a lot more sensible in returning to something approaching a normal diet once you reach target. I have at least three stone to lose. Gosh, it is scary typing that!

GypsyMoth · 04/04/2010 19:03

Serendipitous........I need to lose that too. Between 3 and 4 but been low carbing 2 weeks and lost 8lb so far. Prob lost more but not weighed for a few days now.

serendipitous · 04/04/2010 21:58

Wow! Well done you...and thanks for the inspiration!

mrsboogie · 05/04/2010 17:05

1 week today and have lost about 4lbs - had NO chocolate and no wine over Easter.

It is tough in that induction stage is endless combinations of eggs, meat, salad and limited veg but easy in that I am never hungry so don't spend all my time thinking about food.

Also what is allowed is fairly predictable/boring so I only think about food when I have to. And there is no incentive to keep eating once you are satisfied. Which is good.

the premise of the new Atkins is that once you have lost the weight you slowly reintroduce carbs until you get to a point where you figure out how many and which type of carbs you can have without putting on weight.

Well done Mrs Boogie

Very impressive

Just to let you know that I am starting Atkins tomorrow. I am also combining this with quite a fitness regime (I am concerned that Atkins will leave me without energy to do the fitness but i'll have to keep fingers crossed).

My concern is that people seem to put on weight as soon as they stop Atkins as maintaining it is quite difficult so I have 3 stone to lose in total so I'm going to do Atkins until i've lost 1 1/2 stone and then will move over to Weight Watchers which I have done before and seems a bit more "sensible".

Good luck, keep going and remember, you WILL look good at your sisters wedding

pebbles77 · 08/04/2010 21:53

Ignore what I about lack of energy cos just read a bit more from the book and apparently energy is something that it really helps.

What did you find Mrs Boogie?

mrsboogie · 09/04/2010 15:45

I have foud no difference yet in energy levels - certainly no worse. I suspect I might be feeling more energetic if it wasn't for my 18mo DS who wakes twice a night every night!

But if I had an exercise regime it would certainly be no harder on Atkins.

I am now at 8lbs weight loss 12 days in.

It is absolutely fantastic in that I can see a weight loss every day I weigh myself.

The good thing is when you don't have carbs you find that you don't get unbearably hungry - you just feel a bit empty and feel you need to eat but its not like on a normal diet when you are starving and weak and have low blood sugar.

Also the new Atkins seeks to solve the problem of reaching yur goal weight and putting it all back on - it lets you very slowly introduce higher carbs intil you reach a point where you can eat so many but not put on wieght.

I think you have to accept that your days of roast potatoes or pasta will be very very rare for ever though.

The only problem I have is that I am having to eat a lot of meat and I am not a big meat eater.

Good luck with it pebbles77!!

Wow 8lbs is just amazing. Well done u. Makes continuing so much easier when u can actually c the loss.

The book says stay with first stage for min of 2 wks. How long do u think u will stick on that stage? I r
think I'm going to til I've lost 1 1/2 stone and then reassess. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to live long term but I think I'm so miserable with my weight that perhaps I'd do anything. Also if I have bad weekend or something I can just do first stage for a few days so the weight comes off immediately?

Quite looking forward to my bacon and eggs for brekkie . But not so much to dinner party tonight!!!

Keep it up

xxx

BudaisintheZONE · 10/04/2010 07:31

Good luck to all of you but can I please point out that old Atkins also did the reintroducing carbs slowly till you find your 'set point' at which you will start to gain weight. The whole premise of it is that you shouldn't go back to eating the crap white carbs in the quantities that most of us do.

Take a good multivit supplement which should help with any energy issues although when I did it after a few weeks I had loads of energy.

If you find you have constipation issues take magnesium.

Oh - and drink LOTS and LOTS of water. 8 glasses a day.

pebbles77 · 10/04/2010 07:53

Thanks for advice Buda
have u been able to keep the weight off?

BudaisintheZONE · 10/04/2010 08:09

Unfortunately not pebbles! Because I did what most people do on Atkins. They do Atkins, lose weight and then fall off the wagon completely and start eating exactly what they used to eat to cause them to gain in the first place. You have to accept that you can't eat the same way again or you will end up gaining the weight back. It has taken me a long time to realise that!

I am currently doing a low carb/low GI diet. Avoiding all 'crap' carbs. Eating a couple of slices of rye bread a day and having protein/fruit and veg. I have to accept though that I will be eating this way for a long time. I have 6 stone to lose.

pebbles77 · 10/04/2010 09:38

I think what i'm thinking is do atkins to lose main part of bulk and then swap to healthy eating (allowing myself treats cos without treats i'll definitely fall off wagon - as I have done over and over and over again

Why can't i just be naturally skinny

Are you finding the low carb/gi diet easier to do long term than atkins?

i've just had a slice of cheese and for the first time in years didn't feel guilty - mmmm

mrsboogie · 10/04/2010 20:12

I think you need to think of different things as treats - like almonds or olives or yummy cheese rather than chocolate or biscuits.

I am planning to stay on induction for the foreseeable future- I need to lose 4 stone so it will be months.

unfortunately pebbles77 I don't think it works that you can have a bad weekend then go back on induction phase. You will end up going one step forward two steps back and not lose any real amount of weight. You have to keep up the fat burning process.

We need to ask ourselves which we want more - to be slim and healthy or to eat that piece of cake or drink that glass of wine.

Sorry I haven't been on this thread for ages. mrsboogie (and everyone else!) you seem to be doing brilliantly and what a great loss so far.

I don't know if you ever managed to get a chance to look on the Go Lower website but I have recently found out that because I do the diet already I can get a discount for anyone I recommend so you could get 10% off your order which can't be bad! You just need to give my name.

mrsboogie · 13/04/2010 12:43

thanks mummymels

10lbs now!!

I did look at the website and might give it a go sometime when I am off the induction stage

how expensive is it?

OP posts:
pebbles77 · 13/04/2010 12:56

wow well done mrs boogie, 10lbs is amazing
i'm on day 3 and had a sneaky peak this morning (naughty i know) and have lost 2lbs already. Chuffed to bits.

So far so good and no side effects or cravings yet.

simmo39 · 13/04/2010 22:09

Well done fellow Low carbers nice to hear it is working for you all too. The only thing I really miss is crisps, I have some similar from GoLower which are ok they are a bit like quavers.

mrsboogie · 13/04/2010 22:16

it's so hard to resist the temptation to weigh yourself!

OP posts:
pebbles77 · 14/04/2010 12:19

Tell me about it. I want to weigh every day.

Bizarely and i certainly didn't think i'd find this difficult but the thing i miss the most is fruit!!! I do like my fruit but i thought it was far too healthy for me to get cravings for
