need to lose at least 4 stone

FacePalm · 08/03/2010 12:06

I have had two children in 26 months, and my youngest is 8 months old. I have actually put on a stone since she was born! I also breastfeed! So , so much for that!

Anyway, last week I was 14 stone 3lbs! The heaviest I have ever been in my life!

I decided I really needed to do something about it properly this time. I want to lose at least 4 stone, initially, which will give me a bmi of 25.

I have started SlimFast, and in the first week have lost 6lbs.

It is going ok for me so far, I was a terrible eater in the day, would barely eat till the afternoon, when I might have some toast or a sandwich, but then once dh was home from work, eat a huge evening meal or take out, crisps, chocolate!

So, now I am having the meal replacement bars for Breakfast and lunch, and 3 snacks a day and trying to drink lots of water, then a 600 calorie evening meal.

I hate how I look at the moment. I have suffered quite badly with PND since my youngest was born, and part of this has manifested itself into my fear of leaving the house on my own with my two children. I think, that the fact that I hate how I look, and think people are laughing at me because of this, does not really help me recover.

So, I hope you all do not mind me joining you in this section.

Hiya sounds like you've had a tough time. Believe me, you never look as bad as you think you do and NO ONE is going to be laughing at you because of a few extra stone you may be carrying. I take it you have seeked help and advice about your PND? The main thing is to be healthy in your mnd before you can start to address your eating habbits.

Well done on losing the 6LBS that's something you should be really proud of!

I am currently healthyeating and excercising to lose around 3 stone in time for September this year, not sure how realistic that goal is but that means I have enough time to sensible lose 1.5-2 lbs a week so that's hopefully what will happen. I am not giving in this time. I can not carry on squeezing myself into clothes and hating the way my legs and hips look in everything I wear!

I am in similar situation to you. I eat very poorly throughout the day, basically justsnack on junk and carbs, then ds goes to bed, dh comes home from work and we order a Curry or Pizza . It can not continue cos I feel crap.

I started healthy eating before Christmas and lost 10lbs but of course over Christmas ate junk and put on a couple of Lbs. I am determined now though to make the changes for the long haul.

My main problem is I have a huge appitie an I tend to eat far too much, then feel guilty about it!

Better go cos DS is whinging to go play but thought I'd say hi and ask if I can join and maybe we can help eachother a bit! x

FacePalm · 08/03/2010 12:54

oh, yes, I saw the gp before Christmas, and I see a counsellor now, I also have a Home Start volunteer come once a week, and we attend a playgroup.

So, I feel, that I am in a place now where I can tackle my weight, and start to feel better about myself.

Would be lovely to help each other, i really need to change my eating habits and learn about portion control!!! I could eat one huge pizza to myself im sure!

OP posts:
meandjoe · 08/03/2010 13:28

Oh I know what you mean about portion sizes. I HAVE eaten a Domino's large Pizza all to myself (plus potato wedges for a starter). Problem is DH can eat like a pig and never gains a single pound so he orders a large pizza for us both and me being the greedy guzzler that I am, can not resist. I am changing though. I think my main problem is that I don't actually know when I am hungry. I tend to just never turn down food and in reality, the amount I eat is and the things I eat are just so unhealthy.

Like you though I put weight on AFTER ds was born. Only gained 10lbs in pregnancy and he was 8lbs 10oz of that but I got depressed and stayed inside a lot too. (Ds was a VERY difficult baby who basically cried and screamed for the first year no matter what we did we could not do anything to make him happy so going anywhere with him was just far too stressful). I shut myself away and ate. With hindsight it was the worst thing I could have done. I wish I would have just been honest with the outside world and said how difficult he was and how miserable we all were but I didn't.

Fast forward to now when ds is the most adorable 2.6 yr old but I have the ugliest ass and thighs in the world.

Trouble is that ds constantly wants to bake and cook with me which is lovely but he maybe eats one of the muffins we bake... I eat the other 11 and any left over cake mix! It is just ridiculous how much I can actually eat! Think we both just have to be really sensible about this and I need to stop making excuses. For the past 3 months I have been starting my det 'tomorrow' .

meandjoe · 08/03/2010 13:31

diet not det

FacePalm · 08/03/2010 13:40

oh, cakes! that became my recent obsession! I learnt how to make chocolate cola cake! not good at all! And banana cupcakes with cinnamon honey icing! Not even for an occasion, I would just bake! Then of course, eat!

I have been the same, say I am starting a diet, but jumped at the smallest suggestion of a take out, and then put weight on!

I am determined, I go back to work soon, and really cannot go back into the same size scrubs as when i left 8 months pregnant! Or even worse! bigger!!

OP posts:
meandjoe · 08/03/2010 17:39

Right well sounds like we both wnt the same things... LET'S DO IT THIS TIME!

I will probably need a stern talking to every now and then when I am tempted by the Dairy Milk or the cakes. By the way, those Banana cupcakes sound delicious PLEASE NO MATTER HOW MUCH I BEG YOU, DO NOT GIVE IT TO ME! lol.

Trickiest time of the day for me now when me and DS are having tea and then when he goes to bed I just snack all the time!

joooce · 08/03/2010 18:14

Sorry to butt in but i'm in the exact same situation. After going through a recent trauma, i weighed at 14. 2 stone this morning. And not only do i eat as many cakes as i can lay hands on, but cheese is top of my bedtime routine- dd in bed cheese board out. Accompanied by glass of wine *2 and have resolved to lose significant weight by my birthday 6th july. I have been invited to sw with a friend on thursday and am ashamed to say that on knowing that thursday was the deadline i have gorged on take out, french fancies and the inevitable - camembert.

meandjoe · 08/03/2010 20:27

Oh Joooce I LOVE CHEESE too! Crikey I just like everything that's bad for me! Sorry to hear you've had a bad time. Hopefully you can start to look to the future now and look after yourself.

I have spent the last 3 months binging thinking this is the last night before the healthy eating begins...... Sadly it has just never happened so everynight I am just eating crap and waking up and eating more crap the next day, whilst getting bigger and bigger . Don't feel too bad about the french fancies and takeout, time to move on and put it behind you!

FacePalm · 08/03/2010 21:15

ooh, cheese is the best! mmmm

I need to stop finishing of ds's meals when he does not finish them! I'm making sure I put it straight in the bin as soon as he is finished!

I actually quite like the meal replacement bars, i do not get the slimfast ones, I get the tesco own versions, as it is 2 boxes for £3.75 as opposed to one box for the same price of the Slimfast. I know this way is not for everyone, but I feel it may work for me, as I know what I can have. I find it very easy to lie to myself about points values on something like WW that I have tried a couple of times before!

There have been a few times lately, we have had our evening meal about 7pm, then around midnight, felt peckish, so got takeout!

I am 14 stone 8 pound.... and dream of losing 3 stone....

Since november last year i have been starting a diet tomorro... so i binge like crazy thinking about the diet that never arrives...

and i couldnt start today because to start a diet on a monday is just asking to fail!!!!!

joooce · 09/03/2010 09:09

I know- monday diets never work. Couldn't agree more chocolate. But as meandjoe says its time to stop whining about how fat we are and reminising about cheese take out and cake, perhaps an idea would be to start the diet. See how we go. And keep each other away from the dreaded french fancies.
We can do it!

meandjoe · 09/03/2010 12:12

Hell oladies! How is everyone doing? I was very good yesterday and the day before so I am fairly proud of myself. Have been swimming this morning too so had a bit of excercise for a change!

Had a very healthy breakfast of scambled egg on one slice wholemeal toast. Decided not to use any margerine or spread on the toast and suprisingly, I couldn't tell the difference so I hope little changes like that will be more sustainable and hopefully all add up to make a difference!

bloomingnora · 09/03/2010 13:00

Please can I join you? I am currently 15 stone 9lb. Can't believe how scary it is to type that. My third child is 10 weeks old and I am starting to feel like it is time to tackle the baby weight - all two stone of it After I've got rid of that I would like to lose another 3 stone but would be happy for any of it to go!

I lost lots of weight after the first baby with Slimming World (about 3 stone) and then after the second baby doing the Paul McKenna 'I can make you thin' book and CD (3.5 stone). The lowest weight I have been in 10 years is 11 stone 9lb and I feel like I have wasted my adult life hating my body.

I know that when I am a little slimmer and a little fitter I feel better - once I start I can usually get into it but can't seem to start this time. The breastfeeding isn't knocking any off this time either Hopefully posting this will be the first step to success! I'm aiming to eat slightly smaller portions, drink more water and move a bit more to start with as I don't want to be too restrictive while DS2 is feeding.

FacePalm · 09/03/2010 13:05

I had light bran flakes with skimmed milk for breakfast, a couple of rivetas with extra light cheese spread for mid morning snack.

About to have lunch, and i shall have a meal replacement bar, then a mid afternoon snack later on.

Healthy stir fry for dinner with chicken and plenty of veg and noodles, works out at just under 600 calories. Then i can have a late evening snack after that!

Making sure I drink plenty of water too throughout the day.

It is the little changes I think as you say meandjoe, like i have started using skimmed milk, and only having a cup of tea with my mid morning and afternoon snacks, water otherwise.

FacePalm · 09/03/2010 13:11

bloomingnora ofc you are welcome! I have an 8 month old, and I bf her, and I have put weight on! Do not know if I can call it baby weight if it is weight I put on after I had the baby!

I think a lot of it with myself and dh, is portion control! We would eat huge meals, and think it was normal, and I would be surprised how little someone else would have as a meal! But it is easy to get into, slowly over the years, and then that becomes what you are used to!

All the small changes you want to make will add up and make a difference. As you say, you are breastfeeding a tiny baby, so have to be careful, but the, eating healthier will have a good impact too.

I think one of the reasons I am determined this time, after many stops and starts, is, my oldest is 2, and as he gets older, I want to be able to keep up with him, and be a good example, he eats very healthily, but I want to be able to bring him up with healthy eating parents! Not parents that get take out once he is in bed!

OP posts:
bloomingnora · 09/03/2010 13:16

I can so relate to wanting to keep up with them. Although I have managed to get fitter in between the kids it has never been quite enough. I feel like I go from overweight to ooh, overweight by not quite so much! I really do want to stop being the fat mum in the playground.

When I am working I cycle eight miles a day which helps but at the moment I am finding that I am so tired that I just want to stuff my face past the point where it is comfortable all the bloody time. I know what you mean about portion control too. Far more than we need then often have chocolate/toast later in the evening. Luckily DH has a very physical job or he would be a total bloater!

FacePalm · 09/03/2010 14:17

yeah, I had two children quite close together, fell pregnant with dd when ds was only 7 months old, and I was still on mat leave! I was only back at work 3 months before I went off on mat leave again. And while I was at work, at least I would be walking a fair bit, pushing beds etc, so I think that has also had a major impact. Although, if I am honest, my weight had started to creep up before children!

OP posts:
joooce · 09/03/2010 14:25

My dd is almost two, well come july. And she can get up the stairs faster than i can catch her. I too had egg on toast this morning. But have since been to work and am starving now on my way home having resisted snacking. But it means i will have dinner at 3-4 and then won't be hungry til nine at which point it'll be too late to cook so yet again i'll be looking to gorge. Stir fry sounds like a great option at that point- nice suggestion face.

simmo39 · 09/03/2010 21:52

Can I please join, put on most of my weight after 2 DC, tried so many diets and got so depressed about my weight and body shape.
Although I have lost over a stone still have 4 plus to go.
Am doing a LC carb diet with a company called GoLower, they deliver the food to you. So far its working out well, but always concious that I might fall off the diet wagon. This forum has been really helping me to stay motivated. Never tried doing this before one of my friends suggested it and now I am addicted to logging on!

bloomingnora · 10/03/2010 12:53

Weighed myself this morning and have lost 1.5 pounds! Very pleased - it has spurred me on to do well today. Just had a lovely veg and rice noodle stir fry for lunch - thanks for that idea, I'd forgotten how yummy it is. Also turned down biscuits and had oat cakes midmorning [virtuous/smug emoticon]

Must try not to weigh myself too frequently though. I am as bad for that as I am for early pregnancy testing! At least I know that I am having no more children now so any weight I lose should hopefully stay off. Hope every one else is doing well

MathsMadMummy · 10/03/2010 13:15

Hello
Can I please join you lovely people?
I have DD, 2.9, and DS, 6m. Would like to lose about 5st.

I don't eat too badly although have overindulged on treats lately as I'm a bit down TBH. I'm just trying to gradually change my habits (seen my mum yoyo dieting which put me off anything extreme!). For instance during 2nd PG I learnt - mostly because DS was taking up so much room - that I don't have to finish what's on my plate!!!

My bigger problem is exercise. Like PP I'm finding it incredibly hard to take my 2 kids out on my own. Kinda wish I'd got a double buggy but I know DD would refuse it anyway. I love walking but it's slow with DD trotting along beside me! Looking forward to when she starts nursery.

I've until now avoided this particular section of MN but sod it. Let's help each other

FacePalm · 10/03/2010 13:26

simmo39 - ofc you are welcome, I had been looking at something similar to what you mention, but it was with diet chef..but I'm going to see how the SlimFast goes first and it seems to be going ok so far.

bloomingnora - Well done! I am terrible for weighing myself too! ( I did 14 tests for ds, but if dh asks, it was 3!! )

Welcome MathsMadMummy - I struggle with exercise too, when I return to work, it will get better, as I walk there and back, so about 45 mins each way, so will make a huge difference!

Anyway, today I have had a yoghurt coated raspberry cereal meal replacement bar, then a banana for mid morning snack, just had a bowl of vegetable soup, will have a couple of riveta's with cheese spread on for an afternoon snack, and for dinner we are having chicken wraps with plenty of salad. With a small drizzle of salad dressing, will be 650 calories.

I do not have the SlimFast everyday, but make sure I stay within the calories, a 200 cal breakfast and lunch, then 3 100 cal snacks, and a 600 calorie evening meal, which is actually easier than I thought to manage! Just a little tweak here and there and smaller portions

OP posts:
simmo39 · 10/03/2010 14:20

FacePalm - not heard of diet chef was it a LC diet? Best of luck with slim fast, if it doesn't work out and you want to try GoLower let me know as if I refer you I can get you 10% off.
I have tried slimfast before and it did work unfortunately I piled the weight back on after. I liked the milkshakes though nice & cold with lots of ice....

FacePalm · 10/03/2010 15:40

Diet Chef is a low GI diet I think, basically, they send you all the meals and it is about 1200 calories a day.

I think it is similar in that you get all your meals and snacks delivered to your door in hampers.

Tbh, these were the only ones I had really looked into as the only ones I had heard of.

Shall go and have a look at GoLower

Heres the link - www.golower.co.uk
Might be better if you are interested to give them a call as they can provide you with a personal quote and info.
I have found the counsellor service invaluable and highly recommend them...
Have been on the diet now for 6 weeks and have lost 23 1/2 pounds.
