Mad as a March hare or dozy like a dormouse?!

BecauseImWorthIt · 28/02/2010 12:28

So the challenge continues.

March has 4.5 weeks. You can aim for 2lbs a week, or the more dozy 1lb a week - either way, that's a good loss for the month.

Any plan/diet is welcome - just sign up here for the solidarity/support/encouragement/kick up the backside (delete as appropriate).

We don't use actual weight (unless you want to), but a points system. If you're joining us/starting from tomorrow, you start on 100 points. Every pound you lose is one point gone.

You can weigh in as often as you like, but just remember to update the list!

Here's the list from February - please add your name and c+p it into the next thread:

That's bizarre about the mushrooms - I'd been avoiding them as I thought they were carby ( though hadn't actually checked - duhh) Will definately try that though.
I do need more water, definately not as good as I was on that. Hmm. Have been walking every day, though probably not sweating enough
OK thanks for the motivational talk thereistheball - I WILL TRY HARDER [GRIN]

Another 5lbs and that will be 2 stone since Christmas, and that would just be so exciting
Dont' have a tape measure though my clothes are seriously baggy and I have already ditched some jeans to the recycling, so it's not all bad

HinnyPet · 19/03/2010 20:35

Does anybody fancy pasting that creamed mushroom recipe? Have no proper Internet access here, I'm just on my phone!

bubble2bubble · 19/03/2010 21:00

here you go:

"I really don't know how it works, but it DOES. like magic. Portabella mushrooms (especially the baby ones) are the key to me (aka Crimini mushrooms).

You can buy them whole or already sliced. The sliced ones dry out a bit more but they're still lovely.

Remember that mushrooms are mostly little sponges full of water, so you have to make a lot to get a good serving. Plus, the mushrooms soak up all the spices you can throw at it, so feel free to experiment. Below is my fav flavor combination.

Take your largest skillet and add about 2 tbsp of butter, let that melt. Then I take either dried pepper powder (like chipotle pepper dried to a powder or a chipotle pepper sauce, like the Tabasco brand) and add it to the butter, letting it incorporate.

I like chipotle peppers (smoked, dried jalapeno peppers) because they add smokey warmth without OW!HOT! sharpness.

Then add in enough sliced mushrooms to fill the pan in one layer. I stir them about to coat then I grate fresh nutmeg on top (nutmeg goes so well with mushrooms). I let it cook, stirring occasionally, adding a bit more nutmeg when it seems to need a bit more.

Then when it's cooked down and soft, I take a spatula and pull the mushrooms to one pile in the skillet and pour on 2-3 tbsp of double cream. I stir the whole thing around and let it cook down to a thick gravy consistency, the pour it onto a plate.

I sometimes have it with a nice steak or minced beef or just by itself. Yum!
"

thereistheball · 20/03/2010 07:47

God, sorry, I was in a hurry last night and didn't mean to sound so bossy! Anyway hope it was helpful. Am going to try the mushrooms myself this weekend. Let's see if they live up to their reputation.

bubble2bubble · 20/03/2010 09:22

LOL bossy is exactly what I need at the moment!
Could actually do with someone bossy coming to stay for a few days to keep me on the straight & narrow

thereistheball · 20/03/2010 16:38

Well don't ask me. I had a slice of chocolate birthday cake this morning (not my birthday so no real excuse :-(

Oh no, have I killed this thread? Come back people!

New list below. My medication seems to be working, am another 1.5lb down this week, making 15 in total. Have broken the stone barrier!

Well done thereistheball - over a stone!

I'm down 2lbs this week - updated list below. Went away at the weekend and 'cheated' for the first time with a few (and I do mean about 10) chips by the seaside. I was convinced that this would derail me entirely and I would put it all back on...
..I may need to calm down. Just a tad.

Anyone seen the new Atkins diet (apologies in advance for linking to the Daily Mail, ) It looks v.similiar to the Idiot Proof diet to me.

Thanks for the Atkins link Quibbler. I've only looked at the IPD so this made me realise how limited the original version was. No wonder MIL was worried about bowel cancer. This version will be right up her street.

Well done both of you btw.

BecauseImWorthIt · 23/03/2010 23:20

Hello. I'm back! I finally got on the scales, and it wasn't too bad - but then had a horrendous weekend. Trip to my family to celebrate niece and nephew's 18th and 21st birthdays resulted in a wrecked diet. Food provided was all carbs - not a bit of salad in sight!

So I was badly behaved all weekend after that.

Started on Monday with real, hardcore low carb (3 Day Experiment - only lean protein, no fat, max 5g carbs per day).

Have completed day 2, despite being on the road/staying in swanky hotel.

Hope it pays off and will be weighing in again on Friday.

OP posts:
mejon · 25/03/2010 12:41

I've not been officially weighing in this week (or last). Have added then lost the same 2 or 3lbs and I've been a bit undisciplined this week - I had to do a trial run of the tiffin I wanted to make for the pre-school Easter Fair - someone had to eat it and I'm afraid that was me (though thankfully helped by DD and DH). Going to try hard for next week.

Hope you've had success this week BIWI.

theQuibbler · 25/03/2010 15:34

I've been really slack about exercising, recently. Much as I want to think otherwise, going for walks and running around with small child isn't going to actually shift any of this lard. And I'm getting a bit bored with my Davina DvD's, unfortunately.

So, I've made an appointment at the gym (which I pay for monthly, and haven't used for, I don't want to think how long ) on Wednesday to get a new programme and start working out properly. I hate (hate, hate, hate) going to the gym, but know from my previous incarnation as a fit, toned, healthy, thin person, that it does work for me.

Tiffin sounds lovely, Mejon. I think you get a free pass on tasting that! Good luck to you and BIWI for next week

isnowsoonenough · 26/03/2010 13:34

I have removed myself from the list ATM. Will restart again in April (or Sep or next year...)

Well done Brollyflower.

My weekend has been shit. That's to say I've been shit, the weekend was nice. But ultimately (and on top of normal low-carb rations) I have eaten one wholewheat muffin, 6 or 7 mini-eggs, a biggish plate of rice with associated sweet things (no idea what they were, just ate them), a pain au chocolat, and about 3 bottles of wine.

Drawing a line under it and starting again tomorrow.

Could kick myself though.

HinnyPet · 28/03/2010 21:19

Found it!
Well DH and I went out on a stag/hen do in Newcastle all day and night yesterday, I ate nothing carby but the amount of wine and vodka I managed was staggering. Hence being sick all night and feeling poo all day, DS's birthday party too!
I am now 11st 4, and weight seems to be gradually coming off.
I've lost 31lbs, (getting there) so HinnyPet 69

theQuibbler · 29/03/2010 09:24

2lbs this week. And I'm also - psychologicaly important to me - down into the next number on the scales.

Good job, brollyflower. As long as it's a downward trend, that's all that matters.

As long as you start again, TITB, that's what counts. Good luch for next wekk.

Hope you've recovered Hinnypet, it does like fun, and well done on your losses.

BIWI - will you be putting up a new thread for April, please?

I?ve not been around for a while as been really busy with work etc and miss my chatting time so it?s nice to be back. I hope everyone are doing well and I apologise that I would never be able to catch up on missed news so could someone fill me in if I have missed anything major please.

The last couple of weeks I have just lost 1/2 lb each week so weight loss really slowed down.

Having said that, from this week now I am not eating mainly the Go Lower food anymore, I'm making mostly my own food too. Well, I have just started doing this since Monday so it's still new and we'll see how it goes. I have to admit the first couple of days I haven't been very good. It must be the freedom lol! We have had a religious holiday which involved a big family meal and I was very naughty and indulged in one roast potato each of the two days. Feeling a bit guilty now but couldn't say no.
