Mad as a March hare or dozy like a dormouse?!

BecauseImWorthIt · 28/02/2010 12:28

So the challenge continues.

March has 4.5 weeks. You can aim for 2lbs a week, or the more dozy 1lb a week - either way, that's a good loss for the month.

Any plan/diet is welcome - just sign up here for the solidarity/support/encouragement/kick up the backside (delete as appropriate).

We don't use actual weight (unless you want to), but a points system. If you're joining us/starting from tomorrow, you start on 100 points. Every pound you lose is one point gone.

You can weigh in as often as you like, but just remember to update the list!

Here's the list from February - please add your name and c+p it into the next thread:

Thereistheball ? hopefully the medication will kick in soon and you?ll be feeling better.

HinnyPet ? Carrot cake could be worse. Could be double chocolate cake!

Ok day here. Looking forward to my snack this evening. Got some Go Lower chocolate brazils. One of my favourites of the snacks.

HinnyPet · 13/03/2010 12:56

What I really want to know is how come I have put on a pound when I am so dedicated????

amazonianwoman · 14/03/2010 16:01

Rubbish rubbish rubbish week, totally fallen off the wagon, didn't weigh in on Friday but reckon I've put on 2 lbs

Back onto hardcore low carbs tomorrow...

theQuibbler · 14/03/2010 18:14

Could be water retention, HinnyPet? The scales went up for me last week and I hadn't been cheating at all. It really annoyed me, to be honest, but it went away overnight and so far I'm down 2.5 this week. So don't be too disheartened.

I hope this week goes better for you AW.

Good to hear that you're doing well mummymels, you're always so encouraging to others - thanks

I'm feeling pretty good, today. I'm about to hit the 2 stone mark, 28lbs! (started 2nd or third week of Jan, I think). I should get there this week/next week. I'm embarrassed and a bit ashamed to say that I've got another 3 stone to go - how the hell did I let myself get so fat? But whatever. I'm doing something about it now and I already feel better about myself and with the exercise, much fitter as well - I think I can do it

So glad I found this thread - focusing on it month by month and reading everyone's journey seems makes this a feasible road for me.

BecauseImWorthIt · 14/03/2010 18:16

2 stones!!! Really, really well done.

I wish I had been so dedicated. I haven't weighed myself for a couple of weeks now, because I've just been fannying around really.

But I'm cross with myself and I need to get shot of some weight, so I'm going to get a grip and re-engage with this challenge tomorrow.

OP posts:
mummymels · 14/03/2010 20:36

HinnyPet ? It?s frustrating sometimes isn?t it when we feel as if we have had a good week and yet the scales don?t show any loss. I don?t know why that happens sometimes but hopefully next week will make up for it and you?ll lose doubly.

Amazonianwoman ? Oh dear, put that one behind you. Good luck with your new start tomorrow.

theQuibbler ? Don?t be so hard on yourself. It?s amazing how quickly the weight can pile on without us realising it. But you are nearly half way to your goal now which is brilliant especially as you are losing it so fast too. You must be feeling great. I had lots to lose too but it?s such a good feeling when it comes off.

BecauseImWorthIt ? Good luck with starting again tomorrow.

Posting update today, not tomorrow, as got on the scales this am, and they were good to me, so I'm going to stick with that

Thanks BIWI and mummymels and wishing everyone has a good week.

I'm going to up my exercise again, over the next seven days, as I was a little bit slack last week, and it does make a difference. Not least to my mood - makes me feel more energised.

HinnyPet · 15/03/2010 16:58

Well I have knacked it today, eaten chicken nuggets and a cadbury's flake dessert, and a twix finger too!
My excuse?? Poorly little tired and crying boy plus stressed me equals fridge raiding.
Bugger. Don't dare weigh this week!

WilfSell · 15/03/2010 20:17

Totally OFF wagon yesterday (mother's day cake, chinese takeaway etc) but not bad as this was first off day since I started in Jan, and am being disciplined today.

But lost a coupla pounds over last week anyway so still going in the right direction I think!

Hi! I'm back on MN after a visit from the inlaws which was nice but tiring. They were quite judgmental about my low-carb way of eating despite being impressed by the results, so I spent a lot of time trying to convince them of the benefits of what I was serving them without really getting anywhere. Looking forward to an uncomplicated TV supper tonight

Otherwise, good news! I've lost the 2lb I put on 2 weeks ago plus another 2, taking me to 13.5lb down overall - only half a pound away from a stone! 4lb in a week feels very good after a few weeks of not getting very far. It might be down to the HRT I've started taking this week to help with the thyroid problem I was diagnosed with, but I had expected it to take longer to work than this so it might also be good luck dedication.

Anyway I'm updating the list below. Hope everyone is doing well after the temptations of Mother's Day.

HinnyPet · 17/03/2010 18:46

I am not doing well at all and have put another pound on! 2lb in a week!!!! arghhhhhh
I am not cheating, no bread, pasta, rice or potatoes and no sugar in coffee, WTF am I doing wrong? I do have the odd slice of cake, once a week maybe? I can't put on 2lb due to cake though can I?
I'm off to Aquafit in a huff

thereistheball · 18/03/2010 12:05

Sorry to hear that Hinny. I wouldn't have thought a weekly slice of cake would have that drastic an effect. But being due to get your period might, or not drinking enough water, or eating hidden sugar (by drinking cow's milk, for instance, rather than soya milk), or drinking too much alcohol. Also, weight loss is not linear, as we know, so it might just be a normal fluctuation. Maybe try to be strict for a few days to see if that makes the difference?

Aquafit sounds fun! Exercise always cheers me up.

HinnyPet · 18/03/2010 19:50

Different aquafit teacher last night, boy did she work us hard, the caramel square nicked from DS was definately worked off.
Must be premenstrual....banoffee pie in John Lewis was sooo nice, esp after being really strict all day! Lol I have no sodding willpower.
I keep thinking "tomorrow is another day" and I'll start again being strict but minty chocolate and puddings are my weakness. I need professional help for my addiction!!!!!!!

pollywollydoodle · 18/03/2010 20:47

hinny, if it's any help i carry a small box of Halter sugar free liquorice sweets with me ...they have a really strong taste and nothing sweet tastes right afterwards

HinnyPet · 18/03/2010 21:25

Aha! Good thinking but I can't stand liquorice ha!!

theQuibbler · 18/03/2010 21:54

I've got a dreadful cold - the upside of which is I can't smell anything, so have no great appetite.

Downside is that I am craving something soothing, like a big bowl of pasta covered in creamy tomato sauce and heaps of cheese

Luckily, I'm too lazy to actually get up and cook it

pollywollydoodle (hi) do you know if those sweets come in any other flavour? I'm looking for something like that, as I went to buy some sugar free chewing gum, checked the list on the pack and was astonished to find they have 64g of carbs per 100g Talk about hidden carbs.

pollywollydoodle · 18/03/2010 23:13

there are loads of different ones but i would only buy the liqorice, the others taste very artificial. thesesula ones which they stock in holland and barrett are much nicer...about 10 cals a sweet.cappuccino and fruit mix are faves of mine

mummymels · 19/03/2010 02:53

HinnyPet ? Hope things get better for you.

WillSelf ? One day off in 3 months is brill. You deserve it.

Pollywollydoodle ? Well done on your loss.

Bubble2bubble ? Maybe you are nearer to your goal weight now so loss has slowed down.

Superstrawberry ? Hopefully now that AF is here you will lose again.

Thereistheball ? MIL?s are hard work! Pleased you are back to normal now though.

TheQuibbler ? Hope you feel better soon.

bubble2bubble · 19/03/2010 09:00

Mummymels you are so kind but I've still got more than 2 stone to go It's been weeks now and I seem to be totally stuck.

Has anyone else plateaued for weeks & managed to start the weight moving again?? How do you do it??

HinnyPet · 19/03/2010 16:12

WTF goes on in our bodies?? I was 11st10 on Monday and now I am 11st6, how can that be? Water retention eh? This means now less than a stone to go to my 10st7 target, will officially stop whinging now, thanks laydees

thereistheball · 19/03/2010 18:56

Hinnypet, that's great! Water retention is a bugger. Hope that's the motivation you need to keep on going?

bubble2bubble - are you low-carbing? If so then yes, people do stall for weeks. It's very common to do this about 6-12 weeks in. Once you are absolutely sure you are not cheating in any way (are you drinking the water? are you doing the exercise? are you scrupulous about avoiding sugar? etc etc) then there are three things that I know of to do.

Number 1: take your measurements. You might not be losing weight but you may nonetheless be losing centimetres. Check your waist, your hips, your bust, your arms, your thighs and anything else you want. I did this on the day I started the diet and have lost a total of 10cm from my waist so far. On days I feel as if I'm not getting anywhere I can look at this and feel positive.

Number 2: do a big spurt of exercise. Go to the gym, do a DVD at home, whatever - but get your heart moving and your body sweating. This might kick-start things if you've been a bit lax on the exercise front.

Number 3: I have no idea if this works from personal experience, but others on the forum swear by it so if you are low-carbing it might be worth giving it a try. Register and search for Carly's Creamed Mushrooms. They got her out of a stall and it seemed to have worked for others too. Might be worth a go if you're certain that nothing else is working.

Good luck!
