Having cranked (literally) out 2 DC in 18 months, youngest nearly 2, I feel its about time get my "I'm a lady" head back on and finally stop avoiding reflective surfaces... I'm 5ft 1" and 8st 11lb and would like to be 8st 2lb which is easier said than done.. major driver is a big big big job interview in three months - somehow I feel that if I'm back at my pre-kid weight I will be back at my pre-kid brain-power (phnarrghaha etc)so ..hhhm - where to start? not really done diets before but need something structured to stick to.. Thinking of the special K plan with added salad?! Ideally I want a nutrionist MNer to post me up some strict instructions - but in the absence of that am going to go Special K + fruit, Special K +veg , decent healthy meal, cut boooze and treats and see how we go.. anyone on for it?!

Prinnie- I wish I was you

Yesterday I was 13st 2lbs so a 4lb loss in total. Hoping to be under 13st by Friday.

Feel massive in comparison to everyone else.

I find it really hard because sometimes I am really good and have actually put on when I weigh myself due to weight fluctuations then I get really disheartened and give up! I think what's helping this time is all the walking I've been doing. But it's half term this week and the dc's have all been vommiting so not been doing much. Went for a 4 mile walk/jog on Saturday though and I think I will try to take them out this afternoon for a walk with buggy.

Keep going everyone!!

Prinnie · 17/02/2010 18:08

Right, I've had 2 good (ish) days now so feeling a bit more inspired to keep on track How is everyone else doing? Is it just me and notmymonster left?

Btw - good going notmymonster I'll keep my fingers x'd for you ready for Friday Fluctuations are really annoying aren't they.

Come on everyone go go go!!!! [tries to be motivating]

EVye · 17/02/2010 18:50

Can I join you?

I am 5'2 and over 11 stone .

I have vowed to cut out cakes and chocolate for lent. And I have decided today to eat my dinner off a side plate rather than a dinner plate. Portion sizes are my downfall. However I have just eaten sweet & sour chicken (small portion) and feel ok.

In about 2 hours I will be starving as I normally eat my main meal at 8-8.30 and have a big portion. Eek.

Today I have eaten pizza & salad for lunch and then my dinner tonight. But I forgot breakfast which I guess is bad

Prinnie · 17/02/2010 19:13

Yes, welcome EVye Sounds like you've made a good start I find my danger zone is the 5pm - 7pm post work, starving, tired time - I think I've eaten an extra 200 calories in this zone today!

EVye · 17/02/2010 21:31

Thanks for the welcome. I've done well since dinner but am now starting to get a bit peckish. I think it is boredom as DH is away.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 18/02/2010 00:41

Hi all

I'm still here Prinnie. And hello to you Evye.

I've been super good this week I even met a chum for lunch yesterday and we both had salads and rye toast.

I have also run twice and I'm still off the booze.

I BET that I wont have lost an ounce. Just like last week

Prinnie · 18/02/2010 21:31

Hi Claudia - I've got everything crossed for you tomorrow! It sounds like you've done excellently.

I've had another good day, but AF started today and I have a stomach that's as bloated as a house so not holding out too much hope for what the scales say, but then at least when AF's over I might get a super good result?!

EVye · 19/02/2010 09:04

Hi all

I weighed myself today and I am 70.9 kg. I think I was more like 73 last week so perhaps the smaller portions and no cakes are working!

thatsnotmymonster · 19/02/2010 14:06

Hey EVye- that's great that's about 4.5lbs!

I did my weigh in today 13st 0.5lbs! So still feeling quite good! That's 1.5lbs loss since Monday and 5.5 altogether.

Am really hoping for under 13st by Mon but got a big night out on Sat so will be happy just to maintain. I will try to be extra good the rest of the weekend.

Am trying to give up chocolate for lent but have had 1 choc finger and one choc digestive this week- though that's pretty good for me! Today I have had my slim shake with 1/2 a banana for breakfast and some carrot sticks. That's it so far. Am drinking water. Might have another slimshake now for lunch and some fruit.

Prinnie- I had AF when we started- I hope that's not why I've lost so much! Hope your weigh in goes well toda!

Prinnie · 19/02/2010 17:37

Right. Weighed in this morning - 8st 8lb - so an extra 0.25 of lb since Monday and +1lb overall, BUT I had an swful starting week and now AF is here....so really hoping to be back to 8st 7 on Monday. Fingers crossed and I'm not going to get dishearted..yet

Well done EVye & notmymonster they're great results.

Best of luck with the night out monster - try and sneak in a diet soft drink or two when no one's looking (if only I followed my own advice!)

EVye · 19/02/2010 17:43

I'm off out tonight too so I imagine the alcohol and food may undo my hard work.

thatsnotmymonster · 19/02/2010 18:10

Prinnie, am sure you will be 8,7 or less by Monday/after AF. Don't get disheartened.

At least we are not eating out! I think I will try to follow your advice, I am on a tight budget too so a soft drink every time it's my round might be a great idea- diet lemonade- will just say it's a G&T!!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 19/02/2010 22:01

Howdy everyone

I weiged myself today and am 9.0. I have lost 1lb in the last 2 weeks. Which frankly is a bit crap.

Right where am I going wrong.

I exercise 3 x a week run/walk 5K

For breakfast I have museli.

Lunch usually a sandwich - salad and ham for example.

Dinner is sometimes pasta, or a salad.

I try not to snack, although I have been eating fruit and some nuts and raisins. But NO junk. Also I haven't had any booze for almost a month now.

Honestly it should be dropping off me. I do feel a bit more toned but my stomach is just as big as ever.

Anyone got any ideas? I may go no carbs for a few days to see if that helps???

thatsnotmymonster · 20/02/2010 07:58

Claudia- that is crap and tbh that's usually what happens to me! So frustrating- especially when dh just has to eat a few piece's of fruit and drop snacks for a few weeks and loses a stone

I find it's all about the exercise for me. Running/walking 3 times a week is not enough on it's own. You have to run about 3 miles to burn fat and walk over 6 miles a day to burn fat. I think I am only losing now cos I am walking 6 miles most days AND having slimshakes x 2, normal meal and virtually no snacks!

Prinnie · 20/02/2010 16:09

Afternoon all Claudia, I understand your frustration. This is a boring suggestion, but have you tried weighing your museli? It is a healthy option, but quite calorific so you could easily be eating more calories than you think there. Instead of snacking on dried fruit and nuts (again - very easy to eat 200 calories very quickly), have you consider having an apple or carrot as a snack as they are much lower in calories but full of fibre so will help fill you up. Have you switched from whole milk to semi skimmed or skimmed? Could you cut out the butter from your sandwich?

I think your level of exercise is pretty good to be honest - could you add in some strength exercises at home? Squats, lifing some heavy books, lunges, sit ups, push ups etc? 10 mins of this a day could make a difference - strength exercises are underestimated in terms of the way they can boost your metabolism.

Sorry if my post sounds bossy - they're just some ideas Keep going (and 1lb in 2 weeks is still good if you're feeling toned etc.)

thatsnotmymonster · 21/02/2010 16:30

Claudia I didn't mean that losing 1lb was crap btw! Just I understand why you feel frustrated with it cos I would be/am the same! But Prinnie is right- it is still a loss and any loss is good! You are not very heavy and can't need to lose much so you should start to notice it quite soon too. Whereas I have lost nearly half a stone and you can't even tell

EVye · 21/02/2010 16:38

hi. well, my drinking and oveating don't seem to have made much difference as i was 70.8kg this morning. Have decided to use small plate mon-fri and look forward to big portions at the weekend as i'bve felt guilty today, and guilt wont help me keep it up.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 21/02/2010 22:29

Hi girls

Thanks for the advice, I will change my snacks (not much really!) from nuts and raisins to carrot and cucumber sticks yawn yum! I already have semi-skimmed milk but accept that my museli probably is quite high calorie as it's full of lovely fruit and quite delish - amy recommendations for healthy low fat brekkie? Not porridge - I really loath porridge.

Good idea for the strength exercises Prinnie - I'll get the tins out

Blimey thatsnotmymonster, how on earth do you fit 6 mile walks into your day? I've just done my 5k run/walk this morning and were off to playgroup later so maybe we should walk there instead of driving.

Stick with it EVye, see if you can focus on a healthy week this week, and look forward to marginally larger portions at the weekend.

Happy dieting everyone - groan.

Kryptik · 21/02/2010 23:16

Hi can I join please?
I'm 11st and need to lose about 2 stone but am happy to start off by losing 9lbs!

I've just started couch to 5k and am on week 2. I'm hoping this will speed up my weight loss. As for dieting, I'm just going to cut out the crap and stick to about 1400 cals a day.

thatsnotmymonster · 22/02/2010 19:49

Welcome Kryptik! Glad to have someone else who needs to lose more than 9lbs! I also need to lose about 2stone.

Claudia- I have only been doing it a few weeks but I walk to nursery and back twice a day and it amounts to 6 miles. It's 30mins there and 30mins back x 2 so it is quite a lot but it's working and I am really enjoying being out in the fresh air, getting rosy cheeks and generally feel a lot better!
Breakfast ideas- grilled tomatoes/mushrooms on wholemeal toast, scrambled egg on wholemeal toast or wholemeal muffin but no butter, weetabix, low fat yogurt and fruit, banana and skimmed milk blended up...

Anyway I had a not so good weekend- sat was ok in the day but then I went out for a night out and had a bottle of wine and a pint of cider , then a cooked brunch on sunday, a 3.5 mile walk but slow with dc's, and french toast for dinner so the result was that on my weigh in this morning I have gained 1.5lbs- aaaaahhh!!!

Well back to it today- have walked my 6 miles but have had a couple of biscuits so need to be better in cutting out the snacks!

monkeyfacegrace · 22/02/2010 20:14

Hi all can I play too?
Im 5'7" and weigh 131 lb. Ive lost 21 lb over the last 6 weeks, but am losing motivation a bit!
I need to lose another 9 lb to get to my target weight, but want to do it by tomorrow please!!
(BTW you all seem tiny compared to me, I cant believe you are dieting!)

Prinnie · 22/02/2010 20:31

Welcome monkeyfacegrace and Kryptic

Well here's my first bit of good news - AF finally finished, weighed in this morning back to 8st 7lb So now I actually have to lose some weight! 7 weeks until holiday so that's a nice straight 1 pound a week.

I wouldn't worry too much notmymonster - some of that 1.5 will go really quickly and you've done so well so far that I'm sure you'll get back in to it.

I've also found a BRILLIANT new strategy for my danger zone (5pm-7pm after work before DH gets home), I'm always tired and hungry so I'm ignoring the hunger and just go to bed for a sleep instead, then when DH gets home he helps me stay on straight and narrow! I do appreciate that if you have DCs this might not be an available tactic!

Onwards and upwards everyone, thanks for this thread by the way - I'm really enjoying it

Kryptik · 22/02/2010 21:11

thatsnotmymonster its true that 1.5lbs will come off quick. If you gain it quickly, you can lose it quickly.
My clothes are feeling really tight at the moment. I know I've gained weight recently so I'm going to wait til Friday to weigh myself.

thatsnotmymonster · 22/02/2010 22:44

Thanks for the encouragment ladies

Welcome Monkeyfacegrace- you are tiny too having already lost 21lbs in 6 weeks How did you do that??!!???!!

Lol Prinnie- How I wish I could sleep through the 5-7pm hell. Ha ha ha ha ha. I will remind you of this quote one day when you do have kids. Basically you take the tired and hungry that you feel (but a bit more) and then add in very tired and hungry dcs and a million things to do (their tea, baths, jammies, milk, teeth, massive tidy up, stories etc) and then imagine having done this every day for x number of years and your getting close oh to sleep through all of that...bliss

ClaudiaSchiffer · 23/02/2010 07:16

Prinnie one day we should swap, you can have my life between 5 and 7pm and I can have yours

Right, I have made some changes - I bought Special K today so I'll swap my morning fruit laden museli for skinny minny cereal.

Also, inspired by thatsnotmymoster, I walked to Kindy this afternoon to pick dd up. It was great, I'll try to do it weekly if not too hot (Feb in Oz).

Also I am wearing my "fat" jeans . . . but WITH A BELT!

And I spent some hard cash on size 10 clothes of t'internet so have to loose weight or they be too teeny.
