February has four complete weeks, so the aim of this challenge is to lose 8lbs.

How you do it is up to you - I'm a low carber.

We don't use our actual weights,(unless you want to,) but index our loss, so if you're starting tomorrow, your start weight is 100. You drop down one for each pound you lose.

I'm signing in from the 3 week challenge, and will report my weight tomorrow - but for the moment:

Morning all

I have weighed today rather than my normal day of Friday as PIL are taking us out tonight for my birthday, my mum and sis are coming round for a wee drink tomorrow and then we are off to Wales on Friday morning. So since Friday I have lost 1 pound. A total of 5lbs since Jan 4th.

Morning all!

A quick warning for all of you who are low carbing. It is not uncommon for weight loss to stop/slow down in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5 - so don't get too down hearted if this happens.

Stick with it, and the weight will start to shift once you get through this phase.

Don't assume you're doing anything wrong (as long as you know you aren't!).

Still 93 here - although I'm quite thankful of that as my weekend wasn't brilliant, and I ended up having KFC yesterday lunchtime. (I did take as much of the batter off the chicken as I could, but other than half a very dried looking chicken from the hot food concession, this was the only option for me. They didn't even have any salad available.

(One of the reasons my job makes it really awkward!)

Hi all down to 98, just hope it stays off. I can always lose a few pounds first week but it's from then on I start to struggle.

That's brilliant shortandsweet. Have a lovely birthday weekend.

Thanks for the advice BecauseImWorthIt with regards to the weight loss slowing down. A couple of weeks ago I felt disheartened when I had a week only losing a couple of pounds but in the whole scheme of things I am so over the moon that I have lost loads and can't expect to lose half a stone every week otherwise there would be nothing left of me (although that would take a long time for me to waste away!!!)

Justwhen - I hope the op wasn't too serious. If you are recoveering from op don't get too stressed about diet until you are better.

annmar & livvylouis & hinnypet - brilliant on the weight loss.

Doing fine here. Got no children for a couple of hours this afternoon and no work either and normally in this kind situation I would hit for the biscuit box as a treat but this afternoon I am going to have just a few raspberries as a treat!

thereistheball · 03/02/2010 19:04

Hi - I didn't cut and paste myself in either.

OK day today. Found 99% cocoa solids chocolate in the supermarket so bought some and tried a (wafer-thin, centimetre squared size) piece. There is no sugar in it at all. It tasted savoury and bitter but once I'd swallowed it the chocolate after-taste lingered for ages. I am thinking of making hot chocolate with it, some soya milk, cream, and splenda at the weekend, or maybe a chocolate mousse.

I also had a caffeinated coffee this afternoon, which is very rare for me. Am fully expecting to have to counteract it with vodka and soda later.

Foodwise I've been good and I've noticed my need to snack wearing off as I get used to not eating carbs. Need to drink more water and do some exercise - am going to try one of Davina's DVDs tomorrow.

thereistheball - that chocolate sounds lovely. You sound as if you are doing so well.

thereistheball · 03/02/2010 20:06

Thanks! Before you all rush out, I hasten to add that the chocolate is not exactly lovely - it's very intense and not remotely related to anything we might have bought in a bar at the newsagents. But I've found that low-carbing means I taste the sweetness in everything, so I imagine I appreciate the range of its flavours more now than iI would have done a few weeks ago after a pizza. Still, for connoisseurs only IMO.

mummymels · 03/02/2010 20:49

That makes sense thereistheball. I suppose it also means that you only need the tiniest bit as well to get the flavour but as you said in your previous post you can mix it with other things to dillute the taste too so its not so intense.

HinnyPet · 03/02/2010 21:05

You're right about tasting sweetness in things, I'm not having sugar or sweetner in anything now, it's really weird how that's come about!

Anybody know what kind of fruit I can have on a low-carbing? I am really starting to crave banana, apple, orange and also peas and carrots!

mummymels · 03/02/2010 21:15

HinnyPet - as far as I'm aware you can only have berries when low carbing. Well that is the case with Go Lower and I can only assume it is the same with others but maybe I am wrong. I don't think you can have peas and carrots either but again I may be wrong.

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/02/2010 21:36

You can have rhubarb, which is very low carb, as long as you sweeten it with Splenda not sugar!

Or strawberries, blueberries or raspberries - but you do need to go easy as the carbs add up quite quickly.

Peas and carrots are also quite carby - small quantities of one or the other would be fine, I suppose, but not both together.

OP posts:
mummymels · 03/02/2010 21:41

With regards to berries on Go Lower you are allowed 100g (or one handful) a day and no other fruit so I was just guessing from that. I shall have to ask about the rhubarb too.

Morning all

I had a lovely time last night and haven't put on any weight this morning which is a shock for the amount I ate and drank

Hope you all have a good day.

thereistheball · 04/02/2010 14:31

Supersal - Neris and India say yes to butternut squash, but only once a week. They also say no to all fruit in Phase 1 (which you stay on til you're between 7-14 lbs away from goal).

I think celeriac gives me wind too.

Also, just a thought but having the chocolate as a snack is probably the worst way to eat it, as there is nothing else in your stomach to temper the affect it will have on your blood sugar. When I had diabetes (while pregnant) I was told I could eat the odd square of dark chocolate but only immediately after a meal in which I'd otherwise been very good. Your dinner would be perfect. What about a handful of nuts, or some slices of salami? (I love 85% chocolate - but I'm not in a hurry to buy a big bar of it!)

thereistheball · 04/02/2010 14:32

If my adding up is correct we have shed, almost exactly, an unbelievable 200lb between us so far. Well done us.

We're all doing so well Really pleased this week as have been pretty good at sticking to the right food choices, and cutting down on the snacking (not cutting it out altogether, but Im' getting there!).

Had a sneaky peek at the scales and am down 3lbs this week so far - just one pound off a proper stone, so am really going to try and get there by Monday...(fingers crossed)

Why is when you are on a diet all you can think about is food? All other times I can go all day without "thinking" about what I'd love to eat. I'm not even past 1 week yet.
